new NPCs all broken

I was meesing around in game when i went to an area with some npcs i made when i found that some of thier colours didn't work (eg an african american is albino) this only seems to happen when using the character's unset body (when i used a template body from an origional FO3 character my npc shows up like the template).

another problem i found was when i loaded a few different moddels into a gutsy robot (RL-3) it seemed to mess up the gutsy/handy body animations, so i also can't make new gusty or handy robots.

Just as strange was when i made a new race and for some reason found a huge list of NPCs had taken on the new race (though i haven't seen any in game yet) (this has happened in another esp as well).

are these things fixable?

Try to have a look at http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1120520-custom-npc-faces-and-skin-color/ - just a wee bit below your own ;)

This is not my area of expertise, but could it be a problem with the skeleton of the robot?

Well, that certainly is weird. Are you sure that you actually added a new race and started editing that particular race? I have seen a few race mods copying a race and then editing the vanilla race instead of the copy ...

Are you using 'non-gutsy' robot parts?
Also, you might want to 'copy' a gutsy robot so it brings over all the correct animation groups in the 'tab' for them. Then make your changes to your copy.

i found i can copy a gutsy or handy and it seems to work. as for RL-3 i'm not sure because when it happened i chose to turn him into a custom sentury bot and now prefur him like that.

when i was looking around the forum i found something about turning .esp into .esm, the strange thing is that i have other mods in progress which don't have this problem, i wonder if it could be a save corruption problem with the G.E.C.K.?

i think the race problem occured when i made a new race instead of copying a default race.

thanks for helping!

Are these NPCs levelled by any chance? In that case, the NPC inherits its race from a range of base NPCs - in other words it can take on any of the races of the base NPCs. Since there is no single race, the GECK greys-out the race field and fills it with a default value. I have a new race in my mod, and for some reason the GECK chooses to use that as its default value, and that may be what you are seeing too. It doesn't mean anything, the NPC still only takes the races of the base characters.

The geck always lists a bunch of people in new races until you've made one or two custom NPCs in that race, have saved the esp, and have restarted the geck.... then only your custom ones will show. Those fake listings can happen with both new races and copied races, but it's only a geck display thing as the NPCs listed are not actually assigned to the new race (open them to verify). I think the geck just needs some names present to complete the new race form.

It's a bug introduced with the last update for the game that never got fixed, and it goes hand-in-hand with 2 other NPC skin display issues. The fixes for all 3 are setting the npc to 'can be all races', setting the bLoadEGMfacegenFile (can't remeber exactly what it's name is) to true in the fallout.ini, and converting esp's that use custom npc skin tones to .esm.
Sorry, I'd look that one up for you but I don't have the game installed... I need the harddrive space because New Vegas is released tomorrow !
