New Manhattan is probably one of the longest running threads in Bethesda Forums history, if not the longest! Thanks for your extreme dedication to this RP.

I am still accepting new rpers. This RP is as free as can be, you can be whoever you want. The plot is held together by the main characters, but you do not have to be in the main plot if you don't want to.

Rules:

1. Keep Things Civil: I have seen many threads locked because of uncivility. Keep things clean and don't insult other people.

2. Post Length: I don't really care about the length of a post, but make it longer than just a sentence ok?

3. How Much You Should Post: If you are a main character or want to be one, post at least twice a day (this is not a binding rule.) If you are a side character, post at least once every two days or so. All I really want you to do is to make sure you are on top of whats going on. This RP is quick, and just missing a day can mean that you missed some key plot points.

4. NO UBERING: This is major. Don't play a god character. Don't uber at all, it ruins the RP for everybody. Please, follow RP canon. If you have to take an elevator to get to a location, don't just fly your vertibird, land, and just waltz in. Follow the lore that has been set.

5. Don't Do A Major Plot Change Without Other's Approval: Don't nuke a town to the ground unless you have approval.

6. Major events: Major events require planning. You HAVE TO GO THROUGH ME to plan a major event in the RP. Smaller events like a visit, no, you do not have to go through me. But a LARGE event like a huge battle, yes, go through me first.

7. Ask Questions. If in doubt, ask a me or a fellow RPer a question via OOC thread or PM. Don't assume, ask questions.

Locations:

EMPIRE WASTELAND:

New Manhattan: a walled town located on what was Central Park. The town is a thriving town with about 1500 people within its walls. The town is heavily sought after by several groups and is in the middle of a huge power struggle. Where will you fit in?

New York City is dark and depressing. Manhattan was full of tall buildings and still is. Sunlight rarely penetrates unto the streets below. Mutants are everywhere. The only safe place in Manhattan is the city of New Manhattan.

The city itself: (The year is 2283). The mayor is dead and the mayorship is being contested.

Central Square: The area where people come to talk about the day. Many shops and bars are located here.

North Wall: The area at the North of Town. It is heavily guarded as mutants attempt to break down the walls every day. Beyond the walls is darkness and death. Mostly a resedential area.

Evergreen: The area of town where casinos and bars are. The mafia hangs out here. The casinos are: CAPone (run by me) Yellowlight Poker and Snacks, and RADIATION.

Reuters: The main industrial area. This is where all the manufacturing happens.

Reuters Way: The only road in and out of town. It is heavily walled and leads to the Brookyln Bridge. A small port is located where the bridge once stood.

Ivory Square: The govermental square of New Manhattan

The Empire Wasteland:

Poseidon Energy Headquarters: Pre-war Poseidon Energy Corporate Headquarters and research facility. Enclave bunker beneath is now used by 50 D.C. remnants. Led by President Sutler and Colonel Adams.

Liberty Lost: A slaver camp located where the Statue of Liberty is. This is a HUGE slaver operation. The slavers are led by Fred Gandoe. They want control of New Manhattan.

New Rabition (Rabithead.): a smoldering ruin. Don't expect looting here.

Ghoul High: A small ghoul town located on the ruins of Queens High School in Queens. Home to about 126 Ghouls. They make their money by scauaging and trade. They are seeking to be controlled by New Manhattan.

Vault 109: Once a vault, now scraqed for Enclave use. The GECK was found there. Alexander Scalatti hails from there.

Vault 110: A vault that is still inhabited. The experiment was never enacted due to complications. Home to about 1200 People. Raiders want to attack and take it over.

The Core: A former raider camp. The raiders were all killed, and now the place is being renovated.

Radioville: A medium sized town located in a walled compund in South Manhattan. A pre-war radio tower is located here. This town is where "Empire Radio" is broadcasted from. The mayor is Renald Paulson. who is also the DJ for the radio station.

Charlie and Sons Chemicals: A now abandoned building. Once housed the mutant army.

Camp Android: A huge camp led by the insitute. They want control of New Manhattan.

Arcadia: A growing town located near New Manhattan. Is led by a reclusive man named Justin.

