New Screens III

OT: I'm loving the realistic wrinkles on the bald guy. Vast improvement over Oblivion.

Definitely.

Also, kinda minor, but the skin of his neck also looks like it would if someone were actually turning their neck. I don't remember if it was like that in previous Beth games but it looks really good. Their attention to detail is amazing and makes me excited to find out what other little things like this they have worked on.

Minecraft...

The Witcher 2 is NOT an open-world game. And, as of now, is still a PC-exclusive.

EDIT: I hope you know what an open-world game is.

OMW sorry I didn't know you were thinking of The Whicher 2

I thought TW2 ment Two World 2

Yeah Skyrim can do better! Graphically I'm sure its gameplay is amazing!

Two Worlds 2 had nice graphics, but the world seemed so bland and empty to me. There was no incentive whatsoever for me to wander around aimlessly for hours like I would in a TES game.

Getting back on topic, I'm loving all of the people we've seen so far. So mammoths might be somewhat low poly, whatever, because what we're most likely going to see the most is other people. As I said, they all look GREAT so far. I'm really eager to see Argonians and how much they've improved.

Or the Dunmer, for that matter. They always look pretty awesome.
And what of Bosmer? Although their culture is repelling, their voices are annoying, and looks and height lacking, they make the most fun stealth characters to play. I think it's time they start looking the part.

Those are truly some neat looking pictures. I couldn't care less on the matter that the graphics isn't on par with games like Crysis 2 or Battlefield 3 or [Insert Hi-Graphic game here]. It is the art style and amount of detail that blows me away, every time I look at these pics I notice something new, e.g. look at the carvings on the mammoth tusks or the blood on the bald guys armour. And everything looks so gritty and down to earth in comparison with Oblivions colourful fantasy style. If you don't think this is a big leap from Oblivion, think again.

Although their culture is repelling

I totally disagree. I think the Bosmer culture is fascinating and strange. It almost seems honor based, like some sort of feudal-Japan system, but its also very exploitative and they are not afraid to take advantage of perceived weaknesses. This reflects their primal roots. The strong survive, and the weak feed the strong.

their voices are annoying

Purely Bethesda's fault. They don't have to sound annoying at all, but Bethesda chooses to cast them as such.

and looks and height lacking

Well, yeah, but those guys in these screenshots aren't lookers either!

I think it's time they start looking the part.

I totally agree with that. I think we're going to get a much more serious version this time. Skyrim seems to be one of the most serious depictions of the TES universe that we've seen so far.

Well, by culture, I mean backstory. Sure, their Japanese-like aspect is cool (Even they are known for being liars and thieves), but the Green Pact would drive me nuts. Eff that. They are cannibals, also, I'll have you know. That's just..... Eww.

I'm also hoping for a Bosmer overhaul. Since MW my first character has always been a Bosmer assassin. I actually love the culture. A Bosmer who actually follows the Meat Mandate seems like the perfect member of the Dark Brotherhood. Its just always been a shame they all look like clowns with their makeup washed off.

Edit: I don't think their culture is a very good comparison to feudal Japan.

I'd rather work with herbs than with meats. I'm a carnivore in reality. Meat is for devouring, not with which to trifle. Herbs are much more complex, so I prefer them as my image of alchemical ingredients.

The green pact is interesting because of how they work their live around it. Beer made from fermented rat meat?

Disgusting, but interesting.

As for the feudal Japan comparison, it was just a small comparison. I could have just as easily compared it to European honor systems.

Shows that they are intelligent and determined that they work with such limited resources, but if that's how it is in Valenwood, Imma get da heck outta there. Skyrim seems more or less a home to me. I'm over 40% Norwegian, which are the Viking race themselves. I'm used to the cold, though I don't prefer it. Although everyone thinks us to be blonde-haired, blue-eyed, and tall people, it isn't all true. I'm almost black-haired, I have blue eyes, and I'm just under 6-foot. I'd say I'm rather average, though I tan extremely easily and can become very dark.

My rant lead me to this thought: Go find the female Nord screenshot. She has brown eyes. Odd.... Blue-eyes are more of a secure thing to assume than anything else, don't you think?

Touche. But it's not fair to judge an unreleased game solely on graphics. Any vast improvement (in this case, face and character models) over a game's predecessor(s) is a great thing to acknowledge and praise. We can also expect a lot more improvements over past Bethesda games. In my opinion, the mammoths look as great as they possibly can (considering the large number of other creatures we can expect to see). If mammoths are behaviorally portrayed in a believable way, then no one should complain about how they look. I like good graphics too. But if they are too good, then I think that gameplay might suffer in some way. That's my two cents, anyway.

Btw, i just realized that your avatar is Robo from Chrono Trigger. I facepalmed myself for not realizing that at first glance. Awesome game.

whoa... i just realized that guy in the second image is blind in his left eye!

i wonder if we can choose for our character to be scarred in that way, having a blind eye?

that would be awesome... that guy also looks incredibly dirty... does that mean we can do that, too... make our characters dirty-looking?

I think that Vsions confirmed that. There's also http://images.uesp.net/4/4a/SR-Orc01_wLegal.jpg.

Oh yeah, did you notice the scar under the http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/3927/baldguy.jpg's left eye and the facial tattoos?

I can't wait to see the Bretons. I remember Todd mentioning how they were working hard to make each race unique, so I'm very interested in seeing how they made the humans look different from each other. Between the Nords, Imperials, and Bretons, there were many times in Oblivion in which I couldn't tell what race a NPC was just by their looks. I had to hear the voice or read their name. Maybe some unique hair, and facial hair styles for each race?

Oh, also, about that...
I hope the character creation goes over more broad a spectrum. I'm a rather light-build of a person, hence my tastes for stealth over brute strength, even though I have some. *wink, wink* I hope we can change our builds, and perhaps that'll contribute to our stats in some way? Just thinking. I'm a shorter, more wiry Nord, OR, a taller, more ripped Bosmer. Wut u tink?

Well, as you said before with Norwegians, many stereotypical traits are less common than we think.

But an almost pure Scandinavian/Nord wouldn't be brown-eyed. That's the most accurate "stereotype" of all. Maybe she's someone special, and the only brown-eyed Nord in the game? Idk.......

You must remember, that even though the human races of Tamriel are based off of real life races, they are still different, and we cant completely compare them in all ways.

Edit: Plus, blue eyes are a weaker gene compared to brown eyes, which means if her bloodline is mixed, she could easily end up with brown eyes, and who's to say she doesnt have some Imperial blood? We dont even know which town it is, and it might end up being the one that allies with the Empire.

They probably look low quality namely because they're not anti aliased, I suspect that's why they look blocky.
