My advice is to just play the game! I believe that the game is much funner if you DON'T know the outcome of every quest, where every artifact is etc. If you run into any glitches, problems, or just have an awesome story you want to share with us, then post in the forum! http://i460.photobucket.com/albums/qq328/PaulSouthron/Fishy%20Sticks/fishystickcf7.jpg

I would caution against reading the UESP on your first, or even second playthrough. Why spoil the whole game for you? Just start a character and play with it for several levels, if he svcks, reroll. It's very much like FO3 in terms of how things play, so you will be pretty comfortable with that. The only thing that is different really, is the magic system. Ask questions here in General, and we will try to help you out. Otherwise, welcome to the best game ever. Multiple roleplays and characters are quite possible, as there are a seemingly infinite amount of ways to create and play a character. If it gets overwhelming, come here, instead of the uesp, for as little spoilers as possible.

I second that, I wanted to post the same: just play the game, don't read guides and walkthroughs, best experience is when you play the game for a first time, when you know almost nothing about the game and the world. Don't bother with making uber characters or power-levelling. Enjoy the game!

just make sure u level pretty even. before i level up i make sure i improve a skill for 3 different attributes 10 times. that way i get pluz 5's so i top off my attributes as soon as possible. then that lets me put my luck up as far as i can. other then that nah..nothing really just enjoy teh game.

You're right, guys. It is the most fun to just play the game and find out things for yourself, yet the UESP does have some decent information for new players, which is not spoiling anything. But I guess the manual does an ok job at that, too. I'm talking about how magic works, what does calm do or frenzy? How the lvl'ing and skill/attribute system works and so on. Stuff like that is, imo, quite useful to know as a new player.

But else, just play the game and get caught up in the fantastic universe.

The few good tips i got are :

1. Don't listen to others just play the game the way you want or end up playing. Don't let someone tell you how to make it easier or harder!
2. IF your on PC mods will be a fun thing to use if you find them useful.
3. Be prepared to waste a few weeks of pure oblivion gameplay! I remember first palying it i didn't even remember to check my phone or go outside for 3 days haha. (i eventually did though :celebration: )

It's a great game!

I did this for Morrowind and then toned it a bit down for Oblivion. I spent an entire summer, 3 months indoors playing Morrowind. I went back to school and I was really pale.

Well, Calm will stop an enemy from attacking until you attack them or the time on the spell/enchantment wears off, while frenzy does almost the exact opposite, where they will attack anyone, even allies.

If you're having trouble, turn down the difficulty, the level scaling of oblivion makes it so that every creature, quest and item levels up with you. Therefore if you level up too quickly, like I often do, it will make you weaker relative to your enemies, so just turn down the difficulty if need be. Most importantly, do WHATEVER YOU WANT, whether it be dungeon diving, random quests, DLC, factions, main quest or just exploring Cyrodil. You will have fun, regardless of how you choose to play.

As for a few little things, if a guard or other normally friendly NPC is attacking you, you can yield to them by holding "block" and pressing the "interact" button (I know its A on xbox but not sure about anything else). Speaking of guards, Oblivion guards are infamously telepathic. Save a decent amount. Its obvious when something is illegal (like stealing or trespassing) and stolen goods can only be sold to fences in the thieves guild that is rumored to exist. If you find a silver or enchanted weapon keep it at least as a backup because some creatures, such as ghosts, are immune to normal weapons (non silver/unenchanted/non daedric). If you find yourself doing little damage with a weapon it may be because your fatigue, the green bar below magicka, is low. If you dungeon dive you will find many Welkynd Stones and Varla Stones, and it is probably a good idea to keep them. Welkynd Stones instantly restore all your magicka when consumed, and Varla Stones instantly recharge all enchanted weapons in your inventory when used. Good luck, hope you enjoy it.

Main piece of advice I can give is keep mutliple saves of the same character and make backup copies of your saves once in a while.
