Only thing we know is that Todd smiled when he mentioned it. There's also more than one jail.

Bavmorda believes this to mean prisons belonging to opposing factional groups.

There was nothing officially stated except for Todd getting excited that there will are a few types of prisons, depends on the type of crime you committed.

Most likely going to be less spreadsheety, unique, rugged, and have a good culture behind it. That's the basic nut of it.

Gotta love Todd Howard haha.

Oh, but yes. There was an interview where Todd stated there's a new system they're working on for crime, and there are different types of jails. But that's something they'll talk about later.

That would be cool. They all would have their own criminal system too hopefully.

I think that's too much to ask for. Could be cool, but a bit too complicated. I think it'll be if they won't send us to the same and ONLY prison in Skyrim like they did in Oblivion... I didn't want to get caught cause it was too boring to get caught... I hope every city has its own prison with multiple floors/places in which we're found there by the gravity of our doings.

If every faction had its own prison... I don't know, could be cool though if factions actually ruled towns.

Well Todd did say there are 9 Holds and each hold has their own Jarl.

That's right, and we know Skyrim is in a state of civil war. Imagine being thrown in with POWs and thieves alike, then made to fight it out in the mud pits for the amusemant of the peasants.

We'll see prisons similar to the ones in the Shivering Isles, where you'll have to fight your way out - without your equipment.

all we know is that there are different penal codes and systems according to the different districts - sort of like a federalist state

Maybe you have to fight to clear your name. Arena style, fist to fist or rusty blade to rusty blade. Man or beast. The winner is innocent by the gods decree, trail by combat isn't unheard of especially in norse mythology.

It might be get sent to different places depending on your crimes, also they might have changed it from just basically sleeping through your sentance you might have actual quests and stuff to do in jail. That would be cool.
