New screenshot and concept-art

Post » Fri Jan 28, 2011 6:57 am

On the new site they posted 1 new screenshot and 3 new concept-art drawings. Of course everybody missed those because of the cool trailer.

The link to the page: http://elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/

That screenshot is insane - I'm still not convinced it's in-game, the mist doesn't look 'real'

That's not an unedited screenshot.

A developer told us, on these forums, that it was in-game. It would be quite misleading of him to neglect to mention that it is edited. Also, double negatives are annoying.

That video and these concept art drawings got me even more psyched for this game! Can't wait to see the entire hand crafted world!

By saying that it is "not an unedited screenshot" I say it is either a concept art, a rendering or an edited screenshots. By saying "this is an edited screenshot" I say that it is an edited screenshot. I don't know that, however.
All I know is that it's not an unedited screenshot. The Bethesda guys also said that nothing in the new trailer was scripted. Right...

How do you know it's edited? Because it looks that way to you? It's been confirmed by several Bethesda employees that it's an in-game shot.

Link to where developer says it's an in-game screenshot?

I'm going to bring this up when it's revealed not to be.

They said the same thing about the first page of the GI article (the one with the dragon perched up on the archway). But then we saw the actual screenshot later and realized that the one in the GI article had been put through a bunch of filters. The same, I think, could be said of that screenshot of the mountains. It is an in-game screenshot, but it has been put through filters.

That third concept art reminded me a lot of the city Edoras from the Lord of the Rings

It is obviously a photograph of Mam-Tor taken during the cold-snap. You can't fool us Bethesda!

Indeed. According to the ES page that's Whiterun, and I think judging by the art it's a pretty safe bet that it's the daytime city seen in the trailer.

That means at this point we've possibly seen glimpses of all five major cities.

I don't think he did, he tweeted it.

Anyway as others are saying I'm sure its been altered - or maybe its a PC screen :hubbahubba:

My thoughts on the screenshot is that it's from the PS3 or PC version. It was confirmed early (by Pete on twitter I think?) that all the in-game footage in the trailer was from the Xbox 360. It just doesn't compare to other mountain shots we've seen so far that are from the xbox.

Directly from the website, side by side:

But then again, perhaps it's the shine effect from the direct sun that's missing from the other shot? Either shot is beautiful though!

The filename "Composite Mountain" could suggest that it just a composition of a few of mountain shots. Also the image is way too big to be a screenshot, especially for the XBOX 360. The image is 1600 pixels wide, however the copyright notice in the bottom left corner suggest that the image was even larger and is scaled down after the notice was placed.

The quality isn't much higher as in the trailer. The mountains look the same as the mountains in the trailer far away from the camera.

It was tweeted by Pete, and a developer here told us. I know, because I asked him. I'll try to find the link, it's a pretty old thread.

Maybe it is the first PC screenshot.

Even if the screenshot isn't completely in game, who cares? Look at the trailer, it still looks better than any console game I've seen to date. Just be happy with the epicness we will have in our hands on November 11, which was proven to be nothing but epic by the trailer. There's no reason to get crazy about pixels, resizing, or cutting a screenshot from a pan. The game is going to be amazing. This is silly.
