new mods wont appear in data files?

Post » Sat Dec 21, 2013 5:47 pm

hey so i just got the geck and i made my first weapons mod saved and it when i try to activate it by opening the launcher and hitting data files, the mod isnt there. i tried saving it to a few different names and whenever i try to activate it, it never appears, other mods that i downloaded do but not the ones i made, and yes i am saving them into data which is the only place you actually can save them. can someone please help me fix this, i cant use nexus mod manager since when i try to open fallout nv with it it just says it cant write permissions....if someone can help that would be much appreciated

Is New Vegas installed in Program Files (either one)?

And, just to make sure, your using the New Vegas GECK and not the Fallout 3 one?

Try this, grab an ESP only mod (that has no archives, just the mod file) and manually plop that into your Data Files folder (it does not matter what it is, your not going to use it in game). See if it shows up in the Launcher.

I think what you ultimately have to do is tell NMM to monitor your manual install, although that should not be necessary to see the mod, just so you can uninstall it later. I don't use NMM, I use FOMM.

Don't use Data Files to manage mods as it isn't robust enough. Use a mod manager. I strongly advise using Wrye Flash NV and NMM (Wrye Flash NV to manage mods and NMM to launch the game).

Use NVSE for launching via NMM. Most mods need it, anyway. Be sure to update to the latest NMM due to the recent troubles with older versions and the Nexus servers.

You should see all your .esps in both Flash and NMM.

If it's not showing up the launcher, it probably won't show up in the mod manager.
