New Manhattan Reborn Sign Up

Post » Sun Jul 17, 2011 1:11 pm

After mulling this over for a while, I decided to re-make New Manhattan. Due to my new found experience, I know what works, and what doesn't, I and will try to minimize the failures and maximize what does work.

Former members may reapply, but this RP is set several years before the original New Manhattan, so you may use your same character, but feel free to make a new one. If you would like to use your same character, feel free to change as much as you want. I have also changed several locations around.

Introduction: The year is 2277, two hundred years after the war. Its been 15 years since New Manhattan was created, and the city is thriving under lax rules and tight security. Under that facade however, is a high crime rate and tension that threatens to tear the city apart. Several high level factions have their eyes on the city and a huge conflict is about to unfold....

New Manhattan: New Manhattan is a thriving city of around 2000 people located in what used to be Central Park. The city is a 100% post war creation. Remnants of the city's former slave camp status are everywhere, but slowly, they are being built over by high level craftsmanship and glitzy buildings.

1. Cap Town: Cap Town is the red light and casino district of New Manhattan. Several large casinos are located here, and many more are under construction.

2. Central Square: Central Square is where the high towers that house the rich are located. Much of the commerce is located here as well, and as a result, this district sees the most foot traffic.

3. Reuters Way: Reuters Way is where the main entrance to the city is located. Much of the Industry is located here. The crime rate here is through the roof.

4. Balsley: Balsley is the slum of New Manhattan. The crime rate here is very high, and people due every day here from starvation and hunger. Expect to get mugged here.

5. Outer New Manhattan: Many have decided not to live inside the city but rather outside. Mostly located right outside of the western walls, farms, inns, and organized crime all make their homes there.

6. Harbor Town: Located outside of the Western Wall, the harbor houses the boats that take people to and from Manhattan. In order to more easily protect the city, the leaders blew up the bridges and instituted the ferry system.

OUTSIDE NEW MANHATTAN

1. Liberty Lost: After being forced out of their old slaver camp at Central Park, the slavers simply moved to the Island where the Statue of Liberty is located and took it over. The slavers run a huge operation here, and have outposts up and down the Eastern Seaboard, picking up slaves and bringing them to the Island. They want New Manhattan back under their control.

2. Mill Creek: Mill Creek is a semi large independent town located in the old town of Secaucus. Many people who want to enter New Manhattan pass through the town, filling the pockets of businessmen and criminals alike.

3. Mars Meadow: The institute also has their eyes on the city, so they sent 100 men and androids into the area. Those 100 created the town of Mars Meadow. Its looks like any old town, but under the facade, the institute is planning an attack.

4. Rabbithill: A small town located far to the west of New Manhattan on the ruins of Montclair Golf Club. Most of the people who live there make their living hunting and skinning animals.

5. Empire Radio: A small radio station located outside of Mill Creek, Fred Crosby entertains the Empire Wasteland with his smooth voice and great taste in music.

(MORE LOCATIONS WILL BE ADDED AS THE RP GOES ON)

Example (This is my character. Some will recognize the name, but I retconned him heavily.)

1. Name: Alexander Scalatti.
2. six: Male.
3. Age: 24.
4. Occupation: Mafia Officer.
5. Weapons: 10MM SMG and a 10MM pistol.
6. Residence: Medium Sized apartment in Cap Town.
7. Gear: Stimpacks, cigarettes, always carries a bottle of beer on him.
8. Appearance: http://madgearsolid.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/PhelpsFace2.png always wears a suit and a fedora except when he is sleeping.
9. Personality: Alex's temper is famous among his mafia. He is very quick to anger, and it does not subside easily. He is loyal if you are loyal to him, but he holds grudges for a long time and never forgets wrongs done to him. If you piss him off, watch out.

