Alexander Scalatti

Alex was about to enter the mayors office, when a big burly guard stopped him.

"Hey man, you invited?"

"Um..of course!"

"Fine ya'll, don't be causing no trouble ya' dig?"

Alex nodded and entered the party with Ann by his side. Frank was talking to Lyn. Damn, does he..like her? Ann walked over to the buffer as Alex walked over to Frank.

"Well, heya Frank, its been a month, so, how ya doing?" Alex looked at Lyn. "Fancy seeing you here."

Mieux had awoken, wondering if Alex had gotten the letter to come to Mieux Tower as soon as possible, he then sat upright, furling hte blanker he had covered himself with a little tighter, not yet ready to be at room temperature. He was doing something he seldom did, sat in what back in his day was 'home relaxed' his shirt was tieless, his feet were bare, he was relaxed and comfortable. "You know," He thought aloud," I'm glad I have my own slice of pre-war luxury, I'd be mortified were I to have to live....like that." He finished, looking down at the city below, it was no longer to his standards, it was near pre-war, but not near enough. Never able to get work out of his mind, he sat back at his desk, he flipped on his desk lamp, it reminded him of his days staying up late working in the corporate office back before the war. He then decided to read through his income ledgers, awaiting Mr. Scalatti's response.

Mayor Frank Vercelotti

Before Lyn could reply he was interrupted by a familiar face. Alex Scallati

"Well, heya Frank, its been a month, so, how ya doing?" Alex said.

"Alex, Im glad you could make it!" the Mayor exclaimed, shaking his hand, smiling. "It certainly has been too long." he remarked. "As you can see, Im doing quiet well for myself." he answered, motioning his hands towards the building they were in. "I hear you've got a sweet gig of your own over in Bridgeport, how's that going?" he asked, offering Alex a cigar.

Alex took the cigar. "Stressful, very stressful. I got tons of refugees from the area pilling to get in, my mutant friends are building a rail line from Bridgeport to New Manhattan, and I have William, who is very damn close to my city, to deal with."

Frank let out a hearty chuckle. "William." he repeated, amused. "He's got a city too, I understand? Anyway; I don't mind building the train station from this side though; I have a bunch of spare concrete that I have no clue what to do with." he offered, holding the lighter out for Alex.

Alex was handed the lighter. He lit the cigar. "This seems Cuban to me, pre-war Cuban cigars, damn." Alex took a puff from the cigar. "Well, my mutie friends discovered a very old Amtrak line or something like that. Common sense dictates that that line hits NYC, or somewhere very near to here. The line is old, but can be fixed up and used."

"This seems Cuban to me, pre-war Cuban cigars, damn." Alex commented taking a puff from the cigar.

"Ah, nothing special" Frank shrugged, taking a puff from his own.

"Well, my mutie friends discovered a very old Amtrak line or something like that. Common sense dictates that that line hits NYC, or somewhere very near to here. The line is old, but can be fixed up and used." he continued.

"Yeah, but the station would be all messed up. Either that or fit to be condemned. We'll fix it up from this side; as a gesture of good-will." Frank smiled, patting Alex on the shoulder before sighing. "I still don't know how you trust those muties." he remarked, staring at the moon once again.

Sitting at his desk, Mieux sat at his desk, itching at himself with thought, and he got up and went to his room and dressed in full. He was nervous, today would be big step for him psychologically. He finished tying his bowtie, he checked his image in the mirror, he had put on a silken black tuxedo and vext, the bowtie an equally beautiful silk black. He took his silver dress cane and decided to head to the lobby.

"Mr. Mieux!" Jack cried in shock, "W-What are you doing down here sir? Do you need something? Is everything alright? C-" Mieux just raised a hand and winced, "SHHHH!!! Are you okay now? Good. Now, I want you to bring me four T-51b troopers immediately." Jack had a stunned look on his face, "Er, right away sir." He quickely phoned the guards building. No more than ten minutes had passed before the clinking of the steel booted soldiers arrived, laser rifles at the ready. "Yes Mr. Mieux, you called for us?" Mieux nodded his head a little to the left, "Indeed I did gentlemen. I want you all to escort me to New Manhattan." They looked to each other in confusion, "But...Sir, you've never left Arcadia since the war, or so we hear." Said one of the soldiers, a female by the voice. "That's true, but Mr. Vercelotti has been a valuable employee, and, despite my saying I wouldnt attend, I want to surprise him, no one, not even God himself, would expect me to leave Arcadia." Mieux said, a smug grin on his face.

