New Manhattan RP Thread 4

Post » Wed Feb 23, 2011 11:39 pm

OOC: Holy, that was one of the most beautiful posts I've seen throughout the RP. Bravo!

Adam’s eyes widened as Alex walked through the door. He was expecting some scraggly wastelander, not a chic, suave looking gentleman. The suit made him especially jealous.

Scalatti took no time getting down to business, something which further impressed the Colonel. What the Enclave did today would lay the foundation for the nation’s future; there was no time to tarry.

The mention of the Gauss Project alarmed Adams. The GP were a ruthless organisation; they cared little for the well-being of their country, only for their own technological prowess. He hated the very thought of them. But although he refused to say it, the Colonel knew they were powerful, and he understood it would not be a simple matter of just gunning them down. Dammit!

Alex sounded anxious, and it looked like he was shaking a little. He knew what they were capable of, but thankfully, knew they had to be stopped. New Manhattan would be doomed otherwise.

Adams jumped into the conversation before Sutler had a chance to reply.

“The way you speak of these Gauss monkeys… it’s like you know them. Have you encountered them before? What are they like?” Adams asked, almost tumbling over his words. He slowed down. “Alex, listen to me, you have the chance to be a hero; you can save and help rebuild the United States of America. But you’ve gotta tell us everything you know, or… or there will not be a USA; this city, it’ll be ruined – plunged into darkness.” Adams was truly speaking from the heart; he couldn’t, and wouldn’t, begin to imagine New Manhattan under a technological super power other than the Enclave.

“Oh, and please, do excuse my manners. The name’s Adams – Colonel Jack Adams. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” Adams tone was warm, but this time, false. He cared for America; not Alex.

Adams extended a meaty hand to Alex. Just shake it so we can get this [censored] done.

Alexander Scalatti

An Enclave soldier reached out his hand. Alex cautiously shook his hand.

Alex laughed. "Do I know the GP? Of course I do. Those [censored]s threatened my wife with death, they have killed one of my best friends, basicly, they are [censored] tyrants. They are very heavily armed, almost better than you Enclave. They care nothing but about themselves. They forced me to tell them about the GECK in Vault 109, and they are probably there."

Alex snubbed his cigarette. "My names Alexander Scalatti, just call me Alex."

William

"Sir, we need to hurry up. Alex Scalatti could be here any moment."
William whipped around, his face showing worry. "Use the Reaper again..."
The scientists and engineers went back inside and planted the powerful bomb inside. In seconds, the bomb exploded, again leaving only pieces of rock and a bit of steel on the ground, the Vault 109 door virtually unscathed other than chips and pieces of painting and steel ripped off.
"Damn it!"
William looked on the horizon. "Fortify this location, but don't shoot unless shot at!"

He sighed, trying to comprehend what the Enclave will be bringing to a firefight. William turned to an engineer. "Upload all Robco information about the Enclave inside my PDA." William handed the engineer his PDA and the man got to work. In a couple minutes, he handed the PDA back."

When he looked inside, it was virtually nothing. Only propaganda, spy reports, plain [censored]. William sighed. "It's time for the Enclave to either join us or die by my hands."

Sutler watched Adams fumble over his own words, This guy can spout more [censored] than Eden.; Sutler almost laughed out loud but remained serious and business-like.

“Oh, and please, do excuse my manners. The name’s Adams – Colonel Jack Adams. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

Smooth Adams, smooth.

Sutler finally interjected.

"As I was about to say Mr Scalatti, all of the preparations for the capture of Vault 109 are already underway.

He turned to Adams.

"Our technicians intercepted secure transmissions, it took a fair few hours but we managed to decipher their transmissions, I have Sigma and Autumn squad standing-by for immediate deployment as well as a team of techie's who will assess the Vault's structural integrity and main systems as well as search for salvagable parts and equipment. All are standing-by for my command, I shall remain here in the command room and I'm sure you will serve as the commanding offircer on this mission won't you Colonel."

