New Modders to Modders Forum on Nexus

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:21 pm

DarkOne has created a new forum on the Nexus forums for mod authors. Basically if your mods have 1000 or more unique downloads in total (sum of all your mods), you will have access to a http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/forum/375-mod-authors/ where you can discuss things with fellow mod authors.

Also, in case you haven't heard, the negative endorsemant system will be removed in about a month.

I think DarkOne has been listening and this is a really nice idea.

Sounds like a cool idea.

While I'm generally happy to see negative endorsemants removed (since, IMO, most of them were not appropriate and they were not given when appropriate), will there still be a way to say that there is something wrong/negative with the mod? Answered elsewhere.

While you're listening, any chance at getting some sort of size limit for signature images in place? :P

I use the comments for that. Basically if I have any skepticism that the mod might have issues I just read through the comments and see if anyone's complained. And since problems cause people to comment a lot more than something working properly does, you can pretty much bet that if there's something wrong with the mod it will have been reported. Since I find this to be a pretty good method to determine a mod's flaws I think it's a good idea they're getting rid of negative endorsemants, which only serve to frustrate mod authors and don't by themselves say anything about what might be wrong with the mod.

EDIT: Haha wow striked through between my reading the comment and hitting reply lol

I think that's a terrific idea. I'm a little bummed about the 1000 unique requirement, cause with my one mod, I probably won't make that until August, if at all. But then again, I've managed to figure out most everything anyway, and it's doubtful I'll have time to create any new ones. So if this is targeted at the hardcoe modders, then I guess the 1000 requirement makes sense. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Perhaps a newbie modders forum for beginners?

What is a unique download as opposed to just any old download?

A download from a unique individual user. Someone downloading the same file multiple times won't add any unique downloads but it will add standard downloads.

Don't forget it's the total for all your mods. So if you have a couple of mods, it's only 500 unique dl's for each.

You might also want to put a link to your mods in your sig - that's helps with exposure :D

Guess I don't make the cut. It's just like high school all over again...another popularity contest!

Do I get bonus points for creating custom creatures and total conversions, or should I focus on making hot babes? :hubbahubba:

 Well the hot babes would probably get you more downloads, especially if you included armour. :D

I think it's a good idea for modders that mainly use the Nexus forums. The gamesas mod forums and TESA are good enough for me right now, as they basically fullfilled that need already.

D'oh! It's so bleeding obvious. Good thing the sig updates everywhere! Thanks for the tip. I can script like a demon, but still working on my publicity skills.

Seconded. :foodndrink: Mainly as I'm not sure how I feel about creating a forum for modders...but only modders who are 'good enough' to join. Seems a bit elitist to me but as you say, we have gamesas and TESA as well. :goodjob:

GREAT idea removing the negative comments DarkOne. :celebration:

I also said that on 'Welcome' thread.

It's not like that and I don't think it's elitist at all. If you upload few mods on Nexus, you'll get 500 downloads in no time.

LOL I did and have and have plenty more than the required number of downloads with my and Da Mage's "Lost Sword of the Ayleids" on Nexus. :lmao: I meant that in the sense that not all modders make mods that garner loads of downloads. Hell even I had a couple houses on Nexus that never broke a hundred after near a year. So yeah, there will be some modders left out. I'm not saying it's wrong, per se, I just don't like the idea and I'm an opinionated pain the [I got censored] as you well know Wash.

Well, I don't think it's elitist either. With over two million members, it's good to have a place for modders to hang out and I kinda understand the requirements as it's probably not a good idea to automatically be allowed on there for each person that uploads a mod to Nexus. There's of course the problem WhoGuru mentioned about modding teams, but I'm sure DarkOne can adress such a thing in the future.

I'm sure you do. :) I meant to say 'if one uploads...' not you directly, just a little confusion in translation.

You're not a pain in the ass! :) I'm just saying it isn't elitist seeing that the criteria is not high.
