New Rig : Graphic Mods ?

Post » Fri Aug 31, 2012 2:37 am

Hello,

Tomorrow, i'll add my new graphic card, ATI Radeon 7950 3GB to my computer. I was wondering if i could install obge, raevwd, better cities, ul, fcom, qarl's texture pack and other stuff without too much lagging ?

ASUS P5QL Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 4ghz (overclocked)
8GB RAM Corsair
ATI Radeon 7950 3GB (Previously ATI Radeon 4890 1GB)
650 Watts
1920x1080 1080p Full HD

Thanks for your help !

With that CPU? Probably no, new videocard won't help much. You'd better get new CPU if you want all the goodies.

See how it goes. Add a few things at a time, via BAIN of course, and you can always backtrack to whatever extent is necessary, any time.

I would suggest staying away from too many mods that add NPCs, monsters and animals (in terms of numbers showing up at any given time, not varieties of same), as well as complex scripting and AI.

Graphics-wise, however, you should be fine. QTP3 (etc.), OBGEv3, and so on - definitely.

I thought that my CPU was way too powerful, as i remembered someone in this forum saying it was a very good cpu for mods (the 4ghz helped)

1. It is old (old technology) and does less per tact. For example you can go to http://www.superpi.net/Scores/ and check results between Core2Duo E8000 and latest Ivy Bridge Core i5 3000K. The difference is about 100%.
2. not sure, but extreme overclocking doesn't work fine with modded Oblivion.

Yeah, the CPU may be old but Oblivion is older and don't obtain performance gain with multiple core, right ?
it's not extreme oevrclocking, it's very stable

it does not use multiple cores, but still an i5 running at 3.0 is a hell of a lot faster than a core2 running at 3.0

In Oblivion ? I don't think so.
But still, how much FPS would it gain over a C2D E8500 ?