10. Backstory: Alexander Scalatti was born in Vault 110, which was located under Central Park. When he 14, his life shattered when super mutants found their way in and massacred almost everybody but him and one of his best friends Ann. Shortly after, he and Ann were captured by slavers and taken to Central Slavery, which was built on Central Park. After living there for only two days, a mutant, who Alex is still looking for to this day, broke the slaves out, who then overpowered their masters. They voted Larry Carter to be the mayor of the town.

In the years that followed, Alex was destitute, too young for any work. Alex managed to scraqe enough cash for a poor tenement in Balsley, working to provide for both himself and Ann. When Alex turned 20 however, everything changed. He was recruited into the mafia, and after preforming well, became an officer. Soon, Alex became fairly rich. He married Ann, and is now a happy man, but that could change at any time.

Rules:

1. NO UBERING! This rule is crucial. My rules follow hardcoe mode, so stimpacks do not heal in a second, but heal over time. You must eat, and sleep to survive. In addition, keep your character within human capababilities. No getting shot 30 times and still living.

In addition, people are allowed to head their own factions, but the faction must not be extremely large or uber in nature.

2. No flaming/trolling is allowed.

3. No real world political talk.

4. There is no set post limit, but we won't wait forever for you to post. IF you don't post in a while, your character will become an NPC, only becoming playable when you come back.

The RP will begin when there are enough people.

Seems solid enough. I'm deciding to try my hand at RPing, so I offer a word of caution. I'm new at this.

1. Name: Vox Populi
2. six: Unknown
3. Age: Unknown
4. Occupation : None
5. Weapons: None

6. Residence: Liberty Lost
7. Gear: None
8. Appearance: Unknown
9. Personality: Not much is known about Vox Populi, except that they have never been encountered by human eyes. Vox Populi is said to be a Wasteland legend. More will be discovered in the story.
10. Background: Vox Populi has never been encountered by human eyes and is only heard through the slaver radio station emanating from Liberty Lost. Vox Populi is simply known as a radio personality and never truly seen. The residents of Liberty Lost are aware of Vox Populi's presence, but have been unable to find his or her source. Vox Populi however, claims to speak for the people, through the people. Vox's voice is utilized by the residents of Liberty Lost to lure people to the island to be enslaved. Vox speaks freely but appears to favor slavery despite his or her claims of speaking for the people. Little is known about Vox, more is to be discovered later on.

Good enough? x3

Actually, you can be whoever you want to be, even a ghoul or a super mutant, cop, businessman, I don't care. I set up the main plot and we go running with it.

I can imagine a very heated conflict between the two mobs :D In short, yes, I don't care. As long as its not too outlandish, I'm fine with it.

I have a vague idea for a New Vegas Strip-esque place. With a hotel (not like last time) for the rich to visit while there or live in for a one time fee of 25,000 caps. but will this conflict with the idea of Cap Town? the idea is it'll use one of those New York roads with two lanes in each direction so it'll be Stripish. Instead of an expansion like Arcadia, I'm thinking of it as a little enclave of it's own, small but powerful in terms of local pull. I'd like to know so I can rework this into the story as best I can.

Yep, that's what I was going for. :3 Vox was originally going to be a character in my story 'The Sunders' but when I saw this thread I saw it as a chance to give Vox it's own story. I was going to make his story a sideline part in the story, but now I see his/her full potential. I have very big plans for Vox in this story, with the proper permission of course. Vox will literally speak for the people, through the people, that's my intention. :3

Ahh perfect, a chance to test out a new character idea I had the other night.

Name: "Vigil"
six:Believed to be male.
Age:Unknown
Occupation:Investigator
Weapons:Unknown

Residence: Somewhere with access to computers and radios.
Gear:Unknown
Personality: Known to be straight forward, onto business. No one knows how he behaves in person.

Backround:Though it is said that no one has ever met Vigil, this is just one of many rumors that surround the mysterious detective. Vigil uses radios that he has somehow rigged to speak to people he approaches. He is widely known for investigating situations all around New Manhattan, taking on some of the biggest mysteries there are.

