New Manhattan Thread 8

Director William Snowe

"Sir we've got hundreds of leaflets flying through New Manhattan!"

William looked at the screen from his penthouse, taking care to keep the volume low since Sonia was sleeping just in the other room. He sighed and as the V-L 1-3 started to show feed of Enclave leaflets flying around New Manhattan.

He turned to the secretary. "If ANY Vertibird that doesn't match our signatures fly over our airspace, you have permission to shoot it down."

The secretary nodded and headed off. William looked at the screen worriedly, hoping that the Enclave won't target Antium.

Lyn Grave

Gramps and Lyn looked over the Enclave propaganda flier.

"[censored], the Enclave are out here? Elitist [censored]s." Gramps grumbled. Lyn passed Gramps her half finished bottle of whiskey, and Gramps all but downed the remaining alcohol. "Hey Lyn, I'm going to get some food, I'm famished," Gramps said as he walked inside. Lyn nodded to Gramps, and turned back to the conversation.

OOC: I was intending to post this before the jump forward, when one occured, but I forgot, I remember mentioning it Miuex for example.

One Month Prior

Sutler marched into the Command Center, he had returned from Arcadia only an hour ago but he knew he must act swiftly; the PoseidoNet console was fully manned, in the event of a communication the current communications officer would answer it, PoseidoNet communications being very rare. There were only a few stations still operable and of all of those that worked, only one remained staffed, a very important Enclave outpost in Chicago built beneath the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackstone_Hotel#Hotel_and_politics. Sutler entered the access code and began a transmittion, the orbiting Poseidon satilite whirring into action for the first time in months.

"Charcoal this is Volcano receiving you loud and clear, over."

"This is Angler, fetch me Granite. Over."

There was a scuffling sound and a few moments later the gruff voice of Captain Granite could be heard and then he http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/1045/granite.jpg

"Sut Angler, this is Granite, over."

"Granite you old bastard," said Sutler friendly. "Let's [censored] the protocol shall we, PoseidoNet is safe enough anyway. I am ordering a relocation of all Enclave citizens in Chicago to the Poseidon Energy Headquarters immediately, you are to pack up everything of value for transportation and are to vacuum seal the two rooms to be preserved. It makes no sense that we should all be split up like this."

"Don't mind my questioning Sutler, but why move us up too you? Chicago, the building right above us is where your ancestor helped found the Enclave, the very furniture he sat on has been preserved here."

"Granite, we have begun truely rebuilding here, how could we ever do anything in Chicago with the Brotherhood plague still present in that area? Look old sport, set off as soon as you can, we need to band together to survive, they're simply not enough of us."

Resigned to reason, Granite agreed.

"Granite, the Enclave is teetering of the verge of oblivion, we need everyone to chip in and band together to survive and we are taking new steps here. Be seeing you old sport."

"See you soon Sutler, over and out."

Sutler watched the visual connection disappear and he turned before lighting a cigarette; once upon a time Granite had been Sutler's Sergeant back in the days of the Rig, after the Rig though there squad was disolved the four former squad mates drifted apart, though Sutler had rebroken the ice with Granite again, it would be strange to see him physically again for the first time in decades; this move would effectively double the Enclave citizenship to roughly something just over 100.

"In all the Enclave, 100 [censored] people," Sutler cursed wearily before slowly walking back to his post.

Mayor Frank Vercelotti

"Alright fellas, I have a plan." Frank said after a moment of calculation. "We make an alliance. All of us. New Manhattan, Arcadia, Bridgeport, Lake Federation, Antium, everyone." he proposed. "It'll be a force too big for the Enclave to try and mess with. Heck, we'll probably be as big as the NCR." he scoffed.

The Mayor took a moment to finish off the last of his cigar before continuing. "That's what my announcement was going to be about; if you guys agreed. It's also why I was so anxious to have you guys here." he confessed, looking down at his polished shoes.

Come on, agree to this. Im sick of blood-shed. Just put all our differences aside and join forces. he urged in his mind impatiently as more and more letters dropped from the air over his city.

