New Manhattan Thread 5

"Yes Colonel, you have something to report, maybe when you're going to resume active service? Over."

“Mr. President, I’m beginning to get the feeling that you do not trust me. Cannot say I’m sure as to why, especially after you consider all I’ve done recently, but the impression is clear, all the same. Now, I’m giving you the chance to rectify this wrong,” he said, clearing his throat quickly before continuing. “I can assure you, you’re not going to like what you’re about to hear, but this is important, so keep a cool head, would you, please? Mieux has offered me to join his side as his right-hand man. Of course, I’d be showered with wealth and power, but understanding my duty to our country, I shall decline when we hold our next conference tomorrow. It’s important I have your opinions, and advice on how we should proceed from here; our next course of action. I won’t lie, Mr. President, you’ve seen much in your time, and I can only assume you’ve dealt with all kind of people, too… before you inevitably killed them, that is.” Adams laughed and resumed. “I like Mr. Mieux; he’s been kind and hospitable, but there’s something about him, I can’t quite put my finger on it. He seems slippery, always scheming, trying to find the best route to personal power – I, and the Enclave, will not be a pawn in his vanity project.”

Adams took a quick sip of his water. “So, what are your thoughts? Over.”

Sutler was sumb-founded by what he was hearing, he was baffled that Adams hadn't reached the same conclusion.

"Colonel, if what you're telling me is true then Miex has just tried to recruit you for his private army, Mieux has just assumed that you could be bought over, Mieux has just assumed that your loyalty to your government which you have served all your life can be bought; my question is why are you still there and why is Mieux not ash? I have seen a lot and it has happened a few times when I walked the Lonesome Road wasters tried to bribe me from my duty, they offered me [censored]s, money, power, anything, I told them no once and if they persisted I got angry: heads were crushed, people were shot and necks were opened. Personally I am baffled that you think there will even be a meeting tomorrow, the man just acted against the Enclave, trying to corrupt it's leaders to bolster his own strength! If you insist on staying you can tell him thanks for the badge but his T-51bs aren't coming. I am concern you think we can deal with this man after what he has just done, he was trying to buy you over and who knows maybe use you to control the entire Enclave! Colonel I suggest you get your men and leave immediately before this Mieux stops you, he has Sentry Bots and more men than you and is therefore a threat. As for trust we will discuss that when you're home, which should be soon over."

After the Colonel left, Mieux was absently fiddling a cigar in one hand, thinking about how sad he was that Adams declined, he wasn't to upset, he figured Adams put his patriotism before himself, but still, he'd hoped Adams would take his place as ruler of Arcadia when Mieux would pass away in a few years. He got up and stared at the monitors, he managed to get one snuck into a key location of New Manhattan, so he stared at the screen and observed it all, he immediately turned away, scrawling on a small note

"Colonel Adams,

While I am dissappointed in your neglecting of my offer, I have thoroughly enjoyed you company at the hotel, when you leave here, I want you to know you are always invited to stay in the same suite, as my guest. Oh, and this is the same box from which you smoked, take these as my compliments.

In Friendship,
Mieux"

After slipping the box down his delivery slot, he went over to a hologram table and observed the projection of New Manhattan, studying its structural stability, then, his heart struck with disgust, he was inviting one of those New Manhattan residents as an ambassador, and knowing them, it'd likely be some mob goon. He sent down a small memo to his aide saying 'When Adams and his troops leave, I want our guards standing from the exterior doors to the vertibird saluting with their rifles at their side with that old holotape of American Anthems playing, particularly Stars and Stripes Forever, when they leave, I want them feeling like heros on parade, it's the least those boys deserve. So much work, so little recognition'

When Adams was going to leave, he was going to personally see them off, it was rare for him to enjoy company like he had Adams, so he wanted to give him and his men the best send off.

OOC: Erm, how could Mieux know I declined? The italics in my post were Adams's thoughs, and I don't think he's a mind reader. :P Unless you can hear over Sutler and Adams's radio conversation, I guess that makes sense.

OOC: It isnt telepathy, it's just a common sense issue. If you're born into something your whole life IE Adams and the Enclave, you'd likely never turn it down. Not always, but it's a common thing that happens to people born into things.