Like another mysterious resident that once lived in Manhattan known as The Programmer, Vigil appears to have great knowledge over the modification of radios and computers. Unlike his predeccesor however, there is no evidence that Vigil has any robots under his control.

If there is a mystery someone seeks help with, Vigil has made it clear to drop off any evidence inside a crack in a giant tree surrounded by three other small ones along with a written letter. No one knows what he takes for payment.

The 'Unknown' gender thing is done because the character sign up sheet is meant to be seen by the eyes of a reader. Like my character Vox, I made a majority of the information Unknown. I have the story in my head, I am just trying to make the information as mysterious as possible. I of course know all of my character's information so far. I just put the unknown status as something a reader would see. It's mainly to make people wonder, where they'd have to read the story of Vox Populi to understand what they don't know.

Basically what Dalek said Mommy. I could of course say that Vigil is a girl if Vigil is one, but isn't it more fun to try and guess what these characters identities may be?Plus, suspense is awesome.

Im intrested, unsure of what we will be doing but hey all i know is the last one was a success

1. Name: Kade

2. six: Female

3. Age: Believed to be between 24- 28

4. Occupation: Assassin

5. Weapons: Suppressed Sig Sauer P226, Combat knife, Throwing Knives, C4 (when needed)

6. Residence: She has one, but only she knows where it is

7. Gear: Kade wears various things for what ever needs doing, but in general wears a fairly lightweight black leather jacket, dark blue jeans, some sturdy yet stylish leather boots and fingerless leather gloves. Any other gear that she needs she either has where she lives or gets hold of it somehow. failing that, improvisation.

8. Appearance: http://www.freewebs.com/extrasnuffy/KADE%201.jpg but with diffrent clothing and without the jewlery

9. Personality: Kade see's killing as an art, after all that is her buisness. As much as a cold and ruthless killer as she is, she always gets background information on her target, if she dosn't deem the reason you want somone dead good enough then she won't take the contract. Kade is fairly witty and sarcastic, but also blunt and straght to the point.

10. Background: Not much is known about Kade, no one knows where she came from, she has no second name making it harder to trace. Kade watches her back on everything. Very few people in new manhattan, probably no more than five people know who she is and what she looks like due to this she probably has no more than two friends. To everyone else she is just a normal girl on the street. She has fufilled contracts for various organizations around new manhattan, specifically the mafia. She is good at what she does, she has never yet (to anyone's knowledge) failed a contract, if she thinks a contract can't be completed or the target does not deserve death she won't take the contract. Her fee is a modest one, worked out on the diffculty if the contract.

To contact her all you have to do is go to a bar called "The Place", then leave a note with the bartender saying who you are. Kade will find you to arrange the contract, you won't see her, but she'll be there.

Cap-Town is also a seedy red light district. As long as the casino's are somewhat post war looking and full of, erm, red light activities deep in the casino, I don't mind. Not all the casinos need the red light activities. but some do.

Name: Max Gordy
six: Male
Age: 19 1/2
Occupation: Raider
Weapons: Sawed-off shotgun, Hatchet, m1911
Residence: Small shack in the woods that neighbor Reuters way.
Gear: Gun powder, tools for repairing items, stolen caps and cap pouch
Appearance: Dirty skin, torn leather jacket and sweatshirt. Black khakis and sunglasses, with a big scratch on one of the panels.
Personality: Angry at the world around him.
Bio: Max was born and raised in Mill Creek. In his small cottage, he lived with his abusive parents until at age 12 where h could take it no longer. Pretty good, I would like to flesh out the personality, is he loyal? Always angry? Like that, we need to know his reactions etc. The second thing, move the shack farther away from the gate because the guards would kill you, maybe move it to Outer New Manhattan. Flesh out the personality a Bit more and the location and your accepted.

Ahh perfect, a chance to test out a new character idea I had the other night.

