New To Modding, Have a Question.

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 7:47 am

I'm new to modding. I've gotten my fair share of level design and scripting from HPL/Source. Decided it is time for me to jump in. My question is this. The one thing that bothers me about skyrim is that there seem to be many things associated with certain skills that level them. Smithing seems to be the odd man out. I'd like to make a mod/plugin that causes smelting, mining, and tanning hides increase the smithing perk. Not by much, but enough so that you can tell the difference. Is that something I'd make through the creation kit? And if so, could someone possibly point me in the right direction? Treat me like I'm new, I'm not familiar with Bethesda's authoring tools yet. Thanks in advanced for a reply.

Welcome to the forums! Check the Creation Kit forum for links to video tutorials - it's also the appropriate thread for Creation Kit questions. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16084/? is a mod that already does what you're after, so that might be a good place to start for pointers on how to do it.

Arkngt X is right http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/3217-relz-ars-metallica-smithing-enhancement/ is a good mod to start with, but there is other mods out there that also allow you to do some smithing and one of those mods is http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11163.

Here is more links to http://www.creationkit.com/ and I recommend to read the tutorials there or you can http://tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/4655-introduction-creation-kit-basics/ there is on http://tesalliance.org/forums/. :tes:

Before or after learning the technicals of how to create various parts of a mod, you can also look through and read about the many already available and play with them. When you see something that gives you ideas, you can then see how they did it. Of course, you can just open the Bethesda ESMs into the CK and see how they did many things as well.

When it comes to learning the tools of the trade, I am a firm believer in "monkey see, monkey do" (or just "borrowing" from what others have already created). :D
