New Patch 1.2 Released

Post » Fri Oct 31, 2008 5:42 am

Has anyone noticed if the glitch with the .50 incendiary rounds and VATS (wield AMR, load incediary rounds, target people with VATS, exit VATS without executing any commands -> people are set in fire, no combat initiated, easy way to kill every friendly NPC without ever firing a shot or losing rep/karma) has been fixed? My friend has it in his XBox version (no connection to the internet, so no patch).

And by the way, can the patch be DL'd and burned to a DVD and installed that way to the XBox version? (I don't know anything about how these things work with consoles nor does my friend, so that's why I ask.)

If this is actually a reproducible bug I may take a crack at fixing it. The issue is that most obvious implementations of it require placing scripts on every NPC, which is a HUGE pain since the GECK doesn't bother to implement any handy programmer tricks like inheritance that are applied a pure object-oriented sense. (or in english, there isn't just one "master" NPC I can edit to ensure every NPC checks for unfair stat bonuses).

It's definitely reproducible, people have been mentioning the beret thing for a long time, even put it in the wiki. In terms of it affecting other companions and not just Boone, well...it works every time for all of them in my game, at least. I suppose it's possible some people don't get this effect, but since it's not a bug most people report/notice, hard to say. Ppl on consoles can't even check companion stats, as far as I know.

I was wondering if someone could help me with something, on my xbox 360 saves everytime i went to load a game it was saying i needed downloadable content to load the game, which i never had, so i gave up playing.

My question is, does the new patch fix that problem and will i be able to re-load my saves again?

It'd be great if you could take a look at the bug, Yukichigai.

It's certainly easy enough to reproduce, as all FO3 and FNV companions are afflicted by it. Simply equip them with any stat enhancing gear and compare their values before and after a few inventory accesses.

Oddly enough, their stats don't max out at 10, but keep increasing, at least according to the console. For example, in my last playthrough, Cass' PE was 11 before I had the opportunity to exchange her headgear for a stat neutral version.

My most vivid experience with this bug was when I clad Clover in Reilly's Ranger Battle Armor (Small Guns +10, AP+5, LK+1) as well as a bandana (PE+1). After a few trades her stats were insanely high, many of them in their teens (i.e. PE was around 16, IIRC).

Long story short, Clover eventually became so powerful that she easily dropped the Jury Street Super Mutant Behemoth with a standard Chinese Assault Rifle.

NB, I doubt it's really necessary to rescript every NPC in the game; fixing FNVs standard 6 humanoid companions would already be an impressive gameplay improvement most players would be grateful for.

JSPs and the silencer are the only things that make the Sniper Rifle remotely useful now, and one is contingent on you choosing a skill path that includes a lot of emphasis on Repair. Without that the gun is outright worse than the Trail Carbine by quite a bit. It winds up being one of those things you repair and sell for caps now, rather than a weapon you really keep around.

On top of that, .308 should NOT be less powerful than .44 Magnum. Ever.

Agreed on both points. And the sniper rifle still degrades way too fast.

Did a quick search, didn't see anyone post it.

Okay, so I was complaining about how only Legion and NCR sends assassins after us.
And asked that more groups sends members to kill us if we become vilified by them.
And I don't know if this was in the game previous to the update but this is the first time that a Powder Ganger hit squad has attacked me.
Did Obsidian patch in more assassination squads? Or was this something that by pure chance never happened to me before?

This happened to me post patch as well...I didn't even think about it til you pointed it out but my guess is that it was patched in, as I'm almost always vilified by the PG and have never had that happen before. I just wish MORE assassination squads would come after me. I got one, once, from the legion. It was fun, and it never happened again :(

To be honest a patch is a patch. They might not of repaired everything and they might have damaged some things but at least they are working hard to fix the errors there were at launch.

