New patch out

Post » Thu Jul 15, 2010 12:02 pm

(maybe there is no new patch as some people are reportign they did not get a download prompt. I've played every day since release, had the previous patch, and got a prompt to download an update this morning. Maybe that is just more Xbox Live related screwyness)
Corrupt saves still corrupt, in fact it will hard lock the Xbox if you try to load a previous corrupt save file after you get the missing DLC message. Before it would eventualy take you to back to the title screen.

Anyone who actually thought a patch could repair corrupted files was living in a fantasy world.

Being a software developer and having some insight of how things work, this is not entirely true. We do not know if in fact the save games are "corrupted". They are unusable, but perhaps not permanently damaged.

The reason why they're unusable could be something to do with the players inventory or something. The whole DLC loading message may just be a matter of correcting this inventory error, or resetting something in the save game file that indicates current quest progress etc to a safe value... I'm just thinking positively and technically here that maybe the error we're experiencing when loading our save games isn't that the data stored in those save games is completely destroyed, just bugged - which hopefully can be fixed.

I would be happy if it just didn't happen again. I could live with having to replay a couple of hours. My last 5 saves are corrupt. All those after finishing fly with me quest. My last save before that quest still loads.

Any ideas which issues this patch is related to?

Same here, the assurance that it would not happen again is what I want if I can't get my saves back.

What scares me is the complexity of the game, with so many things going on I'm not sure they're going to be having an easy time finding the root of the issue.

Think about this, the good thing is that this is happening on a wide group of users. As a developer, if I know an issue is not just limited to a single case I know the chances of me running into it, tracking it down and solving it are increased. This is what's on their side. The scary part is this software is so vast and each player can have a completely unique setup (character, inventory, perks, quest progress, reputation level, karma, world altering decisions made) they've got about a billion variables to sift through.

While the frequency of the occurrence is large (as we can see from the forums) the testing/debugging is likely an absolute monster. I do not want to be in their shoes.

Then again, I could be completely off and this could be super simple. Occam's Razor.

Is this a new, new patch and not the one released on the 22.10.10? Just there is no post from anyone on the stickied threads above this forum.

There is a pinned post about it on the general Fallout New Vegas forum

As you may have seen, we released a patch over Steam for PC users last night. While we didn’t release a full changelist, the patch contains quest and scripting fixes. It’s not a minor hotfix, it contains over 200 fixes in all. We are in the final stages of testing this update on both 360 and PS3 and we hope to have them out to users very soon.

This update is now available for PS3, 360, and PC.

I thought that was the first patch, released on the 22nd? No save-bug patch?

I just turned on the game... no patch for the xbox.. Since that last message is dated Oct 21st it can't be about a new patch.

Having put 27 hours in to this game and enjoying every minute, I am very frustrated and annoyed at getting this bug. There's no finger pointing or blaming people but I think this bug is ridiculous. I don't have the effort to play another 27 hours in the same way that I did and hope largely that this issue can be solved.

all the update to the post was referring to was the fact that the 1st patch that PC Users received the 200 quest/scripting fixes was available on the 360 and PS3 now. PC has received a 2nd update that was to address the save issues though looking at their forums it might not be completely working.

Oh I see now. I thought it was referring to a second patch. My bad.

So what is this thread even about? There isn't a new update out for 360?

See where I said "this part is quoted" and "this part was posted yesterday, 10/26"?

Go to the general forum and read it for yourself, it is a reply to the first pinned post. Yesterday.

So is it safe for me to actually START playing this game now? What patch number is it?

EDIT - Just read your above post Pierce. I take it I should still wait it out before I boot up?

I have to agree with Land of the Dead guy....
a patch would never fix your save file, forget it. Start over, do not install the cr*p DLC you got and get the patch...I think there have been 2 patches as of today...we are waiting on number 3...

I got excited when I saw this thread and I also got confused by a new Jason Bergman reply to a pinned topic on the general forum.

Then I started up the game and wasn't prompted to update...

What gives? What are we discussing in this thread if there is no 2nd update?

This whole thing is absolute crap. None of this should even be happening, and if the solution from Obs is to start over and cry about it... I won't be playing. Sorry, but that's just really poor everything.

This is what I'd like to know. PS3 got a patch 1.01, is that a new one after the one released on the 22.10.10? I'd like to know if it is ok to start playing.

Well I started up the game and didn't get a new update so as far as I know Tyrannical was either confused or lying. The only update was the one on the 22nd and there is no "new" one that is supposed to fix the DLC glitch yet. I'm going to syop posting in this bogus thread so it stops getting bumped to the top and confusing people. It confused the hell out of me.

The save files probably aren't really corrupt Mr. Smarty pants because they still worked in the session that they were created in. Though regardless, if the source of the corruption could be indentified they could most likely be fixed anyways.

I got a prompt patch this morning, and I play every day so I had the previous patch. Loading one of the corrupted save files also hard locked my Xbox as opposed to the return to the main menu.

The corruption issue is obviously related to Xbox Live security features, hence the "default" missing DLC message. Since the games are tested in the developer netowork that lacks these security features and not the real Live network that seems the likely cause. Also the reason why the bonus content weathered 10mmm pistol wasn't properly tested since it bugs out if you mod the weapon.
