That's almost certainly a photograph, probably from the Appalachian Mountains where he said he parents live and where he hikes a lot. You guys are just seeing what you want to see :P

from what I can tell those trees look like douglas fir, only those grow in the west so it can't be from the appalachians... they might claim it to be pine forest in the map but I'm pretty sure that isn't pine.

I thought it was just a photo when I saw the video. But I would not be surprised if it was a screenshot.

This engine is really going to surprise people with how impressive it is.

If you watch the video, and pause at around 18 seconds (as opposed to looking at the mediocre screen provided above), you can see, to the right of the screen, that there is a small amount of snow on top of some of the branches of one or two of the pine trees there. Might I also point out that whilst that fog looks spectacular, it also seems to be somewhat fantastical, id est, a more romantic than realistic representation of a pine forest, much like the pg.48 screen. The LOD also looks none too dissimilar to the glimpses of it we have seen in screenshots thus far (notably pg.51), and neither do the trees themselves (pg.48 again). This, coupled with Pete Hines' comments make it quite possible that this is a screenshot and not a photo.

Yeah, if you compare that to the mountains and the fog it could be from the same engine...

You can see the same kind of trees in the background of the screenshot with the wolves.

I know some of the developers have tweeted about having screen shots of the game as backgrounds, maybe the update will be a background man I'd love that.

I think it's just a photo for inspiration, but it's pretty blurry, so I can't really say it's too realistic to be a screenshot.

Of course they're the same kind of trees, guys. They're PINE TREES. One of the most common types of tree there is, and not solid evidence that it's a screenshot.

I'm talking about the way they blend in with the fog. It looks similar to the trees way in the back of the wolf screenshot.

People around here are just amazing. Jumping at the first tiny glimpse of something that has even the smallest chance of being a screenshot, and then defending their claims with everything they can possibly imagine.
There is no way anyone can prove that that is a screenshot, and I seriously doubt that any developer would come here and tell us what it is.

Yes, is it not amusing?

OT:

Oh I saw it!

It indeed looks awesome! :3

But no snow on the tree brances! D:

But maybe some are working on it.

It may be a screenshot from a non-snowy region.

I disagree. I'm pretty sure they slip these teases in on purpose, after all, they edit the videos how they want, and they're aware these things will picked apart voraciously over here. So I don't think they'd leave a photo present in the published video.

lol... yeah those low riding clouds... wish they had a name for that...
