New Nintendo console

Post » Thu Jan 13, 2011 2:23 am

The Wii only has 88MB of RAM. The 360 and PS3 both have 512MB. You're probably thinking of the Wii's 512MB of flash storage.

Oh, Well, that's probably what I was thinking of, then. I was just trying to remember something an article I read mentioned - I didn't actually go look up and research the hardware specs. >.<; My bad.

but, wow, 88MB ram? seriously? That's, like... you couldn't even run Morrowind on that, could you?

Only 5 years? Computers get new hardware every year or so, and plus, the Wii is very much behind the PS3 and 360 in terms of power.

Nintendo is doing this to stay ahead, and I applaud them (as much as I hate Nintendo).

Why hate Nintendo? They're one of the main reasons games came through after the crash of 1983, and one of the reasons they are so popular today. I'm not much of a fan of new Mario games or anything, but I don't hate them when they're one of the reasons it's possible to play other games today.

I'll probably get it eventually, since Nintendo makes most of the games I like.

I saw this on the news this morning. Maybe this will usher in the new Xbox and Playstation platforms?

Doubt it. As far as statements from the companies go, any idea for a new console from either of them are a lock until 2014 or later. I am interested. I would really like this one to at least support 720p out of the box. We are in the era of HD. While I know that not everyone has jumped on board with this yet, many have. The fact that there are only HDTV's in my house nowadays tells me that they need to up their game in terms of graphics this time around.

If it would be Directx11 graphical and etc etc etc, nintendo would make zillions. But nintendo has never made anything with good graphics, so I highly doubt this one will either.

They've definitely fallen since the NES/SNES/Gameboy days.

Directx is proprietary Microsoft technology. And graphics aren't everything, proven by the PS2 dominating last gen.

The only thing i am wondering is if they are going to put in processing power tht can actually compete, as opposed to continuing the [censored] of 20+ y/o IPs under the veil of rose colored glasses.

I agree witht he aricle linked in the OP.. give some new ,exciting (maybe even grown up feeling?) games

More like, "They're doing this to keep up." When was the last time any of us heard anything about the Wii not counting E3?

*sigh* as much as i love nintendo, i only have about 6 games on the wii (bought it at launch) and i use it to play my gamecube games. the ONLY way i can justify buying one is if its at or below 300, im guaranteed 15 or so solid titles and full backwards compatibility of gamecube and wii games. I hope they cut the kiddie crap because it got old. how many cooking sim carbon copies do you need?

I hope it is going to be better then the wii. and the good part for Nintendo is that sony has been set back because of the hazards of japan, so they are going to have zero competition for a while. Major bucks in the bank for nintendo!

Only one game on the wii that I have and that is unplayed ... Might change if a few games are announced but I doubt it.

Somewhat funny how most gamers want something new in games but actually want the same old [censored]

Yeah, I had to look that up myself. I knew it was less than the PS3 and 360, but 88MB is much lower than I expected. I would think it'd be able to run Morrowind though if the original Xbox could, they are pretty comparable in power.

I'll definitely wait to see what kind of games get released for it. Rushing to buy a Wii was a bad idea. About the only thing worth a crap on it are the first party games (of course) and the virtual console, of which I only have a few games on.

If the controllers for the new console do indeed have those screens on them, they will be freaking EXPENSIVE. Definitely don't rage and throw one, because you'll be paying out your ass to buy a new one.

I respect Nintendo, but I don't like the way they operate. I felt the sting of a poor library of third party titles back during the Gamecube days and it's that poor library that made me switch to the Xbox 360 when the new generation started. I felt that sting again with the Wii, but vicariously through my brother who barely played the thing because all of the games he wanted were on the Xbox 360. While I'm definitely interested in what this new console will be like and the ramifications it will have in the gaming community, I have zero interest in actually buying one, and wont have any until it's shown that Nintendo has improved in things like third party support, something they've at least said they're working on doing.

My biggest fear is now Microsoft and Sony will be forced to come up with Next gen consoles when they probably aren't ready for them, not to mention that there is a lot invested in both the 360 and the PS3. I see a situation occuring like what happened with the PS2 when the PS3 1st came out. The Transition wasn't smooth at all.

The implication was that Sony was adversely affected, yet Nintendo was not. Nintendo is a Japanese company, and thus, was affected.

Is that a touch screen on the controller? In my opinion that seems pretty gimmicky..

I'm a definitely keep my eye on this console. I really hope they have a feature like Xbox 360's game development program.

Wait, your talkinga bout the Kinect?

If you are, it was a huge success. For a while alota retailers could not meet the demands of keeping it in stock.

No I ment with Microsoft promising that 360 will have an HD disc drive but since the released the 360 early to beat Sony to the puch, it was a regular DVD and that is why the lost the Blu ray war. Also paying an extra $200 for the HD disc drive 2 years later and not built in? No thank you that was a big joke.

I agree the Kinect is a big success and it must be driving Sony mad because you hear about the Kinect in the News but nothing about The Move.
