6 "New" Screenshots Discussion

I think people were complaining more about the moving water.

Which also looks great.

The complaining is about the rapids that you see in the trailer. And I don't see any rapids in those screenshots, so we'll just keep complaining :P

A lot of people underate the sound in games, but I guarantee those rapids will be more acceptable if the sound was like real life.

Have you ever spent time in Les Houches / Chamonix? That is exactly what the sky looks like...

Actually, the sky doesn't look like that :)
On very rare occassions, the sky can be almost white when it's cloudy though. Note the underlined part though.

BUT, if you look at the trailer and everything, you notice the sky is incredibly over-bloomed everywhere all the time. This is very wrong.
Bethesda need to change their HDR settings. It doesn't look good with a nuclear-bloomed sky all the time imo.

That is Gamebryo. You are blind if you can't see it.

That's interesting. How many times have you been to Les Houches and looked up at the sky in the morning from the bottom of the valley?

And they were saying the water looked bad. It looks great!

THAT water looks great. The rapids at the trailer looks like they've mixed water with cow milk. At equal quantities.

The screens look great. And knowing that the PC version will look EVEN greater by default, and that it has DX11 support makes me a happy panda :)

How many times have you been outside on a regular day?
Be relevant to the question in mind please. And I repeat myself yet again:

"BUT, if you look at the trailer and everything, you notice the sky is incredibly over-bloomed everywhere all the time (except for the Fall Forest scene and two overcasts, but in general; definitely over-bloomed). This is very wrong.

The HDR should never be so strong that the sky is nuclear on a normal cloudy/clear day.

Oh, you mean the WHITE water rapids. When water splashes down a rocky river bed rapidly it turns white. Turn your tap on full blast, does it not look white?

Not "the moving water", but "the water moving down a cascade", i.e., the waterfall from another picture. That one looked really 05-ish.

No need to get tetchy. You probably have a point for the default sky - but with the mist/fog off the mountains, every time I've been to Les Houche the sky looks exactly like that in the morning.

Doesn't matter what happens on a regular day unless you're lucky enough to wake to such views where you live...

How the water looks in the gameplay trailer is not how it should look. Trust me, there's a rapid just a kilometer away from my home and the water isn't that white.

I do think the water's not finished yet though. The devs can't be that stupid to actually leave the rapid water look so weird.

Nothing is wrong with the way it looks and I hope they leave it as is.

Okay sorry if I sounded tetchy. And you have a point as well. Mist/fog, combined with overcast. Yes it can look bloomy irl.

But my real problem is that it looks like a nuclear bomb had just gone off on almost every pic. Like in the trailer. Look at the scenes of the cities especially. The sky is way too over-bloomed.

This can be changed really easy. Well, at least really easy in Oblivion.
Here's the mod All Natural for Oblivion. Looks a whole lot nicer to me:

That does look nicer. Beth must prefer their look because they have around 100 team members that see the game everyday. I'm sure if they wanted to change the look of the sky they could, but I guess no one has brought it up on the team.

True... but it has been confirmed Skyrim won't look much better on PC except for more AA and higher res textures (how hi-res, we don't know either).

I love the fact that the wolves seem to be circling the PC instead of attcking head on. The wolf in the background might be trying to flank the pc while the two infront are acting as distractions.

Anyone else looked past the muscles and armor and got turned off by the ridiculously edgy cave? I'm right now looking at a nicely smooth cave in Oblivion's 2005 screenshot and then after taking a look at the Skyrim's screenshot, I'm thinking - WHAT THE [censored]???

What's wrong with being edgy?

I wouldn't worry since these are all old screenshots.

It looks cheap and feels like we're back in year 2000.

Old screenshots or not, that's pretty much how the game will be.

Looking at these pictures of the environment (provided you ignore the wolves and mace in the first one :P) makes me so excited just to run out and explore. Just wandering around the beautiful world is probably what I love more than anything in Elder Scrolls games.

What console game were you playing in 2000 that looks that good? Please do tell.

Wow, the draw distance on the grass/shrubs in the wolf screenshot looks very impressive. I'm not sure how the grass appeared on the pc/ps3 versions of Oblivion but on the Xbox 360 the grass would practically pop up like 2 feet in front of you as you were walking. I'm glad that it appears to be fixed in Skyrim.

New engine and 5+ years experience with the current consoles has done wonders for Skyrim.
