New Mystery Pics Thread #6

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2010 5:48 am

The following thumbnail pics were found on www.elderscrolls.com

Luke Skyrimmer discovered the first one and Inglar did some crafty detective work to find the other pics.

Can you figure out what they are?

Pic #1 and Pic #2 appear to be screens of the same creature or humanoid, with a helmet on and without the helmet, although the subjects could be entirely different.

Fiore1300 makes a very convincing argument that the helmet is an updated version of the http://members.shaw.ca/rado907/armor/light/mor-glassarmor.jpg

Others have proposed that it is a crustacean-inspired helmet for servants of Hermaeus Mora.

Pic #4 could be a room in a dungeon, some have suggested it is part of Alduin's Wall, and Goth Observationist astutely noted that it greatly resembles http://pnmedia.gamespy.com/screenshots/pes/31408182.jpg?__sf=1303526026

Pic #5 appears to be a Giant

Heres pick 2: http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd115/starclaps/thumb2_720.jpg

Let me explain my process, and what I encountered.

- The skin on the original's hunched back, matched almost identically with the color of pic 1. They were the same on my pallette. The reason pic 2's face wasnt is because it is in light.

- Pic 2, when i was darkening shadows and wrinkles, shows that it has the same ear-rivets on the inner part of the ear as pic 1 did.

- In addition to the hair, there seems to be small bits of hairy-green (almost like grass) in patches on the figure, i brought them out a bit.

- Upon closer inspection of pic 2, i noticed that the nostrils stream down VERY close to the mouth, and i think that in pic 1 i either mistook the nostrils to be connected to the mouth, or the artist was trying out different upper-lip methods. After all, pic 2 IS an i-depth face study of pic 1 (since in pic 1, the only thing that is covered is the face, and would be the only thing needing additional information for modelers to put it in-game)

Latest Update on speculation:

Quotes from VSIONS:

Thread #2 well, I must say, one of you is very clever

could this be a reference to Lady Nerevar's Falmer suggestion? Danger Dan's scamp suggestion?

Thread #2 well its been fun, but I have to go work on a certain elven race before I call it a night..... no relation to this thread by the way, just wanted to throw another little bit of turmoil out there.
Maybe I will return when this reaches a third thread.

Thread #3 wow this has really grown. hmmm, quite a few good guesses in these threads... but alas there can be only one. Some really clever people in here though

Thread #4

ding ding ding, we have a winner folks!

Thread #4 still growing huh? Right from the very beggining there was some interesting speculation. By the way you guys have a very impressive grasp of the lore.

hmm...Lady Nerevar seems to have an impressive grasp of the lore

leading theories [possible]
- Falmer
- daedra servant of Hermaeus Mora, ancient Atmoran demon who nearly seduced the Nords into becoming Aldmer (possibly wearing a lobster on his face)
- undead Falmer
- Scamp or Goblin wearing daedric armor

other possibilities [possible]
- Cowl or Spider Cowl
- Lich
- Ice Vampire
- some humanoid with a cool scorpion/lobster helmet (would mean that thumb1 and thumb2 are not the same subject)
- some other sort of vampire (not Ice)
- Riekling
- Ice Demon from Akavir
- undead Bosmer or Dunmer

theories initially espoused by several people [ruled out]
- no Argonian
- no goblin
- no "spider hero"

theories that seem unlikely after group discussion due to certain details of the image [ruled out]
- Atronach
- wood elf
- Dragon Priest
- Dwemer (several people said this is unlikely)

comic relief [ruled out]
- Old Lady's husband from http://image.jeuxvideo.com/images/pc/t/h/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-pc-1303134798-031.jpg?__sf=1303450170
- Gary Busey
- orc's grandmother
- Todd Howard
- Skyrim Deathclaw

Your thoughts? What can we rule out? Any new ideas?

I initially thought it was a Dragon Priest, because the articles describe them as ghostly and it seemed like a cool idea:

* A dungeon described as "Bleak Falls Barrow" is inhabited by Draugr--undead Nord warriors. Players can expect to encounter a ghostly dragon priest and fight a giant Frostbite Spider. The dungeon has been described by Bethesda as "terrifying."

However, as Lady Nerevar pointed out, the http://cms.elderscrolls.com/sites/default/files/tes/screenshots/DraugrGroup_wLegal.jpg?__sf=1303496830

The Dragon priests were also once Nords, so it seems odd that they would suddenly grow huge ears after becoming undead. And the lack of a beard is somewhat inconsistent with Draugr.

I would say it's a scamp or other lesser Daedra.

I think it is a undead wood elf.