Mieux looked down at the ground, staring blankly at the paper, listening to Vercelotti's idea. He then spoke, "I don't know how well that would work. I mean, after that skirmish between me and Snowe, I doubt he'll just work with us, I'm sure grudges are running high on his side, I have ordered my men to just let it go, and they at least SEEM to have let go." He then ordered a waitress to take his order for a glass of wine, "In any case, We already know Snowe is rebuilding his army, he isn't exactly a subtle tactition, I doub't he'll do anything he'll deem a security risk to Antium. But still, it's worth the shot I suppose. Needless to say, I, will gladly sign a treaty of peace. But we'll need Snowe first, on the assumption he won't side with us, we at least need to make him keep from signing against us." He grabbed the glass of wine he had ordered and swallowed a small pallate full. "I suppose we could make it in his interests to see that signing up or signing to remain neutral will bring him supplies, and in reverse signing against us leads to permanant break off of all trade. But what do you three think?" He scratched behind his left ear, calculating in his head various possible outcomes.

Lyn Grave

"An alliance between all of us sounds like a good idea. We should still be careful with Antium though, we don't know if Snowe is scheming something. The beast lord faction will join this alliance!" Lyn said, trying to sound dramatic. To the keen eye, it would be noticeable that Lyn was a bit drunk.

Mayor Frank Vercelotti

Frank smiled, satisfied with the positive response. "You guys won't believe how glad I am to hear this." he grinned, and listened to each of their issues.

As Mieux spoke, the Mayor realized the bitter terms by which William had parted. "You're right." he said, once Mieux was finished. "We'll have to send him a letter in light of the current situation. I'll do it." he promised. "Excuse me, guys." he said, before taking a step back into the room when he turned back. "While Im away, think up a name of our alliance." he smiled, continuing to his office.

He stopped to chat and joke with several guests before finally making it to his office to write the letter to William.

Dear Director William Snowe,

It's been some time before we last made contact. I hope things are going well for you in your new city of Antium. I heard that you are expecting a child. Much congratulations for this. We all hope that the child will have a bright future and a happy, peaceful world in which to live in. This was actually the purpose of my message. Im sure you saw the Vertibirds from above. In case you did not know; they were spreading Enclave propaganda. This is most certainly something that cannot be taken lightly, and we must take precautionary measures to assure our safety, and avoid all conflict. In favor of this, I and several other leading factions including that of Mr. Mieux and Lyn Grave have decided to form an alliance. We wish for you and your city to be part of this alliance. It shall most definitely strengthen our respective factions, and will be a general positive step in the pursuit of peace. I implore you now, as a friend to join us. Not only will it help us, it will protect your people. Think of your child.

Your old friend, Mayor of New Manhattan, Frank Vercelotti.

There. Frank thought to himself, setting the pen down and reading the note. He then thrust it into an envelope and asked his messenger to send it straight to the Director. Within minutes, the Mayor had rejoined the gang on the balcony.

"So, any ideas?" he asked, both hands in pockets, searching for a cigar.

Lyn Grave

"The New New York Alliance!" Lyn said. At that point, Gramps returned to the balcony, clutching a few snacks in one hand, and a new bottle of whiskey in the other. The new whiskey bottle was already half-drained. Lyn snatched the snacks and whiskey out of his hands, eating them quickly, then washing them down with a long swig of whiskey. Gramps glared at her as she did this, but didn't complain.

