Holy [explatives deleted] :shocking:

That Redguard is the most bad-ass mofo I've ever seen. And is that High Hrothgar in the background of the Mammoth screenshot?!

@Skyrimer I don't think anyone except people with the magazine has seen those screens.

I don't like the way the mammoths look but I'm sure there will be texture mods soon enough ...

I like the way the guy looks though, hopefully we'll be able to customize our characters as much as this picture implies!
Only thing I don't like on the guy is the weird bicep to shoulder muscle ratio, at least give him proportion!

I hate to say it, but that shoulder piece does not look like a different one.
It looks like its part of the same raiment, just with one being more armored. Similar to the Armored Vault suits of Fallout.

Are the trees in the Mammoth shot missing shadows? The ones in front look really odd.

Maybe it's too far away to draw a shadow for performance reasons...

I'd say it's pretty clear the trees in the close background don't have shadows.
My explanation for it is that it's outside the "shadow view distance", since we can see the mammoth's shadow so clearly.

Every game has one of those. I just didn't expect Skyrim's to be so short. What I worry more about how the shadows will "pop up". If not done smoothly, it could be a huge immersion breaker.

My favorite aspect of the mammoth picture is the perspective. Stunning view of the mountains and treetops. With a huge playable world like Skyrim will have realistic perspective is integral to immersive environment. I cant wait for a view from Skyrim's equivalent of dive rock. Just hope theres another adoring fan to knock off

haha ya

WOW.

Both shots are fantastic, but I must say the angular tusks and trunks make me yearn for tessellation. Fingers crossed.

I'm hoping they release some more news about GIANTS.

Do giants have different features and look different like NPC's or do they all look the same like basic creatures?

Will there be different types of giants? Different clans perhaps?

Can giants hurl bolders or rocks?

Can giants perform magic?

Things I noticed:
-Blood on the guys's armor
-a little gap between the bottle and the cabinet in the background
-the meat doesnt really look cooked
-second plate from the right is floating a little
-Piece of herb or something on the far right side of the table is lying on its side rather strangely
-textures are a little blurry in general
-light coming through the windows
-same furnace as in the bar in the trailer
-guy sitting in the back

Just some less obvious things.

That doesn't seem right, considering we see the mammoth's shadow so clearly.

There is a "shadow view distance" for all games, because a lot of dynamic shadows can be tough to render, so it's a pretty good possible explanation. I can't say it's the right one for sure of course, but it's very possible.

Love them! Bald dude looks awesome, great character designs this time round, and those Mammoths look simply epic. They have engravings on their tusks!

Ooh, I like the design of the pommel on that Nord's sword/axe/mace/hammer/whatever-thingy.

EDIT: And it seems that, if that hall belongs to the Companions, that their sigil (?) is an axe, going by the tapestries.

Vsions deserves a cake :cake:

Vsions,
Would you enjoy
?
[A] cake made of Dark Chocolate Mousse (body), Coconut Panna Cotta (inclusion), Dark Chocolate Genoise (Sponge) and Lemon Bubble Chocolate (base).
? ?

Oh, but I just remembered. Character Artists' salaries at Bethesda are unspeakably highh. You buy that for yourself.
Would you accept a Twix bar instead?

:)

These are presumably shots from the 360, so I'm assuming that the actual game's shadow distance on PCs could reach at least to those trees just beyond the rocks.

Maybe it's too far away to draw a shadow for performance reasons... Or it's because of the weather.

I'm almost certain it's because of the draw distance. They're in that weird LoD "Limbo" where they're far enough to be drawn off of detail, but close enough to be seen in detail.

I can see his hair line and the outline of his neck against the background. If there was a hood were you drew it in his face and neck would be shadowed not just his eye sockets.
