Ive been avoiding this thread.....
....I dunno. Im not totally against it, but after seeing a mountable rat above....I just dont know what to think anymore. My whole perception of reality has been shattered. I no longer know what makes sense. Its all just chaos.
I think that they should focus on moutable horses....considering they have yet to confirm those Its hard for me to imagine there being anything else in addition. And I would much rather see horses as mounts BEFORE any of these ideas. Just saying.
Edit* OMFG. There is a mountable slaughterfish also?!?!?!?!?! :dead:
Well isn't thats great thats we can create all what comes to mind and put it into game and at the same time ignore and not install thats what put our mind in chaos?
Just leave base for modding an possibility to expand game features all other the will do by self, Oblivion add ridable horse type thats was handled well by hardcoded engine logic, such features hard to script and add by modders, I remember how it was in Morrowind in Pegas Horse Ranch mod just ad an ridable creature, with scripting: there was trigonometric calculation of position in world so horseman will be send to be at horse in thats space, force equip special saddle for lower body, AI change for custom horse creature model completely with custom animations mesh and textures and sound.
Thats was really hard and large work.
DLC and modders, is all I have to say about this. There's no chance in hell that fantastic mounts will ever be ridable in a TES game, because riding in general is fairly redundant. It's a curiosity of gameplay, something that might look cool and is great for roleplay. But unless you'll be able to do mounted combat, mounts bear very little gameplay value (interaction-wise).
No need fantastic mounts just well done Horses need as base all other can be expanded by mods, even mounted combat can be done

Also, don't forget that making the horses ridable can potentially result in less gamesales, provided that (1) it turns out to be a bad feature and (2) critics points that out too much to the public. TES has never been about horseriding specifically, it's pretty much the same as the Diablo series in terms of world design and how that flows through the gameplay experience. In Diablo it's because the game is linear. In TES games it's because of fast travel (either instant or through services).
It's rarely about what's possible or not, it's about what's prudent and relevant.
Horses riding done even at the same level as in Oblivion add variability to game, using fast travel as main feature turn game into Progress Quest.
Having features as horse riding will rise sales as well, since TES open world game and many player like to travel, Skyrim will have great Nature thats features handcrafted unique landscapes why need hide them behind dull Fast Travel menu?
Ride your horse and travel, enjoy great work of game designers.