OOC: Well the meeting was rendered moot by Sutler visiting, I'm not eager to throw you out, I want you to join me remember? But like Enclave said, unless you're seriously considering changing sides, ignoring Sutlers immediate request isnt a good thing if you want to remain an Enclave loyalist

So unless you're considering siding with me, Sutler would likely have you demoted for staying the night. But if you decide to switch sides. Then my dreams of luxury and pre-war glory will be that much closer, if you side with Sutler and the Enclave, then you'll be helping achieve his aims.

“Why, I owe you an apology, Mr. President. I’m so sorry I didn’t throw my life away right there and then; what was I thinking? It would have been a great idea for me to just melt Mieux in his own penthouse suite; I’d thoroughly enjoy being moved down by his soldiers and Securitrons afterwards,” Adams said mockingly. “Get your act together. Your xenophobia holds you, and us, back; you’re frightened by every man, woman and child not one of us – it’s a huge impediment to progress, surely you understand that? After all your experience, I find it hard to simply comprehend why you see Mr. Mieux as some simple wastelander. I said it myself, he’s got a devious look about him, but despite that, he breathes greatness – just look at Arcadia, the settlement which one man built. He controls a small empire, Mr. President; the Enclave could use such a man for such wondrous endeavours, and when our need for him runs out? Well, I’ll leave that to you.” Adams turned to the knocking at the door. “Excuse me for a moment.”

“Come in.” The maid entered with a note and box of cigars. Adams forced a smile and gestured for her to leave.

“Anyway, Mr. Mieux does not seek to destroy the Enclave. Control them, perhaps, but I’m insulted that you think I’d let that happen. How weak do you think I am? I’ve obeyed your orders to my fullest, but I fail to see how his death could help us. If there truly is no feasible course of action to control him, then so be it, do what you wish, but I’d think very carefully before you do anything rash – the Enclave does no need enemies when it is so close to glory.”

“I’m loyal, in fact I’m more than loyal, Mr. President. My heart and soul is in the Enclave, so please, do not ever doubt my allegiance,” he said sternly, almost with a hint of anger in his voice. “I respect your commands, so I’m returning back to base. See you soon. Over.”

Adams took a cigar from the box and began to skim over the small letter as he waited for the President’s reply. He smiled broadly; the Mieux Hotel had been good to him, and it was a pleasure to know he was always welcome, and no matter what Sutler said, he’d fight his very hardest to return if tempted.

EDIT: OOC: Just so you know, Adam, I didn't terminate our conversation there; feel free to continue. thought I needed to make that clear.

"Colonel I never expected you to shoot him I was merely expressing my outrage with wishful thinking, that would have been suicidal and I never suggested you would betray the Enclave, the man just tried to [censored] bribe you, he just tried to turn you against the Enclave and your getting pissy at me! I want you to return immediately and tell me every single word that man said. I don't give a [censored] what kind of empire he has, he just tried to buy your alligence and deprive the Enclave of an insubordinate, glory-seeking but yet still talented and much valued Colonel. How do you expect me to trust and work with a man who, whilst talking to me, was planning of corrupting my organisation. He thinks he knows everything, judging everyone before he even has a chance to meet them, he had me pegged as some sort of inept, corrupt, glory-stealing politician and then after a few sentences apologised for judging me to quickly, over a few radio transmittions no less!

I am suggesting that all ties with this man are severed, he is plotting to sieze our Enclave, our people and use them to expend his [censored] business, I don't want to conduct business with someone whom I have to watch as much as my foes! Return to base immediately and we shall discuss everything. Over and out."