He turned to Alex.

"I can assure you Alex, thath dispite your past troubles with the Enclave, we are the, from your perspective, the lesser of two evis." Sutler stiffled an evil grin, whatever these Gauss people wanted Sutler was sure it wasn't the eradication of everyelse on Earth.

OOC: I might be missing some here, Dark, but how can your men just magically know we're approaching (which we aren't, by the way :P ). Not a big deal, and don't worry about editing your post, but avoid mind-reading in the future -- some might get a little touchy about the ubering. :goodjob:

I'm thinking of letting Sutler respond before replying to your post, Alex, if that's all right.

"Indeed Mr Scalatti, even between enemies there must be some honour, we have made that mistake often enough."

He turned to Adams.

"Do you have anything to interject Colonel?"

OOC: The idea is that the Gauss Project is this massive Robco installed facility with Pre-War tech so radar systems would exist. But I changed it because you guys weren't coming. FAIL on my part. So yeah...I'm going to be out of commission for a while until you guys arrive.

Adams in fact was about to ask Sutler about a temporary alliance with the Gauss Project, but he already knew the answer. Even if it were for the greater good, the president would never work with an enemy.

“I… no, Mr. President. I’m ready to undertake this glorious task. All I ask is you inform both squads to assemble in the Vertibird Hanger – I’ll debrief them there.” Adams almost left before he remembered one vital thing. “Oh, and please, keep your radio nearby at all times. I hate to give you orders, Mr. President, but if you’re not alert today, the Enclave and this great nation are doomed. Do not worry about me; I will settle for no more than victory, and my squad? Well, you know what they think about failure.”

Adams stood up straight, and motioned for Alex to follow. “Come, Scallati, our business in this place is done. It’s time to fight. What we do today will go down in history, and you, you’ll have your chance for vengeance – and we all know what a sweet a feeling that is, do we not?” he said, chuckling slightly.

He turned to Sutler. “Destiny awaits. God bless the Enclave.” Adams gave a strong salute. Despite his personal feelings towards the president, he had faith in him, and knew together, the Enclave would never fail.

OOC: Sorry if you wanted to get out the office now, Alex, but it seemed only fair to give you the chance to say whatever you needed before we left for good.

Alexander Scalatti

Adams motioned Alex to come along. Alex shook the president's hand before he left. "Thanks for everything sir. But please, use the GECK for the good of America."

Alex stood up, took off his fedora, wiped his forehead, and put it back on. He followed Adams to the Vertibird hanger.

"Of course Mr Scalatti, the good of America is our business."

He stood up returned Adams salute.

"Be seeing you, Colonel, Mr Scalatti."

Hand behind his back and illuminated by the status board behind him, he took a drag of his cigarette and watched Adams and Alex leave his office.

Evander Jamison

Evander stepped through the bunker doors. In it he noticed a multitude of men, some fully armored, some barely wearing clothes, some on the floor asleep, old red-stained bondages around their waists and their limbs. It was as sad as it was humbling to see what the cities last hope for true freedom was reduced to. No one knew what they did when they weren't above ground, well this was it. They wastes their days regrouping those who were physically harmed, but everyone was under the same mental damage. Their were fighting against high odds, and they were losing.

Once they noticed Evander though, some of them perked up at the sight of their old comrade. Many walked up to him and greeted him with a warm hug and shake. He nodded and smiled at everyone, taking care to avoid stepping on those injured who didn't have the energy to remove themselves from the middle of the floor. It pained his hear to see the Brotherhood in svck disarray. The bunker area wrapped around the back, which then led to some stairs and a door. Evander was familiar with the layout, and knew the barracks was just down the stairs, and in the door in front of him the commanders would meet and plan their next defense. He pressed the intercom button.

"Is Issac there?"