Antium:

Great Legion Wall - A massive wall circling across the ruins of Stamford to deter any unwanted forces. Heavily garrisoned on all sides with only two entrances. Each has a checkpoint every 500 meters, containing one rocket artillery position.
Noctem Gate - The secondary gates that are a popular hot spot at night, having many bars and inns around the Noctem gate.
Diem Gate - The main gates that shine from day to night as if it were noon all day long. Where all caravans and travelers stop to trade goods. Has many trading stalls right outside.
Zodiac Tower - Houses the main government officials and has the Zodiac Penthouse where William and Sonia live.
Xian Plaza - A massive plaza containing 90% of all the major work places , food supply areas, markets, and casinos. Very high living costs, usually only company owners can live here.
Medici Residential Area - Where everybody who isn't a company owner or government official live. The largest District, containing about 50 big apartments, all renovated Pre-War buildings.
Horizon Square - The most popular hot spot for government officials and their secretaries. Also where the NSU(Nova Spy Unit) acts as a sort of Secret Service.

Bridgeport: Located about 30 Miles from New Manhattan. A new but growing city. Is a major trade hub, as it is located on the extreme edge of the Empire Wasteland. Supplies clean water due to its old water treatment plant. Has the population number of Junktown. Many refugees want to enter the city, so the supplies are strained.

Congress Gate: The northern gate of the city. A smaller gate.

John Davis Gate: The main gate into Bridgeport. Slums are located near the gate.

Baldwin Plaza: The central square of the city. The goverment buildings are located here.

Crossway Market: Located on the old ruins of a mall, this is one of the biggest markets in the world. Traders from all over come to here for supplies.

Federation Square: The square where the Lake Federation Embassy is.

The Port: A major port located on the waterfront.

The Slums: Located just outside of the John Davis Gate. The slums are dangerous and smelly. Expect to get mugged. Most of the citizens go around and enter through the Congress Gate. All of the citizens of the Slums are refugees.

BEYOND THE EMPIRE WASTELAND:

The Lake Federation: A large federation of towns that makes it money by fishing and by water caravans. They are located in Michigan and parts of Canada.

Detroit: The acting capital of the Lake Federation. A bridge connects Detroit to Ronto. Combined, there are over 10,000 citizens living in the combined city area.

Laketon: A smoldering ruin that is being rebuilt.

Ronto: A former raider/slaver fortress that was captured by Lake Federation Soldiers.

General Motors Factory: Where the Tesla Lamp is located.

The Pitt: Used to be major trog infested hell-hole with raiders all over the place. Then, the Lone Wanderer came. He cleared the place out of raiders. About three years later, the Lake Federation came in and completely cleared the place out of everything. LF citizens came in and now inhabit the city. Home to the Lake Federation Military Command. The city is home to about 5000 people.

Director William Snowe

"I said nothing about attacking, Snowe." Frank snapped. "If you think rationally for once, we might even avoid a conflict entirely." he fumed, probably sounding harsher than he should have been. "Like I said, the majority of the people of New Manhattan don't like Alex, they like me. Because I'm one of them, not some vault suit wearing clown." the Mayor continued speaking, lowering his voice slightly. "All we need to do is wait for one false move from him, and the townspeople are gonna go ballistic. If they call for some sort of election or something to get rid of him, we will be running the show. I promise you the spot of Arcadia's head."

William shook his head. "Impossible. I cannot show my hand without an assassination attempt by Scalatti or his loyalists. I will provide the means to carry out a plan...but everything else, you have to maintain."

He sighed and leaned forward. "But like I said...in order to do anything, I need the Tesla Coil built. If Scalatti finds out about how to shut off power to Antium, I won't be the one fighting in the dark...you will."

Mieux at his dinner, and wished Grandpa Grave a very sincere farewell. He took the elevator all the way to the top. It was deserted, no noise, aside from the soft air conditioning. Mieux took the hidden elevator to his private museum. He grabbed the last letter his would be wife left him, picked up several small trinkets, and packed them into a suitcase. He was sad to be leaving his beloved Corvega and old Anchorage combat armor behind. He didnt even bother concealing it back up. He entered the office, the master key to Arcadias Mainframe had been in his jacket the whole time, he stroked the back of the chair in his office lovingly and sat down, turning to the computer copying every single piece of data onto his special holodisk for when this day, if this day had ever come. At last, Mr. Utopia, who was doubling as the living AI of his mainframe now, asked in his suave male voice, "So boss, what are you doing? Seizing power?" Mieux sighed heavily, "No old friend, it appears some things are changing, but not you pal, you're coming with me, if you want." Mr. Utopia simply said in a sense of genuine loyalty, "You know I'll always be loyal to you boss." With that, Mieux clicked a few keys, and downloaded him onto the disk as well. With a quick few keystrokes. He entered one last snippet of code. 'New York City runoff power management directory- Arcanum 50% / Central Park 50%. New York City power directory, main power input location? Mid-Southern Manhattan Island- 100%, unroutable.' With those final keystrokes, he made it irreversable so that every settlement could only get that much from the old city grid, any attempt to divert Arcadias grid, the M-S MI grid, and the grid would go into an irreversable failure state.