In his usual flash of dramatics, Mieuxs portrait flickered across Sutlers main computer monitor, a somewhat condescending tone echoing in the room "Sever all ties because I wanted such a valuable asset as Adams? Come now Mr. President, you have to admit, you'd be more concerned had I NOT tried to recruit him. I never wanted him as a spy, nor had I wanted to 'use' the Enclave." "If I had, I'd go about in far more subtle ways. I merely wanted Adams as my right hand, but I suppose that wouldn't help tensions either." His calm voice not making any of these words any easier on the ears. "I'm surprised you can underestimate me as some young come up with ambitions of placing a knife in your back. I have to admit, I find your sudden anger towards me very tribal and barbaric like the wastelanders outside my walls. I mean, even Adams will tell you, I asked to hire him, not have him play turn coat to your organization. Perhaps there is some way I can patch up this little hick up?" Mieux, for the first time in 200 years, had true worry in his voice. "Mr. President, I advise you to think on this. Both our organizations have accomplished much, but the Enclave is rotting from the inside out and has taken quite a slugging from savages in the past 40+ years. The Enclave cannot survive more than a few decades, and when they fade? They will become nothing more than a boogie man, further villified by those 'white knights' in old D.C., and you need me. What about me? I am a man with a limited empire, alot of high end tech, with next to no one who wants to learn to operate it if it is not a gun, let's face it, like it or not Mr. Sutler, our organizations are dinosaurs that have cheated the atomic fire that destroyed our world. to stubborn to let ourselved go extinct, if we spend our time stroking our egos and not our survival, we'll fade into the wind like the souls of our forefathers, if we work together, we can truly educate these savages. Did I ask for Adams behind your back? Certianly, because I knew you'd behave this way had I asked, yet, my openness about what I told him should show there was no ill will behind it. Is there any way I can correct this problem I've caused?"

Sutler light a cigarette and took a long drag.

"Save your pretty speeches of unity Mieux, second-in-command of your organisation and second-in-command of the Enclave are mutually exclusive careers, Adams is a Colonel in the United States Army and my Secretary of Defense, he will never be these and your Vice-President, the Captain of your Guard or whatever. I will not fall for your tricks, less than half an hour after I signed a deal with you, you went to my second-in-command and tried to make him join your organisation, you also spy on my communications and make yourself welcome in my home, these are not things I see in a potential partner, these are things I see in a devious, would-be puppet master. The Enclave is not 'rotting from within', once again you seem to mistake me for some fool and Adams as some under appreciated hero, their is a reason Adams pisses me off, he knows it and I will never let him forget what he did those days, ever. Don't assume you know Adams and never assume you know or can play me Mieux because it won't [censored] wash. I have a plan to save the Enclave, it involves Adams blowing [censored] up and doing something else, it do not involve setting up a school to teach wastelanders, who have no reason to trust the Enclave, to use your machines and hack into our systems; something you won't be able to do much longer once we get some of our tech running. I don't have an ego Mieux, it died with my family and most of the people I knew, yes I had a family, shocked someone as evil as me can have feelings? You went behind my back to usurp my command of this organisation which is both deserved and earned, Adams in neither a supurned hero being beaten down by a pompous ass and I am niether a pompous ass or a fool. I will discuss every word you said to Adams and then I will contact you again with a joint descision from the United States Cabinet, do not try and contact me in the mean time Mieux."

Sutler resisted the urge to shoot the screen and instead settled for turning it off.

Mieux, a little annoyed, but in the end, he shrugged. "Huh, I don't need them, I have my own ways. Now I know why those fools lost Navarro. Their terrible at their job." Shrugging it off, he called his top ranking men into his office. "Gentlemen, as it stands, Arcadia is small. only nine city blocks, sadly, New Manhattan has as of yet refused to be merged into the power structure, but, until their ambassador comes in. 90% of our men to viciously continue swallowing up blocks of the old city, kill anything hostile, and increase our expansion. I know our plans called for slow progress, but the calculus of power demands we move up our time scale. I want 10 blocks of city merged into the city by the end of the week." The Chief of Security looked nervously at Mieux, "Uh, Mr. Mieux, can that even be done? We dont have much equipment." Justin, stroking a small moustache steadily growing, "Yes, you're right, but we're going to get some Power Armor, sadly, not T-51bs from the Enclave, they decided to throw a hissy fit, no, instead, we're going to salvage roughly 50 sets of T-45d Power Armor from a makeshift USAF riot containment building. Before expansion progress starts, take the old Military truck, place each suit on the bed and come back in here and equip the troops." The men perked up and almost ran straight off, "STOP!" They froze, " DON'T forget the training manuels or your men wont be able to wear them."