Mieux gave a slight stroke on his new moustache, his hands following it's well groomed line, "I don't know, how about the 'Independance of New Manhattan' council? I mean, My death is already ascertained. And unless I am either ousted from power or step down, I will remain in control of my city, but, I want to step down a little, semi retire from this life. I mean, I shouldn't even be alive in terms of natural longevity. It was a freak accident. In the past ten years, I have dealt with more stress than I have for almost 200 years. That said, I think it's time Manhattan strip itself of the word 'new' in terms of it's regional name. I will control Arcadia and all the land south to the edge of the island, you control New Manhattan the settlement, and if they agree, Bridgeport could relocate here into Manhattan Island build their own settlement, and together, rule the island under fair council and leadership. In all honesty, I'd LIKE Snowe to comeback, but he'd likely attempt to claim the island as a whole, I mean, he even weaseled away from here without signing his terms of surrender. No, he's best left off this island. As for the Enclave, we should still do polite business and trade, but we CANNOT allow ourselves to trust them, war is simply out of the question, they would largely turn this island into a sunken island. I tell you what Frank, we can meet in my tower when it's convenient for everyone, and we can sit down and plan this out. In the meantime, I'm not sure." Mieux cleared his throat, and drank a small glass of water to clear his throat and wetten it back up. He wasn't used to talking in long statements. He then looked about at the others, "What's your take in all this?" He said, leaning against the balcony, the T-51b's still watching, albeit from a distance, unable to hear the leaders talking.

Mayor Frank Vercelotti

"The New New York Alliance!" Lyn exclaimed, clearly intoxicated. Frank merely shrugged off the suggestion. I knew she'd get drunk. he sniggered.

The Mayor listened intently as Mr. Mieux spoke.

"Yes, we'll speak more about this later on. In the comfort of your tower." Frank agreed, feeling slightly saddened to know that Mr. Mieux may not be alive too much longer. I was finally getting used to the guy. he thought to himself. "As for the name; I think 'East Coast Allegiance' is an a pretty sweet name. Sounds cool too, whaddya say?"

"Frank is my buddy, so we should go with his idea." Lyn said, leaning up against the Mayor. Gramps let out a laugh before snatching the whiskey bottle from her.

"Woah there cowgirl." Frank sighed, smiling. Damn; she feels so good. he thought to himself, allowing several other dirty thoughts enter his mind before feeling a familiar stir in his slacks. Wait up, Frankie; she's drunk. It's against the code of conduct. he argued against himself. Screw the code of conduct. his smile broadened. Yeah, but when she wakes up in the morning; she'll send a deathclaw after your ass. Keep that in mind. he realized. Alright fine, I won't go that far. he resigned, beaten by himself in an argument that took place solely in his own head.

Alexander Scalatti

Alex shook his head. "No, the Enclave have NOT done anything bad to us besides this propaganda drop. If they take it a step further, fine, but not now."

Alex grabbed a glass of whiskey and took a sip. "This rail-line would benefit everyone, but we need Antium to stay out of the way. We will not connect the rail to them. I refuse to work with any commie, yet alone a commie with guns."

OOC: What's so communistic about William? Communism is basically the political belief that everyone is equal. If you refer to his dictatorship; fascist is the correct term.

Mieux grunted and stopped leaning on the balcony. standing at full height. "It's late, and I've got papers to finish filling out." Mieux said, hiding the true fact that he was feeling fidgety inside, this leaving his comfort zone in 200 years was a big leap. But he did have some papers to finish. He walked towards the door, Mieux, almost as if Psychic, touched Frank on the shoulder and whispered so only the two could hear it. "Go for it, you know theres a sixual tension between you both, besides, I can't say I'd regret a night with that." He then had a smarmy and sly grin on his face as he looked at Frank, a look he had when something he found profoundly funny had occured, and Franks internal struggle was one of those somethings. He then made one last sly glance towards Lyns rear and waved a hand to his friends. "Au Revoir Mon Ami" He said, and with a quick snap of his fingers, his bodyguards huddled around him, escorting him back to his world above the world. His left hand on his dress cane, his right in his pocket, a definition of Pre-war lavishness.

Leon Graves - Port Neptune -Shining Star Casino

Leon stood outside his office on the second floor of his casino leaning onto the railing while he watched patrons play various games of chance. After a while Leon descended the stairs of and headed over to the bar as he had a taste for a nuka-cola.

"Bartender, nuka-cola, now!", Leon rasped.

"Right away, boss.", the barman said as he disappeared into the back where the refrigerator was kept. A few minutes later the man returned nuka-cola in hand which he placed onto the counter.