1. Name:Karis Finch
2. six: Male
3. Age: 25
4. Occupation (If none, say none): Slaver
5. Weapons: M16 Assault Rifle, M9 Pistol, switchblade in left boot.
6. Residence (If none, say none): Liberty Lost
7. Gear: Black leather vest, padded legs, ball cap, several stimpaks, ammo magazines, and two days of food rations are usually found on Karis.
8. Appearance (May use a picture):http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRNEOWagp-6Qy822sWrXMsmgOaCTXLdq0zfuZcA8XAMN6ooWOZo0Q
9. Personality: Cunning, evil, and deceitful, Karis is no man to mess around with. Has an arrogant attitude due to his "good looks", but secretly is self conscious about himself. Not very good at talking in front of a large group of people, so he prefers talking to smaller slave raid groups.
10. Background (Write something here, the more detail the better):
Karis was born in to slavery. The slaves forced him to work, and he hated them for it. After 18 years of hard work, Karis decided his best bet was to try and join the slavers. When the slavers heard of this, a great debate began about whether to let him join or not. After another year of arguments, Karis was finally allowed to be one of the slavers.

Although he was one of them now, the slavers still watched him, hoping the man wouldn't make a move to escape. He didn't. In Karis's six years as a slaver he has learned many things, and deceit is one of them. Some of the slavers looked up to him for his skills in words, but others despised him for being a former slave.

Karis, now 25, is operating undercover with several other slavers in Cap Town, hoping to learn more information about the city of Manhattan.

Sorry for the short CS. I hope it's okay if I own my own casino.

Name: Al Luciano

six: Male

Age: 37

Faction: The Cleavers

Occupation: Casino owner and head of the Cleavers

Weapons: Sawed-off shotgun, assault rifle and a .357 magnum.

Residence: His casino, Cazzo in the Cap-town section of New Manhattan

Gear: He normally wears a pre-war white suit and a fedora. If he takes on a job outside his casino he wears a bounty hunter duster and a red beret.

Appearance: 5'8, slightly chubby but not unfit, slicked back short dark hair, clean shaven face. Somewhat like http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/images/os/esq-boardwalk-empire-al-capone-hat-112210-xlg.jpg

Personality: Cold and clever, patient and manipulative. Al puts business over friendship, earning caps over doing the right thing. He will ally himself with the strong and take out the weak. He is treacherous, known to form deals with people and betray them once he has what he needs. He is no fool, and will not let emotions control his decisions. Only whatever benefits his own needs.

Background: Al was once an infamous slaver and raider in the Wasteland. Over his years before he arrived in New Manhattan, he accumulated many caps and gained the reputation of doing any job so long as the money was right. He formed his own raider tribe in his travels. Along with taking any job, Al also began his own slaving business.

Eventually he left the Wasteland and became a resident of New Manhattan. He now owns a casino, the Cazzo, known for prosttutes and chems, in the Cap. Al uses contacts he made before arriving in the city to import potent chems and extremely strong alcohol.

Al founded The Cleavers before he arrived in New Manhattan. "The Cleavers" was a nickname given to the raider gang in the Wastes, due to their fondness of using cleavers to torture captives. Al liked the name, and so it stuck. There is one rule in The Cleavers, and it is to remain completely loyal to the family. Everything else is permitted, so long as it doesn't incriminate any other Family members.

Al based it on pre-war crime families. He has under-bosses controlling different sections of Cazzo, from the prosttutes to the gambling floor to the chem dealers.

I'm liking it, but I would think that the slavers would have sold you off. I would like you to elaborate more about it in the RP, but your accepted :)

Sorry for the short CS. I hope it's okay if I own my own casino.

Name: Al Luciano

six: Male

Age: 37

Occupation: Casino owner

Weapons: Sawed-off shotgun, assault rifle and a .357 magnum.

Residence: His casino, Cazzo.

Many of the raiders in his old gang took up positions as thugs at the Cazzo, but as of now Al is still hiring.

As long as the casino is smallish, I don't mind. About the slaver business, I really don't mind, but Liberty Lost will hate you for it. IF you want conflicts with Liberty Lost, I don't mind.