This is true, but they also need to know what is wrong with the game in order to fix them, and J. E Sawyer does come onto these forums so if you do have problems with the game it always pays to voice them somewhere, you never know, you may get heard :)

This issue of being stuck in vats is really breaking the game for me. This never happened to me pre-patch, as I never dl'd the first patch for 360. Right after starting a new character up after downloading latest patch, I started getting stuck in vats alot. This usually leads to me dying and just completely taking fun out of combat. I don't understand how this was overlooked.

I can walk through The Strip without having to look up to the sky now!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!

I used to have to look straight up to the sky, if I looked towards all the flashing lights of Gomorrah or the Lucky 38 my game would freeze.

I have had the issue of trying to pull off a shot in VATS but my character will just hold the gun at his waist and slowwwwwly get attacked by a Ghost Trapper and eventually go out of VATS without firing at all.. just letting me get hurt. Other than that, it's pretty good.

I haven't had any issues with Vats without the patch with the expection of the Cowboy Repeater as it takes a couple key seconds to get into Vats. Obviously this patch won't fix everything right away thats why you come out with another patch in a couple months.

I really don't get why the sniper rifle had to be castrated just so the hunting rifle can feel better about itself. The sales pitch for the nerf is that it would encourage players to use other guns - I actually don't see it. In fact, this greatly upsets me on multiple levels.

First of all, I think trying to "balance" a single-player game one month after release is ridiculous when there are other legitimate bugs and glitches to be ironed out. Anyone who feels the sniper rifle is OP and needs to be nerfed is probably NOT using the sniper rifle anyway. As this is a SINGLE player game and NOTHING (such as the threat of competition) is FORCING you to use the sniper rifle, who cares if the SR is over-powered?

Second, the hunting rifle is STILL useless. This patch still doesn't make me want to use the hunting rifle. The AP cost is ridiculous compared to the sniper rifle AND the trail carbine. Post-patch, I still don't see any reason why I would use the hunting rifle if given the option of using other guns, such as the trail carbine or the sniper rifle.

Third, if the devs are so worried about people using the sniper rifle as an assault rifle, do what is most realistic and lower the rate of fire, the reload speed and the size of the magazine. Instead, they lower bullet damage (sniper bullets do tend to do more damage than assault rifle bullets IRL) and its crit multi (5X is ridiculous, but at least the higher crit can be justified by placement of bullets on lethal parts of targets).

Fourth, how many people actually rotate between different weapons? I'm willing to put money on the fact that by the mid-late to late-game, most players would have their characters stream-lined for a specific combat style with a specific set of weapons, each with minimal functional redundancy. For example, I personally choose to carry 1 or 2 rifles at most for RP reasons (for the RP reason that people can't actually carry 8 different guns with them and go trekking across the Mojave). Are the devs actually expecting me, with this patch, to start carrying/using other rifles because Gun A is better at mid-range, Gun B is better at long-range and Gun C is also good a mid-range but it does less burst damage but has a higher ROF than Gun A?

Fifth, just so everyone knows, the brush gun, a gun with a name that invokes images of farmers, is now unquestionably superior to a gun with the name "sniper rifle."

Sixth, now the trail carbine is >>>> Gobi sniper.

I agree that the sniper rifle needed a nerf, don't get me wrong. But seriously, this...this is infuriating.

EDIT: Personally, what they should've done to "fix" the OP sniper rifle is lower the damage multiplier for JSP ammo to 1.15-1.25 (comparable to hand-loaded AMR ammo), lower the critical multiplier and also the ROF for the sniper rifle.

And fix the carbon parts glitch.

Really? - I always run into these (especially just outside Primm - always), along with Legion assassins.. heck sometimes when I play the only things I kill for good while are PG or Legion assassins, they're everywhere in my game and all this was PRE-PATCH.. odd. I know since I've applied the patch, the frequency hasn't changed though,, still get them and quite regularly too.

I've ran into PG assassins - just north of Camp Golf, Boulder City, Primm (seems to be their favorite) and just random sites throughout the Mojave
The Legion, well they turn up almost anywhere - even once just outside Novac..
