It might be called the "stream" opinions?

Wii. Stream. Must. Resist.

They better not pull another 3DS and dump compatibility again after one generation. But it's good that they finally join this generation. :shifty:

I heard about this earlier today. I'm not liking the touch screen controller and that to me is the problem with Nintendo. They focus too much on "Oh that looks so cool or you can do motion crap" instead of making good games. Besides Zelda, Mario (Any versions whether it's just mario or kart) or Super Smash Bros is there any good games on the Wii because none come to mind besides Nintendo inhouse products. Not to mention that they'll overprice the product when it's released. This new console should be 200 to start and I don't see a need to go higher then that.

My biggest fear is now Microsoft and Sony will be forced to come up with Next gen consoles when they probably aren't ready for them, not to mention that there is a lot invested in both the 360 and the PS3. I see a situation occuring like what happened with the PS2 when the PS3 1st came out. The Transition wasn't smooth at all.

Already? This is what i hate about companies. The Wii is still selling well (not as well since the PS3 price drop) yet they release a new console to make more money.

I saw this on the news this morning. Maybe this will usher in the new Xbox and Playstation platforms?

I won't buy it. Between my fierce Sony loyalty and a fierce hatred for platformers, I would rather stick with my PS3.

Hmmm. I've always loved Nintendo consoles, but I couldn't get into the Wii that much. The motion control was alright, but it never caught on with me, so I'll be interested to see what direction they take it with a touch screen controller (if the rumor holds true). I'm starting to think of some implications (less of an intrusive menu on the tv screen and have it on the controller for on the fly equipment/ability changes?).

I guess we'll see.

Really? What exactly do you not like about them releasing a new console to make money?

Yeah! It's only been 5 years! 6 by the time it actually releases! [censored] capitalists, eh.

Believe it or not, but we've reached that point in time when Microsoft and Sony were making their new consoles readily available to the public.

Its the only way for our games to evolve technology wise. These aren't a few changes like an i-pad or i-phone. Look at the difference between games from previous console cycles.

Nintendo pretty far behind in terms of rendering hardware too..I'm sure they'll really step it up.

Only 5 years? Computers get new hardware every year or so, and plus, the Wii is very much behind the PS3 and 360 in terms of power.

Nintendo is doing this to stay ahead, and I applaud them (as much as I hate Nintendo).

Then you must despise car companies. Releasing new models of every car each year regardless of sales.

It's what they have to do to stay current. If nobody released anything, we (technology) would stay stagnant.

Oh noes not another boring Nintendo console. I'll give it the pass like the 3DS. Give it a year after its out, see what kind of games there are on it.

Edit
I swear to god, if Monster Hunter doesn't leave the system and Nintendo doesn't do some serious work on their online capabilities then I'm going to have to ditch the series on console once more.

I was actually joking, 5 years is quite a long time - though I question the logic of releasing something only as powerful as the current consoles in 2011, hopefully that bit will remain just a rumour.

I knew this would happen. It'll definitely screw Microsoft & Sony because they're just starting to sell their new motion devices.

its about freaking time! how many different DS systems have they put out on the market while basically doing nothing with the wii?

5? ...6?

I think the only reason I'd think about getting the "Stream" is if Skyward Sword is a launch title.

Read about this in the Wall Street Journal several month ago - there was an article on Nintendo, probably on the 3DS reveal/release, and let slip was confirmation of a new version of the console coming out this year. So, no surprise to me.

Rumors are that it will have a touch screen, which makes no sense to me. Common complaints about the Wii seems to be its lack of HD and small RAM (512MB!), and possibly lack of internal harddrive. I dunno, I never play on the thing, it doesn't have any games I like.

Meh, I'll stick with PC gaming. Unless, of course, this new console actually has games that interest me.

Well it's Sonys fault the transition wasn't smooth. Same for the 360, it was Microsofts fault for the rushed release. If it happens again it's no one elses fault but thier own.

*edit* Even if Nintendo comes out in 2012, I swear it will still be thought of as a kids console. Unless it has a large hard drive with the bells and whilstles for HD TVs I will not be able to take it serisoulsy and why would I want it, I already have an 360 and PS3 so will not need it.

If I want a touch screen controller, my son already has a Gameboy DS so why would I want that? Too gimicky.

It's supposed to be "significantly" more powerful than the 360 and PS3. I'd expect it to be a good bit better than the two of them, but clearly the next Sony and Microsoft consoles will be much better again too.

Rumors are that it will have a touch screen, which makes no sense to me. Common complaints about the Wii seems to be its lack of HD and small RAM (512MB!), and possibly lack of internal harddrive. I dunno, I never play on the thing, it doesn't have any games I like.

The Wii only has 88MB of RAM. The 360 and PS3 both have 512MB. You're probably thinking of the Wii's 512MB of flash storage.

Wii sales have been on the decline for some time now, there's no chance that third-party support will improve and self-proclaimed "hardcoe" gamers aren't going to suddenly take an interest in the system, which is about its only untapped market at this point. It's time to move on, start over with a clean slate.

Anywho, I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping that everything comes together for 'em this time around, including a decent third-party presence. The controller, so long as it has all of the rumored buttons (including two sticks), is something I can get behind. I hate touchscreens when they're the only control scheme (iOS devices), but there are a number of things I imagine it'd be useful for.

I'd like to see Nintendo taken seriously again, as they've always made top notch games and hardware.

People are saying that Nintendo is doing this to "stay ahead", but they will still be behind with this "new" console.

I'm a definitely keep my eye on this console. I really hope they have a feature like Xbox 360's game development program.

Wait, your talkinga bout the Kinect?

If you are, it was a huge success. For a while alota retailers could not meet the demands of keeping it in stock.

Looks cool, but I think the screen in controller thing is a bit of a step back from the Wii.