They apparently didn't need his name because after a short silence the door slid down revealing Issac and another old friend of theirs, Maxwell. Neither of them were armored, and both looked weary. Evander was beginning to doubt their possible enthusiasm to help him. They both managed a weak smiled as they greeted Evander. If Evander remembered correctly, they were the only two Paladins in the immediate section. Other bunkers were located about the area, and each bunker was commissioned two leaders.

"What is it you request of us, Evander?" Maxwell spoke up. "I still owe you for Fort Hammond."

"Don't think for a second I ain't forget." Evander replied. It was good to be with his old friends. Remembering the seriousness of the issue though, his smiled was erased as he cleared his throat.

"The Enclave are back." Evander noticed the sharp intake from both of them, Issac buried his head in his hands. "And they're making moves. I'm not sure what they're doing now but they blew up CAPone casino, just above us." He paused, wondering how to put the next part.

"I know the person who runs that casino. The Enclave was about to leave as I approached, but their likely coming back for him. We have to telegraph where their next move will be. The one thing we know they have always been after is the G.E.C.K. Chances are, their already at whatever vault contains it. Their next step though, is vault 110. Nobody knows what's in there."

Evander knew they knew of Vault 110, they had been posted in New Manhattan for over a year, but they weren't ready for what came next.

"We need to be there. And before them. There's a chance that they already are at 110, which means we should take 109, but I'd feel more comfortable heading to the place that hasn't been opened. That way, if we're wrong, we can at least hold out until they head for it."

At this both men were quiet, neither sure of what the next move should be. Evander simply waited.

"Oh, and I'll be coming with you." He said with a smile.

Standing at the only window of the penthouse left permanently unshuttered, Justin stared down at the streets below, the reinforced shatter resistant glass safe from alot of bullet concerns, and the height likely to deter any climbers. He was well dressed, always in a suit, at minimal a dress shirt, pants, and shoes. His life, an extraordinary one in terms of years, he was human, and he was ghoul. His attempt to survive the war suceeded, but in the end, nature and God won, for he survived, humanity in tact, but at a painful cost, he had to daily take specially devised pills, the stasis chamber he secretly bought from the USAF before the war didnt save him, the radiation leaked through just enough to warp his genetic structure, slowly but surely, he would die, his internal organs deteriorating, the pills he concoted only numbed and delayed the pain. He had 50 years left, by his estimates.

Until then, he ran the pre-war hotel once known as 'Tant Mieux' in the old days, now called 'Luxurys Lap' by citizens of new Manhattan, and they rightly called that, for it was the lap of luxury. It was not his before the war, but he renovated the penthouse to be his crows nest over the city. He never left his penthouse, fearing he would be mobbed by a 'barbarian'. But he opened the top half of the hotel, which was the most luxurious, to 'permanent residents', meaning the richest of Wastelanders. The lower two floors were the shops and the 'guest rooms', people paying 100 caps a night to stay. You'd be surprised what people in an age of war would pay for comfort, ease, and luxury. In the background, gentle classical music and 'elevator music'. The tower, Justins small little empire, was well known, and well liked, even if you couldnt afford a room, the only admission fee for a visitor was to hand over every weapon to the guards at the gates, built with the pre-war luxury gates, and newer, more recently welded on thick steel walling onto the front gates. It was not only a well known money bags location, it was also one of the safest, friendliest trading posts outside of the New Manhattan region. His empire never conflicted with New Manhattan, they both had a relationship that benefites them both.

(I'm trying to be careful because I want to get my part into the story without interferieng with the main plot.)

OOC: Welcome to the RP, Colonel! That was a great first post. :D

Adams observed the men standing in front of him – his team. There was, of course, Autumn Squad – his own personal platoon – and Squad Simga. Tagging along were two scientists and a technician, whose legs shook under the intense weight of their equipment. Adams smiled a little before addressing all fifteen Enclave personnel.

