So you either missed the discussion about not calling the new people 'noobs' or you chose to ignore it. It's called respect for the new members.

Most of the new members have been insulting bethesda, so I think it all works out.

Most? It's tedious at best to denote the majority of them. There are plenty of polite and contributing newer members.

Also, there's a difference between new members and people who sign up, rant and flame, then leave without ever coming back. They're just trolls.

Cut out the "noobs" part please, there will always be new members joining, it is good for the community. If you see any problems, report it please.

Ya, be nice to us new folk. :-) However, if you look like Mjoll and wish to call me "little elf" in her accent I wont be disappointed in the least. Then there is the flabbergasting "It's a fine day when you're around" that so many of the fine women of Skyrim offer. Though, that may be a bit much to ask.

To the topic:

I suspect it will grow. TES Online offers a huge fan base. The online system allows for a truly huge game world that simply can't be matched by a game based on a home computer or console. Thousands of quests, thousands of locations, etc...

Every release is followed by a huge influx of new players, that's really a no-brainer there.

I really do not see why it is necessary to call them names, most of them are quite polite, albeit understandingly a bit clueless. Of course it's the internet and big forums will attract trolls and flamers, but the community here is mature enough to handle this. Also, we have Rohugh :stare: .

After a while many of the newcomers will leave, although enough people remain there and boost the number of regulars.

Probably going to be even larger than it was for Skyrim, it seems that with each new TES game that comes out, the more popular it is than the last.

I think the series has reached a point where everybody and their mom knows what The elder scrolls is. With Morrowind, TES wasn't a major series, but it did become popular. Oblivion really pulled in a ton of people, which led to the immense popularity that Skyrim has seen. I'm sure we'll see even more people, but i don't think the series will grow in how well known it is much more. I think it's reached the point of being a "well established series". Which is all you can hope for as a dev.

What worries me though, as someone whose fav TES game is Morrowind, is that the new people expect the exact opposite from the series than I do. They see the series from an action rpg perspective, and will expect more of it. Where as I see the series as RPG's which have gotten too streamlined. It bothers me that the series will never "recover" and become the more real, old more school rpgs again. Which is sad.

I truly miss when we didn't have hand holding, but I don't see a way out of it with the majority of TES gamers by now, having their first TES experience with Oblivion or Skyirm.

Well they did a massive messed up job with the PS3 version, so yeh, I reserve the right. I've been following the series for over a decade and playing itsince 2008.

I'm with you, and my first TES Game was Oblivion

In the long run it does seem like TES is becoming a bit more Mainstream, but who knows, maybe the future mainstream will go back to how Old RPG's were. the younger Generation's views never seem to stay the same, or continue one path. They just keep changing, maybe one day they'll get bored of simplistic games like Call of Duty.

I'd rather follow Faendal's example and happily call you sister/brother elf. :)

As far as prominence goes, TES can't grow much further. Skyrim is instantly recognizable by practically every gamer and a lot of non-gamers, the series has finally made it to the top.

Number of players will keep growing; hopefully TES VI won't be troubled by the same problems Skyrim had with consoles and the devs will use their new project (Fallout 4 anyone?) as a learning experience. People who played and loved Skyrim will surely play the next game, it will also attract a new fanbase - but that depends mostly on the setting. Vikings and dragons are popular, but I'm not sure if, say, deserts and bipedal cats will appeal to the same audience. We'll see what Bethesda comes up with.

TES has already turned into action RPG, there's no escaping it now. I just hope they enhance the skill system by including more meaningful perks - and that they'll give us an option to decrease handholding. Better writing is a given, as the competition is steadily increasing and they'll have to do better if they want to keep their advantage over CDPR. It would be interesting to see Obsidian join the race, but they're tied up with another kind of game right now.

It's quite simple: give us a better journal and customizable HUD. If people want to chase giant arrows, it's their choice - those who dislike handholding can turn off all markers and use written clues. It won't be expensive as long as informations are only written in your journal; no need to pay voice actors for reading more lines.

I don't mind new people joining in.I joined the official Bethesda fanbase in August 2012.Does that make me any less a fan? No.I've got the entire Doom series, Dishonored + DLCs, All TES Games since Morrowind + DLCs, and Fallout 3 + DLCs + Fallout:NV + DLCs.AND I HAD TROUBLE FINDING THESE GAMES WHERE I LIVE.

I would say it's not even close. Perhaps you hang out with gamers but not everyone does. Myself, I'd say I have a pretty large circle of friends and acquaintances, and would guess that about 5% of them have heard of Skyrim. And only one person out of that 5% plays it.

I'm of course speaking in terms of people you'd expect to know atleast something about games. Clearly not ALL people have heard of the elder scrolls, jsut like not all people have heard of mass effect. But every gamer (almost) will know what mass effect is ,just like every game (almost) will know what Skyrim is. That wasn't the case with Morrowind, or even oblivion.

The reason why the old-school RPG style is dieing is because the technology to make a seamless action RPG is there now. My first RPG was Phantasy Star no game really topped that experience (and imo, a top5 RPG of all time) until Final Fantasy 7 for many reasons. There have been many in between and they all offered something different and TES moving to an action RPG style is no surprise to this player. JRPG and WRPG, they all evolve in one way or another and that's not a bad thing.

Of course there will be new memebrs and some more! Like AWOL Ryan said, new game=new people. Personally, I do not mind them, we were all there at one time. And in no way do I mind if they are curious or want to know more/need help as I and hopefully others are willing to help. I mentioned this in a thread over at CD, and that is the only new members other than trolls that I do not like are the ones who are snobby and think they know everything about TES when the only game they played was Skyrim.

Nothing against new members, in case I wasn't hinting at that. Just hope the continuing influx of new members are nice and awesome! :D
