New Race Poll

It would be cool to see another race but the big ten are good enough also.

10 races is enough, but if you have a good idea who could be the new race I'm all for it.

I'm indifferent to it myself. The races available are fine but i would not be opposed to another one thats very different.

I think a new race that DIDN'T collide with the lore (which is almost impossible) would be fun for a little bit, but otherwise... Noob Topic...

You should listen to Todd Howard in one of the Game Informer Podcasts; he very well explains his visions for the Elder Scrolls games and how he shouldn't just cater to fan demand of adding new races when there are already 10 of them...

For Skyrim they're concentrating on making the races feel more unique...so playing as a Nord should be different from playing as an Imperial. A welcome improvement from Oblivion where all the races felt identical.

10 races should be enough for everyone, i even think its too much but its stupid to argue the lore . . . any more races would be stupid, i dont need star wars cantina looking taverns where you cant find 2 persons of the same species

I voted noob topic since it have already been confirmed that it will only be the 10 used in MW and OB.

Lots of Khajiit subgroups are missing and it’s naturally to call them new races as they have different abilities. But 4-5 types of Khajiit will be a bit too much outside their province.
I also guess the pc version will get some hundred races.

They could also add playable trolls :obliviongate:

The problem with just adding races onto the existing ten is that it breaks the lore. There would to be a coherent explanation as to where those races were in Oblivion and Morrowind etc - and that's not easy to do.

I suppose the best explanation could be that the 200 years that have passed since the end of Oblivion has meant that there has been a modest racial diversification - the emergence of a new strain of Khajit or Elven, for example. Or perhaps Dremora could have become civilized in the intervening years.

Apart from that, it will be down to modders, who will doubtless add all sorts of weird and wonderful playable races - some from wide Tamrielic lore, others from purely the imagination.

There's pretty much nothing else to play as. What are you going to be, Sload? Maromer? Ayleid? There's nothing left.

As much as I'd love to roll a Sload necromancer, precariously sustained by his frost resistance and levitation and supported by a small army of summons, slaves and undead... adding to the current ten races seems unlikely and unnecessary in the foreseeable future.

I'm quite content with the 10 original races and really don't see the point in adding more playable races.

:lmao:

EDIT:
Anyway.
The only other races (that we don't already have) we could play as are either A. Socially unacceptable in Tamriel, B. Really evil, or C. Not native to Tamriel, and thus having no reasonable explanation for being there (like the Tscaeci, Sload, Maormer, etc.). And don't even suggest the Ayleids, Falmer, or Dwemer. Although it would be so damn awesome to play as them, they simply are not coming back (at least, not soon, or in Skyrim).

I definately vote "yes" for new races. Honestly 10 races is fine, but except from their lore background the humanoid races are pretty interexchangeable and I personally always found it rather boring to play them. Beast races are a pure win for any game and I would love to see some more of them. Also they should be depicted as beasts and not elves. I can't stand entering a local newspaper agency and see a khajiit behind the reception desk. Beast races should be wild, have their own unique settlements and game art. There should be beast armors and weapons and whatnot.

It's just that little extra effort, which could make this game series so much more attractive. In Morrowind you could at least manage to create your own beasts, if you were capeable of 3d modeling and texturing, but with all that facegen crap going on, nothing goes anymore.

A n reasonable question.

And Old, older than the Skyrim section here :D

I voted no because 10 races is enough, it's already hard to make the races unique but balanced, a thing in which both MW and OB failed.

I voted yes, because more choices is always better, though I am not sure it is necessary. I don't want just another human race with all of the same models used and almost no distinct changes to how NPCs react to you.

I would LOVE to play a Sload Necromancer! However, the NPC reactions would have to be so dramatically different as to make it almost an entirely different game.

Noob Topic - you want something else, but doesn't say what? 10 is more than enough, but making them more unique wouldn't be a bad thing...

More than the current 10 would not fit lore. And also I would prefer if they made all of the races unique. Custom Animations and skeleton ftw
All the other races, like said before have no reason to ever be in Tamriel or are too even. Sub-Races are fine though.

Fixed.

I'm fine with the ten races although I wouldn't be opposed to a new one being added either.