They were now in New Manhattan, and the trip had been eye opening, Mieux had eyes and ears everywhere, but to experience the Post-War world first hand, he saw people on the corner near an uncontrolled steet near New Manhattan, witnessing two thugs attempt to drag a young looking woman away into a building, and Mieux didn't let the men get away, he saw drug addicts, prostitution, he truly saw what his allies had seen day to day, well, maybe not Sutler, but the others did. He now understood a brief concept of what these people went through daily, fighting for survival, those priveleged to live inside New Manhattan and Arcadia were beyond the word fortunate. He shrugged the heavy hearted thoughts from his mind and entered the building the ball was to be held in. He ordered his men to wait by the doors and still people parted a path for him, having seen pictures of Mieux, murmers of awe, he heard a few whispers 'Is that the new dictator?' 'So that's what he looks like!' 'Why's he here? I heard he never leaves that Ivory Tower of his.' He frowned and thought to himself 'So much for the element of surprise' he thought with disdain. "Alex, Frank, it's good to see you gentlemen. I hadn't intended to come, but, since you are a valuable friend and employee, I figure it time I emerge from my shell. I have to say, my trip here on foot was.......educational. I never want to learn that lesson again." He then gave a polite smile an grabbed Franks hand, "Happy Birthday my friend."

Mayor Frank Vercelotti

As the Mayor and Alex continued to converse they were interrupted once more, by yet another familiar face. Familiar but unexpected.

"M-Mr. Mieux?" Frank stuttered. "You actually came." he uttered, having trouble processing the idea. I thought this guy never leaves Arcadia. This is a true honor. he acknowledged.

"Alex, Frank, it's good to see you gentlemen. I hadn't intended to come, but, since you are a valuable friend and employee, I figure it time I emerge from my shell. I have to say, my trip here on foot was.......educational. I never want to learn that lesson again." Mieux said.

The Mayor laughed at his remark.

Smiling, Mr. Mieux grabbed Franks hand and wished him a Happy Birthday.

"Thank you, sir." Frank replied, humbled by the presence of someone who has probably never left the perfect little world he had carved for himself several stories in the air. "How is it to be back in reality?" he asked, smirking offering him a cigar and calling a waiter to bring some champagne. "Trust me, whatever you saw is a hell of a lot better than how it used to be." he mentioned.

OOC:Colonel, I would remove the child killing bit in your post for two reasons; first off New Manhattan isn't actually in that bad a state, and second it's somewhat taboo on this forum, so the post might end up being altered by a Mod..

OOC: It wasn't in New Manhattan, it was in an 'uncontrolled' area, but you're right, I'll fix it pronto. I just figured it'd add to the harsh realities feel, but, I forget 13+ forum

Mieux raised his hand in a halting motion, "No thank you, I don't smoke. But I will take this glass of wine." Mieux grabbed a glass off a passing waiters tray, the waiter looking annoyed and heading back to get a glass to replace the one Mieux had taken, "And no, not quite Mr. Vercelotti. My reality was Corvegas, sweatervests, American propaganda, and police officers, what I saw outside the cities walls was drugs, hokers, and barbaric kidnapping." He then gave an attempt at lightening the moment and gave a half laugh, "No, it's not my reality. That was just plain anarchy."

Lyn Grave

"That is a tempting offer, Frank, and I will need to think about it." Lyn said simply as she looked back out over the city. She pondered over how Gramps was faring, and if he was even still alive. A tear came to her eye as she thought about him potentially dying.

Lyn looked down to see 4 power-armored soldiers flanking a well dressed man. Her heart began to beat faster as she looked over them. She let out a sigh of relief as she realized that the well dressed man was Mr. Mieux.

Alex chuckled a bit, "Yup, the Empire Wasteland is not anything like the old USA, I can say that for sure!" Alex took another puff of his cigar. He turned toward Frank.

"I think that that the rail line ends at Grand Central Station, ya' know? A bit south of New Manhattan? We could clear the place out, but we'd have to wall it off, and those mutants are persistent if nothing else."

"I still don't know how you trust those muties."

"Yea, the mutants here are led by a first-gen mutant from Mariposa named Harris. He served under the Master, but left after some crazy Vault person blew the place up. He left the boneyard and wandered for a while till he came here. I met him one day about two years after I had to escape my vault, he was wandering into Manhattan, when he got attacked near my vault. I helped fight off the attacking mutants, and we have been friends ever since."

Tyler 'Gramps' Grave

Tyler strolled the streets of the city known as New Manhattan. His 12 gauge shotgun rested on his shoulder as he admired the bright lights of the city.

"Heh, sure beats what I had back in Iowa. And here I thought I would always be a country boy." His ghoulish voice rasped out, aimed at no one in particular. He made his way to what appeared to be a mayor's office, hoping to get some information on where Lyn went.

Lyn Grave

Lyn, seemingly lost in thought, continued to look over the city, until her eyes caught a lone ghoul, walking through the street. Jeans, t-shirt, leather jacket, 12 gauge shotgun...tall, heavyset... Her heart skipped a beat as she realised who the ghoul was.