Leon snatched the drink up, popped the cap which he tossed to the barman then began guzzling the cool drink as he exited The Shining Star. Outside the establishment a black jeep waited with four guards flanking the vehicle. Upon Leon's approach one of the men walked over a stunned look on his face.

"Boss! What are you doing out here without your security detail? You know their are people aiming to take you out."

Taking the bottle of liquid gold from his lips Leon gave the bodyguard an evil look. "While I appreciate your concern Vincenzo, I can take care of myself. You of all people should know by now that I'm not afraid to get my suit dirty. Just because I lead this outfit doesn't mean that I'm better than anyone else in the organization. Are we clear Vincenzo?", Leon said as he grabbed the man by his collar and slammed him up against the jeep.

"Y-Yeah I understand boss.", Vincenzo stammered.

Leon released his grip he then patted Vincenzo on the shoulder. "Good. I'm glad we understand each other. Now I need you to drive me out to Jarl's lab, I would like to check up on his progress.

After straightening out his suit jacket Vincenzo opened the passenger side door for Leon to enter before going over to the driver's side door. Two of the guards clamored into the backseat while the fourth climbed onto the roof and manned the mounted machine gun.

Getting settled in his seat Leon withdrew his most prized possession from his pocket. The item in question was a gold plated antique pocket watch that his parents had found while on a job in Maine. Leon treasured the still working relic because instead of pawning it off for a load of caps his parents entrusted it to their only son. Smiling at the memory Leon clicked the watch open seeing that the time was 2:08 PM. Pocketing the watch once more Leon waited for Vincenzo to start the jeep.

Vincenzo turned the ignition making the pre-war vehicle roar to life. Flooring the gas the Jeep took off down the streets of Port Neptune.

OOC: I added an antique pocket watch to Leon's personal effects.

Frank grimaced at how Alex looked down upon the Director, but decided not to say anything on the subject. "Are you in the alliance, or not?" he pressed.

Mr. Mieux had stopped leaning against the balcony rail and spoke up once more. "It's late, and I've got papers to finish filling out." he said.

Frank could sense that he was agitated. Must be scary coming out after all this time. he sympathized.

"Sure thing, Mieux. It was good to have your company. Oh and thanks for the gifts." the Mayor smiled.

Before leaving, Mieux drew towards Frank and whispered in his ear "Go for it, you know theres a sixual tension between you both, besides, I can't say I'd regret a night with that." he said referring to Lyn.

Frank raised his eyebrows in surprise. Damn, he's good. he smirked, as Mieux smiled back knowingly. "Au Revoir Mon Ami" he waved and was out, just as smoothly as he had entered.

Yeah, Im Italian, not French. the Mayor chuckled to himself before turning his attention back to the rest of the gang, especially Lyn. He eyed her carefully while remaining conscious of her Gramps. Need to get the Ghoul out of the picture somehow.. he thought to himself, contemplating how he would 'make his move'.

Sutler limped (his dikey leg had been playing up again) into the old briefing room which now served as the Cabinet Room, the rest of the Cabinet was already there and Sutler slowly took his place at the head of the table, he looked around from "The Iron Maiden" Maskell to the tall, bespectacled Whittaker.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Cabinet, I have called you all here to discus the next step in the Enclave's gradual expansion into Manhattan, the leaflet drop may have done some good, we of course cannot tell until we go there. However, I have decided that some kind of first-hand observational outpost may be the next step, somewhere out of the way so that no harm befalls those stationed there. Captain Granite and the citizens from Chicago should be here soon and then, once our numbers have been bolstered, we shall establish the post, however, before then I was thinking that perhaps a disinfomation campaign might be in order, so that, should the succpicions of the wastelanders be aroused, they will search the wrong areas."

Sutler unrolled a map of Manhattan island and the Cabinet all bent in closer, after some hours of discussion they decided on a location for an outpost on the Western edge of the island.

"Okay now that we have established where the outpost will be, I suggest that up here..." Sutler pointed to the northern tip of the island. "We conduct a few... brutal acts," he said with a devilish smile. "Some public hangings or something of that nature, maybe a small community could be destroyed whatever, we shall recon the area with Eyebots. Now Dr Bennet, a progress report on Project ARTEMIS?"

