New room type for idle dwellers

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 1:39 am

As the vault population getting bigger, most new dwellers have no need/place to work and have no adequate room to spend idle time happily. We need new room type where non-working dwellers spend time and have happy life.

In my vault, only 1/3 of dwellers are working to produce some resources or Radio Studio and rest 2/3 are just standing idle in the living room or storage room or on endless coffee break. Alternatively, I let them work in extra power generator room that my vault don't need, only just to give them room to stay and keep them employed and happy.

So how about introducing new entertainment room like theatre where these left-over idle dwellers will spend time and have happy life.

The new room type produces nothing and does not expand population or storage limit. Instead, dwellers there will be happier regardless of their SPECIAL. The room cost less than living/storage room and consumes less power per dwellers it hold. Each cell will hold 4 dwellers, so that it consumes half power per each dwellers. 3 cell room hold 12 dwellers.

Dwellers also need room to take a rest. What do you think about that?

Either expand your vault to where you need those workers, send them into the wastes to explore, put them in training rooms, or kill them off. It wasnt intended for you to just stop but keep bringing in dwellers for no reason.

I like the idea of happy rooms, either that or condems. Or both.. Maybe we need both.

Lol, yes!

AGFallout is correct, put your dwellers to work, send them exploring or kill them. There's no point in having them sit idle. There's nothing wrong with the game, you're just not doing it right =)

There is no point in over-producing resources too. All the resources are produced in many times more than required. So putting additional dwellers to resource production is meaningless.

Wasteland exploration requires training, careful preparation and management, which is quite burdensome. My vault already have more than 10 explorers, who bring enough weapons and outfits to vault. Do we really need several tens (20-90) of explorers? I don't think so. It it beyond my attention and managing capability.

So resource production room or Wasteland exploration are not good answer to chronic unemployment problem for newcomers to the old and crowded vault.

Training rooms is my answer. I have 21 triple upgraded training rooms (3 of each special) so about 2/3 my dwellers are permanently training all their stats. Besides that I have 4 Nuka Cola facilities, 4 stimpak/radaway facilities and about 7 nuclear plants. On average 20 of my dwellers are exploring/returning and I never allow my dwellers to have coffee breaks. On the long run when everyone's stats are maxed I guess there might be a lot of coffee breaks though... or just mass exploring I guess.

Training for what? Dwellers for resource production and Wasteland exploration are more than enough, nearly maxed out. Then training become meaningless. It is only training for training's shake. Just boosting up meaningless numbers aimlessly.

At least my suggestion (entertainment room) will

boost happiness of dwellers, the ultimate goal of this game.

I guess we just need more endgame content for dwellers. The wasteland seems the obvious choice then, making it more interactive and allowing large groups of dwellers to explore it maybe. The entertainment room you suggest doesn't seem to add any gameplay and 100% happiness seems easily attainable just by using radio rooms.