He took a sip of scotch from the a glass he pulled out of the cabinet, putting it on the desk and next to a note.

'Dear Mr. Scalatti,

By now, you are likely furious that I have ultimately shifted power from your hands, but as it stands now, Arcadia is no longer controllable, The sentient AI on the Mainframe is all that is left on it, and it can only run the city in numbers, effectively making it the sole and only controller of the old New York City power grid. Anyone who isnt happy with that will have to deal with that. As for why I have commited this act of seeming treachery, but rather, this act of treachery was against Frank and William. As you read this, Frank has plotted against you, and personally, I do not care about your well being, but Arcadia, and thus, humanities progress. Alas my dear friend, you and I shall likely never cross paths. With that, I bid you farewell, and best of luck in the days to come.

Cordially,
Justin Mieux

Post Script- Send along my final farewells to that beautiful Lyn too.'

After writing his letter, he changed into a white suit with dark pinstripes and black tie, picked up his suitcase and put on his bowler hat, he gave the room below the second floor terrace a longing look, "Well dear home, for two hundred years and more, you've been my home, my world, and my sanctum. Alas, I fear now is when Babylon crumbles. Now is my time to flee this sinking ship." He turned and pressed the button to use the elevator and hit the lobby, his steel suitcase cuffed to his wrist. He noticed out of the corner of his eye Grandpa Grave looking curiously at Justin urgently walking out of the hotel, but not enough to follow him. Mieux walked across the courtyard and past the fountain in the center. He made his way to the Military Base/ Vertibird post. He flashed his ID and was permitted to the roof, Colonel Winston, a skilled pilot, stood waiting by the nearest Vertibird. "Are you ready to depart Mr. Mieux?" Mieux put on his aviator shades and said solemnly, "Yes, Colonel, Yes I think I am." The Colonel climbed into the cockpit, and when Mieux was sure the Colonel was out of earshot, Mieux looked at Arcadia gleaming in the sunset, a tear fell from his shades as he looked at it. "Goodbye Arcadia, you're the second most beautiful girl I've ever loved." He climbed into the Vertibird and fastened his seatbelt, he looked out the window sadly, and the Colonel, not wishing to impede in Mr. Mieuxs feelings, simply asked politely, "Where to sir?" Mieux said in a failed attempt at sounding cheery, "Ah, er, take me to Washington good man, I hear tale of a place called Tenpenny Tower, I knew it by another name back in my day, but either way, let's move out." He went back into his thoughts, wishing the city he hid in, lived in, rebuilt in, and loved in, good bye. He wondered if he would ever be welcome back, he knew war was likely to tear it apart, and he had no want for war, his only true ally Sutler having died, he didnt know what else to do. In his suitcase, he took personal souveniers of his life, every valuable piece of data on Arcadia, ensuring only he could ever control the city like that again, and the surrounding region powers, and fifty thousand caps to retire in private luxury.

OOC: In a vague sense I've retired from the RP, I'll still read it and etc., but as an actual character, I won't be around, however, if someone wants to make some trip to discuss something or whatever, PM me and I'll be glad to add in a new storyline for the RP.

Alexander Scalatti

The verti-bird touched down in Arcadia. Alex, John, and Ann walked into the hotel and took the elevator up to the penthouse. Once inside, Alex noticed a letter on his desk. He picked it up and read it.

Dear Mr.

Cordially,
Justin Mieux

Post Script- Send along my final farewells to that beautiful Lyn too.'

Alex ran over to the computers. There was nothing, everything was gone. He slammed his head on the wall. "No, no, NO!!!!!!"

"Whats wrong honey?" Ann asked, knowing that Alex was furious.

"That snake Meiux uploaded the entire mainframe onto a holodisk, and took it! Damn! I'm powerless! In addition, Frank and William are plotting against me! [censored]! My greatest day is my worst defeat!"

John walked over and took a look at the mainframe. Everything was gone. "No, you are NOT powerless, the Lake Federation officially acknowledges that you are the leader of Arcadia. We will protect you."

