New Race Poll

Voted for the Noob topic, but if you want to do some research and put some races from TES lore up, i would vote for one.

It would be cool to see another race but the big ten are good enough also.

The Daedric races would be interesting. Not requisite, but they do exist.

I've always wanted the Dwemer to return in some manner, and be a playable race.

Well, there was the Daedra in Morrowind who just chilled, presumably accepted by others. That would open up the possibility for lesser Dremora to be a playable race. Also, one could either have a new race appear on boat, or find a forgotten portal that linked to a city where the last of them were. There are ways to introduce a new race without breaking the lore. Am I particularly worried about it? No, I'll just make a race via modding later on.

I'll never learn to understand this. We have 10 races... 10 RACES!!! what other single player roleplaying game gives you that? heck in most games you can't even chose your race or even your six or how your character looks. Why is the 10 current races not enough? There should be something for everybody. I voted no. I would much rather see Bethesda making the different races more unique and interesting instead.

Old topic, it would be pretty much impossible to add a new race that didn't mess with the lore. Sorry but noob topic.

I would LOVE to play a Sload Necromancer! However, the NPC reactions would have to be so dramatically different as to make it almost an entirely different game.

People would either attack or flee on sight.

I don't think they should add any playable races, they should just strive to make each already available race more unique. I know they plan on doing this for Skyrim, but for some reason I feel that it won't be enough (e.g. no race-specific animations).

There's pretty much nothing else to play as. What are you going to be, Sload? Maromer? Ayleid? There's nothing left.

Well, Maormer is actually left. And they could be awesome. Just not for Skyrim.

Mods that eneable you to play a Dremora were very popular in Oblivion, I used one myself. People didn't react right though and in the end I abandoned it. The race has potential though, if done right.

I voted yes... because new races are interesting, and there's a lot of unexplored species out there in Tamriel. (Such as the Centaurs)

That being said, I also have a caveat. If the races don't bring something new and fun to the game, then they don't need to be there. New races aren't something that are required. The current races are adequate, in terms of playing the game for fun and all. But new races -could- be good for making that experience even better, so long as they provide their own unique play-style to the game.

I'd like to see another race, but it is hard to make the case for it. Here's a half-hearted attempt: Lore states a history of animosity between Tamriel and Akavir, including several invasions by Akavir into Tamriel. What's to stop them from coming over again within the last 200 years before Skyrim? And maybe they have reason other than military to migrate. I'll use the Tang Mo as an example... how cool would it be to have "monkey people" to play? Not sure they would have the mental capacity (think magic) for the job, though, since I think they are described as a "simple" race. (But, hey, maybe they've evolved in the past two centuries!) And, incidentally, Akavir is also know as "Dragon Land" too.

Seriously, though? I don't see it.

Hell no, Noob Topic. MAYBE some mixed races in some future TES. But 10 is more than enough for me.

I wouldn't mind more enemy races(Non-playable) aka. if the Falmer returned or something, but in terms of playable the big 10 are just fine.

Would be nice, but we'd have to wait until they run out of provinces first.

Seriously, if we ever get off Tamriel, it would make no sense to not be allowed to play as one of the natives.

Although part of my opinion is moulded by a lifetime of trying to find a good RPG only to find that they expect you to fall in love with their well-crafted Lord of the Rings ripoff, thereby making me particularly adverse to playing as elves, dwarves, orcs, or even humans. That said, what I had in mind simply will not ever get into TES unless I were to somehow slip my idea into the game personally.

But I might strike lucky and one day a "new playable race" doesn't mean "we've added humanoid elephants" and it's actually something I like.

So, yeah, whatever, if they can explain it well enough then I'm fine with it.

newb topic-

10 races- confirmed

more races needed.. why?

10 races are plenty. I like how all the lore has followed itself throughout the history of the game. I never like it when new things get added on top of new things on top of new things.

 GOBLINS!

Seriously though, it'd be even better if you could join a goblin tribe and war with the other tribe. Although killing so many goblins would be a shame, I love the little guys.

Enemy races.hm... intersting idea. after you beat the game you can become a goblin, or minator, or lesser dragon, or a DAEDRA!

That being said, i feel this is more of a mod thing and wouldn't really fit in the game (i play 360, but i still can notice when something is really just a "mod idea")

This topic should've died last week. No, introducing more playable races would be a out of place in TES series. We've had these ten for about a decade now, they're becoming more unique and specialized, I see no reason for Beth to just add another one in to satisfy the whims of some people new to the lore.

Edit: Fixed some words, I was tired when I posted this.

The entirety of the Elder Scrolls legacy is based around those ten races populating Tamriel. Even with the gap in the timeline of 200 years after Oblivion, I still think it wouldn't make sense to have another race just pop up out of nowhere. I think if a new race was going to be added, it would have to be foreshadowed massively, and seeing as Skyrim is focusing mainly on the Nords, respectively, there would be no real reason to add another race out of necessity to implement more variety. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe with future Elder Scrolls titles, maybe, but like I said, it would need a lot of reasoning and foreshadowing.

Besides, since Oblivion and Skyrim have perfected the means to literally 'create' a character from scratch, it seems that the amount of variation in what you look like and what race you play as, will provide plenty of choice for whoever plays it until the next installment comes out. Simple really. ^^
