New Playable Race (What If)

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:40 pm

If Bethesda introduced a new race to TES games... which would you like to see?

feel free to state what characteristics/powers and why you think they should be introduced to TES games as a playable Race

Why not have a dog type humanoid, just as plausible as the khajit ha.

Dwemer would top my list to be honest. When you say falmer (snow elves) do you mean before they went underground and went blind?

Dwemer. +10 to smithing. Racial could be summon construct. Summons a spider drone at low levels and upgrades up to centurion in later levels.

Yes, passive ability could be to not be attacked by the dwemer machinery, with the power like you said. Good idea.

Imga for me, mainly because they're not extinct like the Dwemer. It'd also be cool to have a race that actually likes the Altmer.

Mudcrab, increased heavy armor, racial = able to attack in water, allowing for deadly traps! Also slight boost in alchemy, one handed and block!

Serious mode: dwemer would be awsome ^

They could build a construct, instead of summoning. Then there would be a use for all those gears, gyroscopes and stuff, plus a soul gem. You could need more of less parts depending on the construct, centurions would need the most.

There was a dog-like (well, fox-like, actually) beast race native to Black Marsh. Lilmothiit, they were called, if I remember correctly, but they died from fever epidemics along with the native humans during the Second Era.

Falmer could have some kind of night vision like khajit and frost resist, etc etc.
Dwemer could construct "pets" similar to having a hunting dog, at forges.
Lore says sload are strong magic types and have the racial ability to teleport... now that'd be cool even if it was a once a day 20m distance teleport.
Imga because they are apes and like the high elves, hell thye might even clash from being so much alike to the thalmor.

Personally i'd like to see sload. Not entirely extinct... i think

and to the post above, Lilmothiit lol would be cool but imagine all the fantastic mr fox jokes >.>

Sload or Falmer, I'd actually be okay with the current Falmer if they had a friendly community somewhere.
Vision would still be there but they'd always play with a dark purple tint and a constant 'detect life'.

We already have several elf subraces and a couple of beast races so my vote goes for the dwarves.

They should make custom races that aren't involved in the MQ at all, like the falmer, you start your tutorial deep underground, and your goal is to capture the above ground world... Enslave towns, burn cities!!

They obviously shouldn't be adding more playable races, but if they have to it'd be something from akavir like the ape people

Goblins becasuse of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD-C2_okFuM.

Seriously though they use tools, magic, traps and poisons etc, herd rats and grow mushrooms, have a social hierarchy and religion. Like humans they are obviously intelligent social animals.

If TES VI takes place in the Aldmeri Dominion they could play a major part and the events of the game could provide a plausible reason for their inclusion as a playable race in TES VII.

I'm skeptical that a new race could be added without it feeling abrupt. I do see some scenarios that would: a game that involve Akavir could easily introduce new races, particularly Akaviri humans if they still exist, or the Tang Mo. The Maormer could work, particularly if Pyandonea were conquered. A game set in the Summerset Isles might manage playable goblins, while a game set in Valenwood might manage Imga - the former sounds interesting, but I'd honestly rather the Imga have very restricted numbers (or even be a hoax).

I don't think the Dwemer, Ayleid, or Falmer could work. I love TES dwarves, and the troglodytic Falmer are awesome, but I don't these working. For a race to be playable it really need to be accepted in general society like any other, which wouldn't seem to work for these (or the Sloads for that matter). Yes Bethesda could make something work, but not easily and it risks being contrived.

I also have to wonder what a new race would bring to the table. The three pure categories (combat/magic/stealth) have good coverage, and the hybrid areas have good options as well. If a new race was filling a playstyle gap I'd be more accommodating to one suddenly springing up, but I just don't see a niche to be filled here.