Ann sighed. Right when the Scalatti family was at its highest, it went right down to its lowest.

Alex looked over at John, "We need a display of power, send the marching band and play tunes right outside of Antium."

Marching Band

"One, two, three!" The conductor began to conduct. The marching band began to play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNID02byVV4&feature=related Several guards guarded the band that was playing right outside of the gate.

When that song was done, the band played the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xl_rljOB4AE&feature=fvst A large crowd had gathered around and was hurling insults.

Antium Defense

Nikov, now the head of Antium Defense, looked out at the marching band playing. He blinked his eyes twice and then looked back. Guarded heavily but not impenetrable, Antium was built to eliminate any attacking force...and technically the marching band was an attacking force. He sighed. "Did I have too much to drink again?"

One of the Antium Defense councilmen looked again at the screen. He shook his head. "No sir...there's a marching band right outside of Antium. Apparently the Federation wishes to show their power."

Nikov burst out laughing. "Ha! Show them our power...send in Lamina, our Walking Tank Unit."

Lamina was deployed. Using the Power Armour from Justin's donation to Antium and the previously existing software that was salvaged in the Robco database, the suits were recycled into new more powerful Advanced Power Armour. It looked the same but the fission battery was built to last nearly 10 years before needing to be replaced and Kevlar was woven into the powerful body chassis, for better bullet protection.

Only 10 suits existed in Antium. All ten were used in Lamina Squad.

Lamina marched towards the Noctem Gate, the gate on the other side of Antium, and circled around before going behind the marching band. Although the suits were powerful, they weren't exactly stealthy. The guards immediately noticed as Lamina opened fire with high powered http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/36/5064-04.jpg.

OOC: Oh [censored], wrong song, sorry.

Marching Band

It was over almost before it began. The walking tanks killed three guards, a trombonist, and a trumpeter. The rest of the band managed to escape.

Empire Radio

Hello, its me Todd. Sorry about the long hiatus. Antium shot me in the leg and destroyed my station, but I moved to Arcadia, and now I am the official DJ!!

I will put all them recent news in a nutshell.

1. Alexander Scalatti, that best man, became the leader of Arcadia after Meiux retired. I know he will do well, considering his experience running a huge caravan empire.

2. John Fairfield finked out and made a deal with William Snowe. What the [censored]? Why? Just launch an attack on the city and burn it to the damn ground! The Lake Federation has the soldiers to do it!

3. Just a few minutes ago, William, that commie son-of-a-[censored], attacked a harmless marching band full of innocent victims. This alone should be enough for the LF to attack.

I hope you enjoyed the news, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4iyXfTw8eo

Antium Defense

"General Nikov, we've got word of a possible attack on Antium. NSU agents in Arcadia and the Lake Federation have given to us some information that may indicate a single massive attack on Antium."

Nikov sighed. The marching band wasn't random then. It was to lower morale, and although it failed, it did make Antium out as the bad guys. "The first sign of a massive attack, Director Snowe and his council will be notified and an immediate first strike will be issued. Until then, keep the main satellite view on the Federation."

The Colonel shifted through his papers and looked up. "Sir...we also have word that Justin Mieux has left Arcadia. Where to, NSU agents haven't bothered to track him down but what we do know is that Alex cannot control anything. We have a constant...albeit less than expected, power stream to Antium."

"Good...good. Now remember to monitor the Federation."

Antium News Network

This is Antium News Network broadcasting LIVE from the courtyard of the Zodiac Tower. Antium Defense just released a statement today about the current state of the war and what the marching band was about.

"Antium Defense would like to assure the city that the marching band was a ploy from the Federation to lower morale. DO NOT ALLOW THAT! We are a powerful city and one of the superpowers of North Eastern America! SHOW THAT WE ARE!"

And there you have it. In related news, a possible nuclear launch may be possible. However, Antium Defense assures citizens that Antium DOES NOT have nuclear weapons beyond mini-nukes and the sort.

Lake Federation Military Command - The Pitt

The entire control room was in chaos. People were making calls, yelling, and running. Officers were yelling code language and coordinates, Generals were giving orders, and people were running back and forth.

General Horatio entered the room, "SHUT UP [censored]S!"

The entire room went silent. "Someone give me a sitrep! Jesus Christ!"

The head officer ran over top Horatio, the room began to pick up activity again, but not nearly as loud as before. "General, Antium has just attacked our Marching Band."