"Gramps!" Lyn practically screamed out as she rushed outside. Lyn embraced the giant of a man that was her Gramps in a big hug. Tears of joy fell freely from her eyes against Gramp's chest.

"I missed you too, Lyn," Gramps said as he hugged her back.

As Frank continued speaking with Alex and Mr. Mieux he saw Lyn suddenly dash back into the hall and out the other end. "She's been drinking way too much, tonight." It was about time she did something crazy like this, he joked with Alex. "But hot damn, does she have an ass or what!" he exclaimed once she was well out of ear shot.

The Mayor contemplated whether to follow her out or not, but decided against it. Meh, her animals will take care of things if they get hairy. he shrugged nonchalantly.

OOC: You forgot to take notice of Lyn's scream, Holy

Lyn Grave

Lyn let go of Gramps, and promptly started tugging on his arm.

"Gramps, you have to come meet my friends!" Lyn exclaimed. Gramps chuckled, and let Lyn lead the way into the room and back up to the balcony. Gramps set the shotgun outside, so as not to cause a disruption.

"Everyone, this is my Gramps!" Lyn exclaimed as soon as they were on the balcony.

"Pleasure to make your aquaintance. My name is Tyler Grave." Gramps rasped out as he gave a quick bow.

Mieux merely turned his head at the sound of Lyns scream, cocked an eyebrow and made a mildly uninterested look to Franks joke, he then took the others to a balcony, his men following him like hawks. "So gentlemen, tell me more about this rail line you have proposed? I'm planning on building the old rail to New Manhattan from Arcadia to deliver concrete, I'd have no arguments getting shipments from Bridgeport. Speaking of your location. What should we do about Snowe? If he interferes with anything, it'll be war all over again, and I'm JUST now recovering from that war, and amazingly, so is New Manhattan. But then again, I have amazing care for my property. But either way, we need to make some way to assure he wont do anything. Oh, and have you guys heard? My spies report his wife is pregnant, like father like son no doubt. Good thing I'll be dead in a few years so I wont have to deal with that foul child." Mieux eyes widened in fear, his wineglass shattering on the floor as it fell. He had just let his closest guarded secret revealed to them, though he knew they were trustable, he never wanted anyone to know he was just as mortal.

"Pleasure to make your aquaintance. My name is Tyler Grave." Gramps rasped out as he gave a quick bow.

Alex shook his hand. "My name is Alexander Scalatti, former vault dweller, turned trader, my wife Ann, who was my friend back in the vault, is over there eating I believe, chatting with other women."

"So gentlemen, tell me more about this rail line you have proposed? Alex's eyes widened. "Well, Bridgeport is making a rail line, we could connect the two, and we cannot let that baby to live, but you're going to die soon? What the [censored]? Weren't you in some fancy life saving chamber?"

Mieux looked to the left in uncomfort, he decided to come clean. "Yes, the intended goal was I'd use it to emerge every few years, and the rest of the time, let an AI controlled super computer with my neuro-computational matrix doing things as I'd do them, and it's quite good at it. But sadly, I wasn't smart enough to consider radiation shield. My Penthouse is blast proof, bullet proof, fire proof and so on. But, I neglected radiation dampeners, consequentially, the gamma radiation seeped in, and by some miracle, or curse pending who looks at it, it sort of 'reverse ghoulified' me. My physical appearance shall remain the youthful appearance I had when I went in on October 20th, 2077, three days before the bombs fell. When I emerged, my auto-docs didnt indicate anything wrong. It wasnt unto 2270 that I started to feel sick, a first for me, so I went to my auto-doc again, it indicated my internal organs were slowly deteriorating, those pills you've caught me taking from time to time? I try to hide my taking them, but those I take daily to subside the pain and slow it's process, but in almost eight years time, it'll run it's course. In that eight years, I'm pushing to see as much of this city glittering as possible. Then when I die, I want someone sensible to run my city, hence I've watched you and Frank so carefully, you two are more than suitable candidates to take over, or if you wanted, you could both run it together, the point is, I will die, and I don't want Snowe or that spawn of his to live close enough to even piss in the direction of my city let alone rule it." Mieux said, his eyes still not looking at anyone, one hand on a rail of the balcony, the other in his pocket.

Alex scratched his head. "Internal ghoulification? Never heard of that before. I do know several ghouls who have been alive since the war, and their just fine, I don't know why you're dying from this, but anyways, thanks. If you die, I will gladly take over your city, and turn it into a beautiful pre-war paradise, but, we need a GECK for that. My vault's GECK was taken by the Enclave, so we will have to look for other options."

"I don't know why you would be embarrased about being mortal. Immortality is best left for whatever higher diety you believe in. Everyone dyes someday." Lyn stated with a nod.