Bennet stood up, before pushing his glasses back up his nose and begining.

"Mr President I am pleased to say that we have begun the development of a second ARTEMIS unit, the first one is a complete success and once the second unit is ready I would have no hesitation about deploying them."

"Very good Doctor," Sutler stood up and rubbed his eye's. "We shall begin tomorrow, it's getting late and none of us are getting any younger. Be seeing you all."

Gramps, who had now finished a second bottle of whiskey, spoke up. "Ya know what we should do? We should throw a big party! With lots and lots of whiskey! Then, we should invite -hic- the Enclave...and the Brotherhood. Then, we should watch as they kill each other off, and drink all the -hic- whiskey too!"

While Gramps rambled on, Lyn wrapped her arms around Frank.

"So be it. You're only-" Franks response was cut short by Lyn beginning to wrap her arms around Frank. He widened his eyes at this. "L-Lyn?" he stammered. He wasn't sure if it was just the whiskey doing this or if she actually felt attraction for him. "Hey Lyn, wanna see my new Estate after the party?" he asked casually. Behind his back the Mayor crossed his fingers.

"You have fun playing with your friends, Lyn, Gramps needs to go take a nap." Gramps said as he staggered off. He barely made it outside the door when he fell down, passed out. The deathclaw approached Gramps, and with a heave, threw Gramps over his shoulder. The deathclaw then walked off to find an appropriate bed for him.

Arcadia- Main road

Mieux squad was dismissed as the gates of Arcadia sealed. Something about being in HIS realm was invigorating, he was about 50 feet from the doors, when he heard loud yelling. "ALRIGHT YOU PANSIES! WE AREN'T PICKING DAISIES, THIS IS WAR PRIVATE!" The drill sergeant yelled into a fresh faced recruit of Arcadias military. He had stopped a moment, leaning on his cane, the sergeant unaware of his presence. "NOW! I WANT ALL OF YOU TO RUN THE ENTIRE INTERIOR OF THIS CITY FIFTY TIMES!" The sergeant ceased to yell, "You all can thank Private Sundle here for this reward. MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!" He watched as the squad of roughly twelve started running, shouting pre-war miltary cadence as they ran. Mieux clapped his hands in delight, "Simply wonderful Sergeant Steele. Firm Discipline, strict unbreaking in character, rigorous order. I'll have to make a note of your skills to your CO. Good work." Sergeant Steele raised his hand to his head in salute, "Thank you sir, it is an honor to earn your distinction sir." He then jogged after the squad. Part of Mieux revitalization was to train these soldiers in Pre-War culture, even Mieux's flag was the Old World flag, fluttering on a flagpole in the center of the city 4-way road. His city was quickly becoming a hub of pre-war skill and knowledge, though most of the tourists came to gamble in the casinos.

Mieux had traveled no more than a couple feet when a general of his stopped him. "Mr. Mieux sir, we've done reconescence of that 'Port Chester' place, as per your personal directive sir." Mieux cocked an eyebrow and grabbed the manilla folder from the general, "And your report in summary is what, General Smith?" The general ceased his military formality, "Well sir, the locals of the region called it 'Port Neptune, scouts indicated a group of notoriety known as the 'Black Sun Smugglers' were there sir. Per objective peramiters, we made no direct contact with anyone who could possibly be hostile, they run a casino, which one of the agents named as, 'Shining Star Casino'. The owner is a guy people called 'Eclipse', we have no birth name or photo of him. But they use a pre-war military jeep as transport." Mieux took in all this with deep interest, "Hmm, keep an eye on that region, pending their attitudes, we may be capable of doing business with them." Mieux held the folder in his hand, "Dismissed soldier." Mieux said in a calm voice, the man walked off into the night, his trenchcoat reflecting the street lights. With that, he made a sharp turn and went into the hotel to his room, relaxing on the couch until the music of his record player lulled him to sleep.