“Men, today we fight against the dark forces of tyranny. Today, we prevail. Today, we shape history!” The crowd roared. “But before we leave, may I introduce you all to one Alexander Scallati. This good man is the key to our success, the key to America’s revival. Treat him with respect, but more importantly, keep him safe; if he dies, our country falls with him.” Adams leaned in closer to Alex, quietening his voice. “Hey, don’t look so nervous; I’m just saying all that to keep our men fired up,” he said, patting Alex on the back. He turned back to his team.

“All right, let’s move out!” They all piled into the vertibird in a somewhat disorderly fashion. Inside the bird was a claustrophobic’s worst nightmare; it was hard to even breathe. Thankfully for Adams, he had his own personal seat at the front. He ushered Alex to the seat next to him.

“Please, take a seat. I think you’ll actually get some air over here,” he said with a forced grin.

The engines began to hum and the vertibird ascended to the world above. “You’re going to love this, Alex. The Enclave at its greatest, these vertibirds are.” Adams poured some pure water into a glass, and offered it to Scallati.

OOC: Sorry for the slight control, Alex, but otherwise it'd just be a string of one liners before we get to the action. Time wasting, basically. If you want something changed, just say so.

EDIT: Oh, and feel free to control the vertibird and get us to Vault 109. If you could just leave the negotiating (at the start, anyway) between Enclave and GP, that'd be great. :)

Captain Elizabeth Briggs/Sigma Leader

They were riding high above now, on they're way to NYC, the vertibird had 18 Enclave personnel crammed into it, a large amount of they're people, Elizabeth shuddered to think what would happen to the Enclave if they crashed. She felt particularly sorry for the two scientist who didn't have power armour to protect them from all the trooper bumping into them.

Christ this bird is cramped, suprised the damn thing could take off, [censored] me it's hot in here.

She removed removed her Hellfire Helmet and mopped at her sweating brow with her favourite handkerchief, an old rag once worn by a wasteland radio host called Three-Dog. With all the power jostling about in here it was actually impossible to move, she looked around for the Captain Butler finally spotting the two silver bars on the briastplate of a trooper close-by.

"Hey Butler, see the Colonel has a new best friend, even gave him a spare officers seat at the front; jealous much?" She smiled to try and convey that this wasn't an insult.

OOC: I dont mind a just a bit of control :D

Alexander Scalatti

Alex entered the vertibird and put on his seat-belt. Everything rests on me. Only Alex knew the passcode to enter the vault. I don't want the GECK to fall into the wrong hands. The GECK itself could start a small farming community, then the seeds could spread all over the Empire Wasteland

The vertibird began to fly. This feels good. Alex took out a cigarette and began to smoke yet again. "I hope my smoking doesn't bother anyone..in fact, if anyone wants a free cigarette, just ask."

Justin sat at his desk, a fine carved mohagany desk, stationed at the end of a red carpet leading from the entrance of the room to his desk. It was not papers he was watching, but rather, the monolithic wall of televisions on to the right of his desk. 50 large television screens, 10 devoted to his hotel, 30 to throughout key locations in the city and 6 permanently at 'connection lost' some damaged before the war, others destroyed by salvagers for tech, the last 4 were stationed in the basemant of his hotel, which housed his prized possession, guarded by 30 sentry bots and 10 roof mounted Mark II Turrets. Biding his time, he would make his power play. It was nothing sinister, but rather, it was something that would transform his position as 'the hotel overseer' into a key figure into the New Manhattan power structure. So far all was clear on the 14 'home' cameras. On one, he watched from his camera, observing the Statue of Liberty, or, so it was known in his day. As he watched and took various notes, his clock chimed with a light gong sound and he pulled out his bottle of pills, afraid of the pain his not taking them would cause, a pain that could drive any man insane if endured long enough. He quickly swallowed the pills, avoiding the 'fire' that would ignite in his internal organs.