"I myself am a pre-war ghoul, and I'm still kicking. Don't know what would make internal ghoulification so different." Gramps added in. Gramps then turned to whisper in Lyn's ear. "Hey, Lyn, mind telling me who these people are?"

Lyn whispered back, pointing at each person in turn. "Frank Vercelotti and Justin Mieux. Alex introduced himself."

'596 was heading Manhattan Island, her cargo hold loaded with infomational leaflets which would be distributed over the major settlements, the mafioso casinoes in particular. The posters were a double-sided affair, one side being that of a wastelander http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_family all swinging from a gallows, positioned in such a way as that the less than stellar pre-war cameras could make out the bruises and other signs of injury; it was captioned "Don't let this be you! Hostility towards the Enclave will not be tolerated! The other-side was a picture of Sutler, glowering down at a potentional reader and was simply titled "Pax Enclave"; Sutler had created it, he felt the latin added to the elitist and superior nature of the Enclave which he wanted to impress upon the "people" he had always dispised. [censored] wastelanders, he thought bitterly as he watched '596 fly on it's Cole Protocal route before heading to Manhattan (which Sutler refused to call "New"). She would drop her cargo over Evergreen, other market towns and scum pits before making it's way to Bridgeport, which, being a hive of mutants, would require reminding of their place.

OOC: Ramendia, you should be careful (and you did) because Mieux wasn't his original last name, thats the name he took post war when he forced squatters out of the tower and started up Mieux Tower and Arcadia.

Mieux rubbed his eyes, a little tired, he then shrugged, "Don't worry Alex, you're likely to have a controlling interest in Arcadia. I want to merge New Manhattan with Arcadia, but I doubt the locals would be happy, controlling New Manhattan is the next best step. That sa-" Mieux he halted, looking confused. "I....hear a vertibird." and almost on cue it flew overhead, he saw one float by, and watched it's cargo hold open, "Oh god, more bombs." Mieux said aloud to himself, and sure enough, something fell out, but it wasn't bombs. "What the- What is this?" Mieux said aloud, picking up a leaflet. "He read it to himself, then huddling between the three partners and the ghoul, "Hmph, at this point it's harder to tell who's more bloated egoed, Sutler or Snowe." He said, he didn't like this, it was an omen of things to come in his mind.

Mayor Frank Vercelotti

"Everyone, this is my Gramps!" Lyn exclaimed returning to the balcony accompanied by a Ghoul.

"Pleasure to make your aquaintance. My name is Tyler Grave." the Ghoul introduced himself, bowing courteously.

Frank struggled to hide his scowl as he shook hands with the Ghoul identified as Gramps. "Speak of the devil, Lyn and I were just talking about you." he smiled uneasily. I coulda sworn a few flakes just dropped out of him. He observed.

Mieux began to speak again soon after "So gentlemen, tell me more about this rail line you have proposed? I'm planning on building the old rail to New Manhattan from Arcadia to deliver concrete, I'd have no arguments getting shipments from Bridgeport. Speaking of your location. What should we do about Snowe? If he interferes with anything, it'll be war all over again, and I'm JUST now recovering from that war, and amazingly, so is New Manhattan. "Well, Bridgeport is making a rail line, we could connect the two, and we cannot let that baby to live, but you're going to die soon? What the [censored]? Weren't you in some fancy life saving chamber?" Alex responded, infuriating the Mayor.

"Alex! How could you say something like that! What if it was your child?" he pressed, controlling his voice so as not to rile the other guests. "You can't make a decision like that." he concluded in a harsh tone.

Mieux then began to explain the process of his past and what exactly went on. Frank did not understand a single word and thus kept quiet throughout. The trio continued to converse, as Frank continued taking sips of wine and puff from his depleting cigar. All the while, he watched over his city under the moonlight. It seems so peaceful at night. he thought to himself. Far away in a serene state of mind, Frank soaked in every detail of the morbid beauty of New Manhattan. Dim lights shone below, and several factories let out a constant stream of smog from their ceiling vents. Accompanying them where the tiny dots of light coming from individual houses. Great people, my people. the Mayor fought a tear, when suddenly he heard a noise that cut his little moment short.

Are those..Vertibirds? he wondered as Mieux voiced his thoughts. "I....hear a vertibird." he confirmed. "Oh god, more bombs." he exclaimed as the Vertibirds belly opened, letting leaflets fly out into the wind.

"It's just paper you wuss." Frank whispered, chuckling to himself. All of them gathered round Mieux who had gotten hold of one. It was an Enclave propaganda poster. The Mayor grimaced, and turned away to think. We should hold a bonfire of these things. he planned, but then decided against it. No wait, that would show hostility. I'll just have my people ignore it. It won't be an issue after I make tonights announcement anyway. he concluded.