The General sat down, and looked at the man calmly. "Get Crosby, Fairfield, someone on the damn phone!"

Alexander Scalatti

"[censored], that snake attacked your marching band John!" Alex said in disbelief after hearing the report on the radio. Ann was reading a book on the couch, John was sitting right next to Alex on the mainframe.

"This mainframe is useless, we need a new program, get me a phone." Alex handed John a phone. He dialed some numbers.

"Hello, this is New York City operator, where do you want to call?" A robotic voice said.

"[censored]! [censored]!"

"[censored], [censored], is not in the database, try again."

"[censored] you, divert me to Pittsburgh please."

"Pittsburgh, you have no minutes, would you like to purchase a package."

"Add it to my phone bill."

After some talking, John hung up the phone. "A new mainframe program should arrive from the Lake Federation shortly. It will be jury rigged, but should last."

Alex sighed in relief.

OOC: Good post, but there are some problems that are easy to fix :D

1. Add some commas, proper word usage etc.

JB patched into underground lines wonders what he just listened to thinking he just over heard somthing he should have avoided while he has his pipboy tuned to other military coded transmissions

Should be,

JB patched into the underground lines. He wondered what he just listened to, thinking it was a private line. He turned off his pip boy and turned to other military coded transmissions.

JB .... i should stop now no good would come of this im not even on the job "he thinks to himself while continuing to be nosy

Should be,

I should stop now, no good will come of this, I'm not even on the job, he thought to himself while being nosy.

All thoughts should be in italics.

Lyn Grave

The deathclaw jogged towards New Manhattan, with Lyn and Senet on his shoulders. After a short while, Lyn tried to start up some conversation with Senet.

"You said you were from Canada, right? What was it like there?"

Senet Massri:

"Ehh....It was okay. The Deathclaws there had shaggy fur and all, they usually didn't shed until summer, then we got all our coats, blankets, and other stuff like that from them. These ones wouldn't survive in the cold up there. No fur." she smiled at the woman

"I lived near Saskatoon, ruins for miles, sometimes we went in, traded with the 'City Folk', but I never spent too much time there. Back then, there wasn't really much to my life, I worked in the fields outside Rapparport, I went to the city every weekend to trade for essentials for my family, and I went home. But when the Government came, the whole system was bugged up. The Government told us we had to rely on what they gave us, they killed the Deathclaws for 'Humanitarian' reasons. They burned our crops cause of a 'disease'." she looked at New Manhattan

"Reminds me of Saskatoon..." she said as the Deathclaw reached the home stretch

Frank Costello-His room:

Frank laid down on his bed and turned on a TV

"Thank god for Electricity!" he said, he knew there were only two channels: The New Yorker News, and The Arcadian Network, which had TV shows. He flicked on The Arcadian Network, and watched a old crime film

"Ahh the good old days!"

Lyn Grave

"Back where I came from, deathclaws had a shaggy mane. It wasn't as cold as Canada, but the winters were still harsh. The deathclaws back home were also capable of human speech. I have one of the deathclaws from there in my nest. Somehow, he made his way all the way back here. If you wanted to talk to a deathclaw, I could introduce you." Lyn stated. Lyn still needed to talk to the deathclaw as well. She didn't want one of her nest to hold a grudge against her.

Senet Massri:

"Thanks!" Senet said enthusiastically "I'd love to, i wish i had a better home to, don't tell Frank this, but he coulda alteast made something out of that apartment." she petted the deathclaws firm hide

"Man, this is hard! Must be for combat, looks like these ones adapted, back up north, the only thing stronger than a deathclaw was a 'Forest Monster'! Only hunters ever saw it though." Senet seemed like a naive little girl, as she was, thats how her personality was, a naive little girl. They arrived at the New Manhattan gate and hopped off. Senet walked over to Lyn

"Thanks for the ride, alot better than walking! Do you think I could sorta see your deathclaws?" she twirled with her black hair

Lyn Grave

"Sure you can. We might as well walk from here though. It isn't far." Lyn said as she waved for her to follow. She made her way around the walls, moving further north in direction. They were soon at the nest though. Roughly 80 deathclaws were in the nest. None of them paid any special attention to the two, except for the intelligent one. As soon as he could smell them, he made his way toward the two.

"You return, human. What busssinesss do you have here." The deathclaw hissed out.

