A New Kind of combat

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:12 pm

Hi all guys.In all these years of my life i never seen a game wich has a combat system wich could be called "combat system".Dark Messiah is the only one wich make me fight real fights, against creatures and humans. Not against a stupid AI wich could only say "You n'wAH!" So i ideated my kind of combat,i'll try to explicate now:
All the fight begin with a simple attack (a kick,a sword hit,any kind).Your enemy could do a movement to avoid your hit,but he can block your weapon too by pressing the right button in the right time.
If the enemy AVOID your attack he could do a counter attack, you can try to avoid it too,but it would be harder to do,because you're in the worng position. So you'll need skill and mind.
But if the enemy block your weapon? now you can try to hit him with a punch,or a kick,if you have a hidden knife you could use it to treat your enemy, wich won't die at the first hit.He can't avoid your attack, but if he has a very very high level of skill in counter-attacks he could just pick your weapon, get a step away from you,and finish you with all 2 blades.Funny no?
But if he hasn't got good position to kill you? you're unarmed,he has 2 blades, what do you do? now the fight becomes more violent, because your blade skill is useless, now you need to recover yor blade and kill the enemy! so you attack with a punch or similar and if he get back to avoid the hit you could try to hit him in the chest,or on the legs,to make he: fall on the ground, stop breathing for a while etc. if he falls on the ground, you could recover your weapon,or you can finish him with your own hands.Decide what to do,but rember wich ha can alwys do a counter attack to hit you! the fight will become harder for the 2 fighters, and the skill of the player will win!
whjat do u think? sorry for my bad english,i'm italian!

Well, Oblivion kinda already has that. You can dissarm, block, and avoid opponents attacks. And as for the hidden weapon or special move? That could come in as the finishing moves that have been mentioned as being implemented in Skyrim.

Take it easy, he doesn't know english very well.

As for your suggestion OP, everything that you mentioned is either in the game somehow or unnecessary. It's not a "new kind of combat" at all.

Out of curiosity, if combat matters that much to you, why do you even bother playing TES games? Other than that, what you describe isn't terrible but it's nowhere near specific enough, it's just an image in your head not a combat system.

It made perfect sense to me.
And I think its a bit snootish to derate people on their spelling when they are from a non-English country.
Also, he is friendly and simply trying to share an idea he had.
Regardless of the merits of it, there is no need to be rude in our response.

your combat system also doesn't incorporate magic, which is pretty big

I played dark messiah and indeed the combat system was much more involved, and your idea is nice although it might just be too hard to implement in a vast game like Skyrim which has many enemy types other than humanoid.

BUT for me, the more complex and involving the combat is the better, so if they can do it I would love to see it, and frankly I do hope we get the "kick" or "punch" button this time :), counter attacks are also a great idea.

magic and stealth should have separate styles off course but maybe the 'touch type magics could play a role in all the styles!

its up to Beth to make such things now, I imagine the system is all finished now.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk but I'm right, not only were there grammatical errs but also a few typing rules were defied, as in the space after the commas and periods.

I didn't notice he stated he was Italian in his post, so i do apologize, if i did indeed offend.

We'll see this week.

Your style seems too... turn-based.

I'm 13 too, but what does that have to do with anything? Anyway, i have nothing against your combat system (except that its too assassin's creed to be elder scrolls), just your English.

I'm a grammar Nazi, so please excuse me....

skill would always be important,a player with higher skill will win,but turn based fights are skill-dependent for me. And i was talking about PLAYER skill, how good do you are in combat.
