New Screens- Thread II

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 2:03 am

That either eye (both eyes?) can be blind is probably not something that was in doubt, but it's interesting to note that the http://cms.elderscrolls.com/sites/default/files/tes/screenshots/OrcNight.jpg blind eye is his right, while the http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/3927/baldguy.jpg blind eye is his left.

you sure it's a nord? looks more like a redguard to me.

I just checked out the Bethblog and they added these screens because of the delay with the fan interview. Should be up shortly after E3.

That first one isn't a screenshot. The other two look awesome though.

I really hope they don't over-use that one blinded eye effect though. We've already seen it on the orc, and now this bald dude. That's 2 out of only like 6 character faces we've seen up close. Just sayin.

These are presumably shots from the 360, so I'm assuming that the actual game's shadow distance on PCs could reach at least to those trees just beyond the rocks.

They're almost definitely from the 360... yeah. We know consoles have harder to render everything there is today, so it's more Microsoft and Sony to blame and not Bethesda :P
I'm pretty sure PCs will be able to customize shadow distance and almost definitely shadow resolution as well. I mean, we could for Oblivion, so why not for Skyrim as well...

Easily. Red Dead has the same short-range dynamic shadows too. It really helps bring out the detail in the world nearby, but once you become aware of the short draw range of the shadows, it becomes maybe just a little too apparent.

In a few years, with the Skyrim Graphics Extender is done, you'll probably see full dynamic soft shadowing at the max draw distance!

Regardless, it makes interiors look a lot better.

Good to hear. :) http://bethblog.com/index.php/2011/06/03/update-on-skyrim-fan-interview/

Vsions, what is the monster depicted in your avatar?

Pretty sure that's an undead character he modeled (yup, he's that good); on his site http://pixelrapture.com/?page_id=35.

I don't think these are from the July OPSM. Bethblog says they gave these to us for being patient with the fan interview. Interview will be up shortly after E3.

First of all, the dynamic, cinematic quality of the giant walking with the mammoths is amazing. It looks like a professional, natural movie scene, and it makes them look lik ethey are actually going somewhere, instead of staying in their designated 50ft radius. I hope there are animal/creature treks across the land like that, and its not just a screenshot set-up. Also, the bald guy looks great, and really makes me want to make my own character, which is my favorite part. I love character creation. Also. the clutter is just magnificent. The rooms are so well-made, and no longer generic. They look like a lot of decoration, artistic though process went iunt oboth their design, and contents. Congratulations Bethesda, for making another [censored] awesome game.

That doesn't seem right, considering we see the mammoth's shadow so clearly.

There is a "shadow view distance" for all games, because a lot of dynamic shadows can be tough to render, so it's a pretty good possible explanation. I can't say it's the right one for sure of course, but it's very possible.

It''s possible that the clouds are casting shadows over the trees, but not in the foreground near the mammoths. However, I think your theory that the shadows have a short draw distance is more likely.

That's clearly not a Hood, it's just hair lol, your drawing makes it look like a hood but if you zoom with the original picture that's clearly not a hood just hair.

Looking at that same screenshot from a gameplay perspective, I'm wondering what will happen if I attack one of the Mammoths or the Giant? Will I have to fight all three megafauna at the same time? Could make some interesting conflicts later in the game.

If Bloodmoon taught me anything, it's that even a level 20 Rickling raider can be a huge pain in the ass to a level 60 character when 8 of the lil buggers swarm you.

Yeah, except the shadow over the face is a dead giveaway that it is a hood.
