New player with some questions

Post » Mon Apr 04, 2016 1:43 pm

Hey all, I just started playing Oblivion for the first time thanks to the Elder Scrolls Anthology, and want to experience everything this game has to offer. But with that, I have a couple questions.

1. Is it possible to keep saves in a separate folder if I want to go back to them later?

2. If question 1 is possible, I'd like to set up three characters. A thief, mage, and warrior. I'm going to be playing through all their guild quests (Thieves'/DB, Mage Guild, and Fighter's Guild respectively). After I finish I'll finish the main quest/Shivering Isles with whatever character I liked the most. I might do Knights of the Nine with my Warrior, I'm not sure. But anyway, are there any other guilds/factions I should know about? And which would you recommend for each character?

1. The standard question: are you playing on console or PC?

2. There is also the Arena, which I think would be a great fit for your Warrior. I can picture a mage joining the Arena also. I have a harder time picturing a thirf joining the Arena, but there are many ways you could roleplay a thief Gladiator. You can find the Arena in the Imperial City.

As long as you are on PC there is really no need to put saves in a separate folder, unless you really want to. Each save will have your character's name attached to it, so it's fairly easy to go back and find the last save of that character. The save folder in My Docs can hold thousands of saves and that doesn't get to be a problem until it gets to 4 or 5 thousand, at which point things start to take longer to open and close. If you do put the saves in a different folder you will have to move them (it) back to the original folder before playing that save.

I play multiple characters, too. I keep a hand written list of a character's last save number when I switch to a different character. That way I don’t have to go back through the save list looking for the last one.

Welcome to the forum. :D
