New Skyrim Community Poll

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:37 pm

We have a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1252690-skyrim-community-poll. This thread is being provided to discuss the results, and comment on the poll itself.

This thread is not intended to be an in depth discussion on all five topics. People are welcome to discuss their selection, but if you want to discuss the romance system itself, or get help choosing which platform to get Skyrim on, you're better off using an existing thread.

Good poll mods, can you set another one up in say 3 months to see what we actually did?

I like to look at it as a test to see if people can actually read, a very rare talent on this forum, or the internet in general. :P
On Topic - I must say I'm rather surprised at some of the results so far.

If you lock a poll no one can vote in it.

If you your anticipated choices don't match what happens you should be able to delete your vote and re-cast it. I don't see us putting up a new poll unless we want to change the questions.

Do you have, perhaps, other poll ideas? I can think to ask players after a few months many questions, including the following:

What town/city did you first visit? What farm?

Whom did you first kill? (as there are many NPCs, perhaps it's just best to specify a race)

What faction(s) did you first join? What faction(s) did you choose NOT to join on your first playthrough?

Did you win your first dragon fight?

What stealth/combat/magic skill do you like best? (Three part question, I'd imagine)

What shout/power granted AFTER character selection do you like best?

What is your favorite way to deal damage (swords, maces, poison, claymores, bow and arrow, destruction magic, etc.--lots of choices)?

Did you have a plan for what your FIRST character would be like? If so, did that plan change drastically as the game progressed?

------------------------

I could think of many, many more questions that can only be answered by someone who has spent a great deal of time with the game, and would therefore be appropriate some months after release. I'm really fond of the idea of one such poll, so, if you fine folks decide against posting one, I would be more than happy to do so myself :tes:

Edit: Just want to compliment you ladies and gentlemen on a poll well done :foodndrink:

Why not just discuss this in the other thread? Kinda lame to keep it separate.

About how often do you guys get people replying in the poll threads even with all of the warnings?

A good poll it was. I was not too terribly surprised with the first two, PC and Morrowind being the winners there. But I must say I was suprised that Dunmer got beaten into third place by Argonian!

In the pinned thread? Given that we lock threads when they hit 200 posts, having to clear out 190+ posts every week or so is a lot of unnecessary work. This is much easier.

The first day or so of a thread like this going up we'll usually get a handful of posts. After that it's rare.

Do you have, perhaps, other poll ideas? I can think to ask players after a few months many questions, including the following:

There is a limit of five questions per poll, and we lean towards questions that are general or very frequently asked. I'm open to the possibility that we'll want to replace this in the future, but I specifically tried to select questions that would have a lot of lasting power.

Cool, can this note be added to the poll so people like me who don't think of that do update it?

I realize many new members aren't familiar with the "delete my vote" option, but I don't want to clutter up the post with lots of information - it just makes it less likely that any of it will be read.

If we get a lot of queries about this, however, I'll happily reconsider.

I chose "probably not" as it's something I've ignored in other games with this option. I wouldn't be surprised if I eventually try it out to see what the hubbub is about, but in terms of normal play I'm skeptical to say the least.

It is a nice poll. :)

Thanks :)

Don't take that as an insult buddy. I said that, because the sense of curiosity will go there.

How come PC users are outnumbering console users? I thought it was the other way around.

I thought it was the other way around.

Why did you think that? Are there market stats to suggest it is so? If that's the case, then I guess that the discrepancy is just a reflection of forum-usage; fewer console-gamers use the forums than PC-users.

Why doesn't anyone like the Legion? After everything I did for the Empire in the last game I am sure as hell not gunna let the Jarl of some miserable little town tear it apart! Not on my watch!

Interesting poll.

I'm not entirely surprised that PC gamers are such a majority of the poll. For one thing, it's on the forums and PC gamers are used to going to forums/mod sites, etc more than console gamers. And Elder Scrolls has always had a lot of PC players, more so than other game series, since it's so mod friendly.

I think it will get better over time once the novelty wears off.

The moderators appear to be getting a grip of things now and locking down the tiresome threads. It's not that I don't condone complaints and criticism, they just need to be made constructively. Once people are educated in forum manners and ettiqette we'll be golden.