After five hours of waiting, a radio transmission came over his equipment, "Sir, we've managed to secure the suits, but 16 of them appear to be nonfunctional, the rest seem to work, we're heading back to the city." Justin was displeased at 34 suits, but still, it was better than none. Mieux asked, "Any issues procurring the suits?" The man fumbled a little, "Well sir, we encountered Feral troops, we managed to kill them all, one was locked in a prison cell, we lost two men sir, their bodies are on the bed of the truck." Mieux was a little disheartened, this was his first set of casualties. "We'll give them an honorable burial, but you said a feral was in a cell?" "Thats right sir." "Good, bring those suits back in, then go back, shoot something into the ghoul to knock it out. Our scientists will be eager to study this creature and observe it's habits."

His patrols in the city were now armed a little better, wearing T-45d Power Armor and various pre-war assault weapons, rifles, combat shotguns and a few pistols. Sadly, there were no energy guns in the building. He was now eager to see his expansion take place, within two weeks or so, his city would be 19 blocks wide, and then, power would be generated, courtesy of draining power from the pre-war grids and routing them to his city. He was finally capable of calling his home a true empire. Though the 'n mans land' of two blocks between New Manhattan remained unannexed. He was eager to try and become owner of New Manhattan, with luck, it would happen.

OOC: Sorry I couldn't post, I was too busy playing FO1 :D

Alexander Scalatti

Alex turned some notches on his pip-boy. "William, let me contact the Ghoul snipers." Alex walked over into the hallway and turned on his pip-boy's radio.

Alex had his pip-boy fitted with a special radio that he could talk into. It came in handy so many times that Alex had lost count. "Hello? Albert? Liam?"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Albert was cleaning his rifle and Liam was sitting down next to a fireplace. They were best friends ever since 2075, when they met in boot camp. They now lived in Ghoul High. They were currently in Albert's room.

Suddenly, their radio sprung to life. "Hello? Albert? Liam?"

Albert sprung to his feet and went over to the radio. "Who is this?"
"Alex."
"Oh hey Alex, long time no see! Or hear..." Albert exclaimed in his ghoulish voice.
"Albert, I need you to come to New Manhattan. See, there is a wedding here, and I promised the man that you would come and secure the damn place."
"Alright, I will be there as soon as I can."
"When will that be?"
"In two hours."
"Thanks."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alex turned off his pip-boy and entered the Don's office. "The ghoul snipers will be here soon."

OOC: If Alex entered the Dons office he won't find anyone there, as we went into a lounge room on the same floor, it's bigger. Read all other posts before yours before posting next time. :P

Im waiting for Zerker now..

Also guys, I regret to inform you, that as of the 29th of this month, I may vanish entirely from the forums. I might return eventually, but it would take a couple of months atleast. I cannot tell you the nature of the cause of my departure, but depend upon it, that it's not something I want. If I seem to not be active for a long time, I would like one of you take take control of Frank Vercelotti. It saddens me to have to leave a character, and an RP that I've been a part of for so long, but it is necessary.

It is my wish that Franks character be somehow incapacitated, and be in need of major physical reconstruction. If however, it doesn't seem to fit into the story you may do with him as you wish. One thing I promise however is; that I shall one day return to New Manhattan RP. Maybe as the same character, maybe as another, but I shall one day. Perhaps in one of the months of the coming year.

I shall be busy for the next couple days, so I might not be able to post as much, so I will give you all my formal Goodbye. And that I enjoyed roleplaying with you very much. All of you, and all your characters became a big part of my life in this last few months, and I thank you for allowing me to be a part of this whole thing.

OOC: :cryvaultboy: It was fun rping with you Holy. I hate to say goodbyes. I will keep your character on the rp list, so when you come back, you will have a smooth return.

Alexander Scalatti

As Alex entered the office, noone was there. [censored]! Alex left the office, and walked down several flights of stairs until he noticed the group chatting at the lounge.

Alex walked over and sat down. "The ghoul snipers will be arriving soon."

OOC: During the wedding, an assassin will attack most likely, so Frank can be well, seriously hurt during the attack.

OOC: Yeah, that would make sense. But make it dramatic. Like a sniper aimed for William or Sonia, but Frank jumped in the way to save them.. Or maybe, the assassins came in, Frank helped everyone escape but stayed behind with the elite mafia squad to battle it out, and eventually get killed, kinda like RDR or Kill Bill. Except he lived.... Or maybe he just plain died. :P

OOC: Damn, sad to see you leave, Holy. I won't forget your time here on the forums, like during the summer when our army fought Bittercup's pathetic band of ghouls, and right until now, where it's been a pleasure to RP with you, even if our characters have never been in direct contact.
I'm gonna miss Frank; his wit and sixual drive always provided me laughs. He shall be missed dearly.