"Now that we have that little problem tucked away for the day, lets see what we have here." He spoke in his suave and well educated voice, heading to the terminal where he'd speak to his 'mouth'. His mouth was a man named Jack, his vocal representation on the ground, watcing over his hotel and reporting all daily income. He observed Jack staring at the Pre-War portait of Justin, sitting in at a rich grey table, wearing a black silk suit with a grey dress shirt and white tie, a look of seriousness on his face, the only reason people knew what Justin looked like. "Mr. Mieux, I'm hear to report todays notes" Mieux was not his real last name, but after the war and after he opened the hotel, he took the name as an attempt to place name and business associations. "Of course my good man, what have you to report, I hope you've found someone to be a reliable human agent to do as I ask?" "Well, no sir, not exactly, we're still looking into that." Justin frowned and spoke into the microphone, well, how about daily profits?" Jack cheered up at this, "Yes sir, we're up 2,531 caps than yesterday." Justins tone was extatic "Excellent! You're dismissed for now, oh, and DO put up that bulletin I dictated to you, I notice it isnt on the wall as I asked." Jack spoke quickly and obediently "Yes sir, I'll get right on it"

After Jack had placed the poster up on the wall. A few people crowded around it, soon they'd spread the word about it, possibly getting Mr. Mieux his human agent that he needed.

"Greetings residents of New Manhattan,

I have dictated this bulletin to my right hand Jack. Per Notice, I wish it to be known, I seek a man or woman capable of preforming various tasks I need done. Said tasks will likely be dangerous at times, and at others, menial. That said, I will not let this person go unrewarded. If you are deemed durable, reliable, intelligent, and fiercly loyal. You will be properly compensated the following luxuries.

1.) 5,000 bottlecaps or equal compensation in material goods, pending personal preferations per contracted job.
2.) 1 Penthouse suite with many high end Pre-War luxuries, bonus a personal balcony for your leisuring pleasure.
3.) Exclusive priveleges to carry your weapon/weapons through the hotel, though holstered unless special circumstances arise.
4.) An exlusive 25% discount to all shop merchants within the "Luxurys Lap" and all properties owned by Mr. Mieux.
5.) Lastly, a 50% discount on any Alchoholic or non alchohlic drink and meal in the Luxurys Lap VIP Lounge. A benefit not currently offered to any VIP card holders.

To apply, speak to Jack, and he will lead you to the portait of me. Best of luck to all Applicants.

Cordially,
Mr. Justin Mieux."

Lyn Grave

The wolves at Lyn's side growled as a man approached. The mirelurk put itself between the approaching man and Lyn.

"If you have peaceful intentions, I ask that you do not fire on these animals. Do not be intimidated, they will only fight back if you start the fight. Now, may I ask who you are and why you have sought me out?"

Lyn felt no need to draw her own weapon, as the three animals could most likely overpower the lone man. Lyn walked closer to the man, with the wolves staying by her side, and the mirelurk staying somewhat in front and to the side of her.

Captain Butler

The vertibird snaked and slalomed through New York’s skyscraqers – the skyline still a beautiful site, despite being in a battered form.

Butler sat, wriggling for space with his arms tight against his sides. His focus was broken by the voice of Captain Elizabeth Briggs.

"Hey Butler, see the Colonel has a new best friend, even gave him a spare officers seat at the front; jealous much?" She smiled to try and convey that this wasn't an insult.

Like the good Colonel, Butler saw Squad Sigma as failure personified; their inability to communicate destroyed the Enclave at Adams Air Force Base – one more mistake like that, and the Enclave would be all but over. Still, Butler couldn’t help but like Briggs. He wasn’t too sure what it was about her, but she was kind and always up for a good laugh – something he could appreciate.

She’s got the right idea. Butler removed his own helmet, which was now drenched with sweat. Revealed was a forty year old African-American. He was battle-hardened, but his soft features made him look half his age.

“[censored], please. Adams is full of [censored]. I ain’t ever seen him smile like that… hell I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile!” Butler said, laughing as he wiped his brow. “You know how it is, Lizzie; beguile ‘em with kindness and charm, and before you know it, they’re in the palm of your hand. I can’t believe that guy’s falling for it – he looks smarter than that.” Butler looked down, noticing Briggs’s grubby headband. “And for [censored] sake clean that damn thing, would you? It’s disgusting!” Butler erupted in a bellyful of laughter, indicative of his playful attitude.