Sutler lounged at ease in the comfort of his chair, the small but now familiar room had grown on him but it was nothing like his previous homes. He lit a cigar and puffed casually on it as he typed away on his terminal. Suddenly the telephone on his desk began to ring, with out taking his eye's from the flickering terminal, he reached out with his left hand and picked up the receiver.

"President Sutler here."

"Sir, Colonel Adams wishes to speak to you sir, he appears to have awoke."

Sutler raised an eyebrow, strange but he had almost missed the Colonel company, with no one to spar with his days just seemed an endless chore.

"Excellent, tell him to make his way here as soon as possible. Be Seeing You."

Sutler saved his report and turned of the terminal, pushing it aside to clear his desk, he took another puff on his cigar and, for goos measure, poured himself two drams of whiskey, waiting for Adams to arrive.

The Canadians retaliated against the incursion of NCR troops in their terriroty, this was the first time the Canadian Government authorized a draft since The Chinese War. Now, a fight over a Nuclear Reactor, long abandoned, rages.

Corporal Senet Massri of the Canadian National Army. Stationed in Fort Clover. TWO YEARS EARLIER

Senet stood at attention at Fort Clover, which was on a river, Senet loved the smell of the water in the early morning, but today, it wasn't the day. The NCR assaulted the Saskatoon Power Dam, they used tactics from back in 2281 that proved helpful, now they were entrenched in Saskatoon, holding the Western sector of the city. Senet's girly attitude went out the door in battle times, but in almost any other time, she was a little girl. Then, a NCR artillery strike took place, killing most of the men in Fort Clover, the remaining scrambled to the remaining boats. They crashed onto the ruined shores of Saskatoon, and saw mangled, dead, gory remains of NCR and Canadian soldiers. The CO, Colonel Henry Stevenson, ordered his battalion to attack a NCR fortification nicknamed "The Bear's Fort". The battalion soon hit the Fort with all they had, killing many NCR men, and loosing many of theirs. She never forgot that day.

OOC: Me too, buddy, me too. Good to be back, though! :D

“Thank you.” Adams slammed the phone back on its receiver. Bad move – it sent a sharp ringing through his head. He stood for a moment, hand on his aching forehead, and regained his balance. Much to Adams’ displeasure, migraines had kept him out of action and bed-bound for a good while. He’d suffered them before but never to this extent. Thankfully, the pain had lessened somewhat, and he was eager to return to his duty.

After downing a small glass of water, Adams approached the mirror. He was almost taken back by what he saw.
Christ! My face! What do I look like? Adams stroked the scraggily goatee now residing around his lips. Not a good look for me. The Colonel’s eyes were droopy and heavy sacks had formed around them. All colour had been drained from his face, leaving only a pasty ghost-like appearance. With a heavy sigh, Adams donned the black officer cap resting on his coat stand, wishing to conceal both his face and the unkempt mess called his hair. He took one more look in the mirror. Hmm, at least I’ve shed a few pounds, he barely managed a smile.

Buttoning up his signature trench coat, Adams exited his private quarters for the first time in weeks. His movements were slow and weak, but, coupled with his loss of weight, that was not enough to fool the soldiers patrolling the Poseidon Energy Bunker – they all acknowledged the Colonel with a strong salute. In return, Adams managed a nod – nothing more. Too much movement still hurt.

Adams arrived at Sutler’s quarters. A tiny grin appeared across his face – here we go again. He pushed the intercom.

“Permission to enter, Mr President?” Adams said in a groggy, strained tone. It was as if the words simply fell off his lips without control. Rubbing his dry eyes, Adams awaited Sutler’s response.

“Permission to enter, Mr President?”

Sutler smiled, "Of course Colonel." Sutler reached over, pressed a button on the console near his desk and the door slid open. There stood Colonel Adams, not quite as barrel-chested as he had been when he last stood in that doorway; hopefully less arrogant and demanding too, Sutler thought with a welcome twindge of satisfaction, at last things were getting back to normal.

"Good day Colonel," Sutler said, his unusual good humour being camoflauged again beneath a gruff voice. "Please take a seat, you look as though you need it." Sutler shook his head and smiled to himself. "Under the lights with your skin as white as it is... we could be back aboard the Oil Rig; ah well. It doesn't do to, to wallow in sorrow, as it where, when we should be on the up-and-up! Welcome back to the game Colonel, now I suppose you want me to fill you in on what's been going on? First of all, do you have any questions that you wish to ask me? I assume the good Secretary Whittaker Ph.D filled you in on the time, date etc?"