EDIT: @Martyr. Is Adams still getting the fancy farewell, or was that called off after Mieux's argument with Sutler?

OOC: No he's not dead...just detained until I send in my notification to Justin. And Holy, it was good RPing with you while it lasted. Hope you return soon.

Director William Snowe

"The ghoul snipers will be arriving soon."

William nodded and sat down on a comfy sofa and contemplated what he should do about the closing in attack of Arcadia. Could he repel the attack? Of course, but the Lake Federation was his true target and until that goes away, he can't afford another war. He got up and told the lone Securitron ambassador, "Bring the soldier to me."

On the Mafia HQ floor, two heavily armed MK 1.9 Securitrons carried the bodyguard with him. This had to work. "You, soldier! Tell Mieux that if he annexes New Manhattan, I will carpet bomb Arcadia."

OOC: One last post before leaving.

Don Frank Vercelotti

Frank stood in the lounge, watching all the people around him fall into seats and begin consulting one another over the details of the wedding, and this latest development. The offer from Justin Mieux of Arcadia.

He pretended to listen to Lyn talk about her mirelurks, William contemplating silently for the most part, Alex announcing the impending arrival of his snipers, and the general buzz of everyone else. The Don himself however was pondering absent mindedly about the events of this last month.

To think so much could happen in so little time. Frank thought, looking down at his fine suit. That in such a short time, I would become the Don of this place. eying around the room he was in. He then glanced at each person in the room.

Alex; the person he met in Evanders shop. His thoughts flashed back to the time he was interrogating him. Frank let out a small chuckle at the thought. Damn, I was a bad-ass back then.

He then looked at William. Frank owed so much to this man. His life infact. Along with all the power he had. He recalled the time he was laying incapacitated in the Gauss Project base, how he escaped, only to then be offered a truce, and something in exchange for his life from the old Don. His face grew solemn once more, as his mind went over his memories of the old Don. How he met his end by his own hand. Or; window.

Frank noticed Lyn sitting there as well; pvssyring incessantly about her precious animals. Frank couldn't help but smile. But his thoughts turned morbid, as he then remembered the encounter at Rabithead, and then they turned bright once more as he remembered the woman waiting for him in his suite.

The Dons thoughts were interrupted when he felt his stomach grumble, although it was low enough for no one to possibly hear, he still looked around consciously . Blushing slightly, Frank excused himself from the crowd to go and eat, as he hadn't had his lunch that day.

"Guys, Im pretty tired; I know you fellas can handle things on your own now. Without me. Im gonna go and uhh, grab some grub then catch some Z's. You're all more than welcome to stay in the suites in the building, if you feel the need." He explained. "I... I'll see you all later" he ducked out of the room, and strolled smoothly over to his bedroom suite where he ordered steak and macaroni for dinner.

"Hey there Alexandra!" he smiled, as he noticed his personal concubine step in front of him wearing only bare minimums.

She giggled before responding. "It's Amelia."

"Oh, right. Care to join me?" he offered politely.

"I already ate, Im waiting for you" she replied, winking, and floating over to the silk covered bed.

Frank immediately left his food half-finished and stripped down, joining Amelia. Before he could climb into the bed however, his radio buzzed, and he raced to answer it.

"Boss! We're at the Cathedral. It's empty but there's a bunch of homeless folk and druggies around. What should we do?"

"Get em out. If they won't go; waste 'em" Frank replied, throwing the radio over his shoulder, and rushing back to the bed. It's just business. Frank and Amelia made love before they both fell into a deep slumber for the night. This is the life.

OOC: From this point onwards, anyone may control Franks waking actions, and eventual incapacitation. It's been a pleasure fellas.

*tips fedora, and walks out smoothly, wearing his signature smile*

Edit: Got rid of lewd imagery.

OOC: @Chris- I decided to arrange it after I argued with Sutler.....I think, so it's still on either way. (I dozed off and just woke up, so I'm a little tired at the moment )

Mieux was a little mad to see the man back, but then again, it wasn't a surprise. He dismissed the man, putting him back on patrol in the last suit of T-45d armor. He sat down to his desk, writing a formal letter.