“Oh, man, I’ll never forget the day you got that thing. Yeah, we lost a nice bird, but seeing that guy Three Dog’s face, ha ha, that made it all worth it.” Butler grinned to himself, remembering the DJ’s blood splattering over the wall.

“And dammit! What is this smell? Is that smoke? He must be crazy or something.”

Colonel Jack Adams

Christ, what is wrong with you! Smoking? In here? It’s hard enough to breathe without that, you [censored] degenerate. Adams turned and scrunched up his face in disgust. Out the window he saw what remained of Times Square – once a glittering paradise, all remained new was the steel girders. Not for long.

Adams stood and addressed the Enclave personnel. “All right, team, our destination is in clear sight. Prepare for landing.” He sat back down and turned to Alex. “So, you ready for this? You ready for vengeance?”

OOC: Vault 109 is under Times Square, right?

Mafia Minion

As the member of the New Manhattan Mafia grew closer to the suspicious looking woman he noticed that by her side were creatures which made her seem far more suspicious, even slightly fearsome.

Hold on a sec, that's not a guy that's a... the mans thoughts trailed off, as he continued walking towards her, wondering what exactly she was next to, some sort of creature. Then it hit him; You gotta be kiddin' me! That's a live Mirelurk! he realized, eyes widening. Lowering he gaze he noticed that she was also accompanied by a wolf. Jesus flippin' Christ, this broad's got a death wish! the armed mafiosi thought to himself, reaching for his gun. Before he could pull out his pistol, the Mirelurk stepped forward and the woman opened her mouth to speak.

"If you have peaceful intentions, I ask that you do not fire on these animals. Do not be intimidated, they will only fight back if you start the fight. Now, may I ask who you are and why you have sought me out?" she said, sounding rather calm for a woman surrounded by wild creatures.

The man refrained himself from pulling out his weapon, but remained cautious, for fear of his own life.

"Y-you're not from around here, are you?" the man asked, trying to sound as masculine and brave as possible. "L-listen, you might know what's going around here. It's dangerous for everyone. If there's something you know, or can do to help, we might appreciate it" the mafia minion replied. "Forgive me for not introducing myself. My name is Rico Traponi. I work with the New Manhattan Mafia." the man introduced himself. "And you are?" he asked, relaxing slightly.

You know how it is, Lizzie; beguile ‘em with kindness and charm, and before you know it, they’re in the palm of your hand. I can’t believe that guy’s falling for it – he looks smarter than that.

"Damn right he's full of [censored], I think the President said it best when he said, 'he comes out with more [censored] than Eden, and Eden was condeceding to the ferals topside'. I have to say, I thought that other man was a Vault Dweller, suppose that's why he's a svcker, don't know too much, then again I don't know much about him, he ran a casino in that scumpit Evergreen so he surely can't be that gullible.

"And for [censored] sake clean that damn thing, would you? It’s disgusting! Oh, man, I’ll never forget the day you got that thing. Yeah, we lost a nice bird, but seeing that guy Three Dog’s face, ha ha, that made it all worth it.”

"What was left of it after Sutler was finished with him, as frail as the man is now, he was capable of some serious [censored] brutality back in the day; that stone cold bastard has NO mercy."

“And dammit! What is this smell? Is that smoke? He must be crazy or something.”

"Jesus Christ he is, Adams better stop that fool."

OOC: ramendia, I don't know if I missed it in the last thread or something, but I can't find your character sheet anywhere. Would you mind posting it? As I don't know how to describe your characters appearance in any other way than female.

Also, I like visualizing each post in my head. If I don't know what the characters look like, I can't do that. Actually, I have real actors in my head that play the roles of each character here.