"Dear Director Williams,

Were I a lesser man, I'd take that as a declaration of war, but, you're lack of openly and direct hostile actions shows you are as eager to go to war with me as I am eager to war with you, could I forcefully annex New Manhattan? Most likely, but not without heavy casualties on both sides. I was far to eager for territory, but, I have decided to expand in the opposite direction. However, I will send this man back to New Manhattan to be an extra hand should you ask. Before you write to me that I am up to something, yes I am, I'm not afraid of your silly threat of 'carpet bombing' me, as I have my own nasty surprises, but no, I want to harbor piece completely. Right now, all the fighting between us is purely one snarling dog snarling at the other dog, that said, I want to conduct parley with you personally should you so wish, I'll allow you four men maximum to bring as guards, or extra representatives. I want nothing that will cripple New Manhattan, I have no terms as of yet, but if we can strike up terms that benefit us both without hurting the other as little as possible, then we can become a sort of 'allied nations'. I come to you in your need, and you to mine, our cities both trade freely. Right now, we both tax the others city trade caravans, if your willing, I'd be glad to see us both become alot friendlier, I'm sorry I've been to hungry to consume New Manhattan, but with my new clarity, I'd like our cities to be a powerful ally. If this appeals to you, do let me know, I promise you I have no underhanded method up my sleeve, but I am tired of all this fighting politically, and I'd like to end now before the violence spreads into either of our streets.

Cordially,

Justin Mieux"

He sent the letter with high hopes, perhaps this would ease the tensions between the two city nations, allowing both to redirect their resources to where they were needed, and to protect themselves from their enemies, and Mieux did not want either city to be enemies.

OOC: So long, Holy. That was a great last post. "Shagged vigorously" :L This is meant to be a Teen forum. :P

Adams spoke into his radio. “Haywood, Drake, do you receive me. Over?”

“Loud and clear, sir; what are your orders? Over.” Haywood replied.

“You’re to assemble at the entrance. Sorry, boys, it’s time to leave – President’s commands. Over and out.”

The Colonel was about to radio ‘596, until he caught sight of the vertibird swooping down towards the hotel, its familiar roar instantly recognisable. Adams eyed the room before he left. His expression darkened; he hoped this would not be his first and last visit to the Mieux Hotel.

Haywood and Drake met Adams in the lobby; they quickly exchanged salutes and strode towards the vertibird, greeted by an orderly formation of soldiers flanking the trio with their weapons by their sides as they walked passed. The Colonel grinned broadly – finally, some recognition, and from a potential enemy, no less. Stars and Stripes Forever blasted out of the speakers; pride rippled through Adams’s veins and his hairs began to stick up on the back of his neck. He felt like a hero. No, I am a hero.

The Enclave personnel clambered aboard the VB-02, and leaned out the door as the vertibird ascended. The guards below fired their assault rifles into the polluted air, and Adams responded with a ‘peace’ gesture with his fingers as he smoked his cigar, courtesy of one Justin Mieux.

Darkness began to engulf the Empire Wasteland as the vertibird descended into the Poseidon Energy bunker beneath. Adams wasted no time pacing off to the Command Center.

Leaning into the intercom, the Colonel spoke. “Permission to enter, Mr. President?”

Sutler was facing away from the door, a glass of whiskey in hand, a cigarette firmly locked between in his lips, musing on his battle scars.

“Permission to enter, Mr. President?”

Adams had returned, Here's hoping he's calmed down some-what. Sutler drained his whiskey, span around and placed the glasd on his desk.

"Permission granted Colonel, provided your in the mood to rationally discus the situation."

Adam raised his eyebrows at Sutler's statement. Me irrational? Why, that's rather rich of you, Mr. President. He laughed inwardly and leaned into the intercom once more. "Of course, Mr President." The doors slid open gracefully; the Colonel took strong strides and took a seat in the soft leather chair facing Sutler. He began to smirk slightly, not quite sure as to why. He looks so [censored] off, Adams thought, fighting off a chuckle.

"Well, Mr. President, what is it you wish to discuss? The Mieux situation, perhaps? Or was there something else we need to lock horns over?" he said with a forced smile, resisting rubbing his eyes. So tired...
