I expected/wished Skyrim to look like this: http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1634/hunterwk.jpg
Or this: http://h-5.abload.de/img/crysis2008-10-2614-18-1mqa.jpg

Here's all of them, on Gamestar (includes all the pics seen before, including the dragon perched on the big wall, the mountain giant, the archer in the woods, and the skeletons)

I love the forest in http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/bilder/original/45309,92621,2198719.html. Probably the best landscape/foliage screenshot so far, in my opinion.

Well, this thread shouldnt go to waste: http://www.gamestar.de/spiele/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/news/the_elder_scrolls_5_skyrim,45309,2320882.html there are some more screens, previously only seen in magazines.

Nice, thanks for the link!

Doesn't the hair in pic 4 look a little... bad to you guys? Hi-res textures doesn't seem to be the main focus on the console versions.

What is picture number 8 in that list? It seems to be complaining about AdBlocker, but I don't run AdBlocker.

It's just an ad. Don't bother.

It seems that it was delayed today too. Hopefully it'll come out tomorrow with some new info.

It's been delayed for thursday! The site now says 10th of february.

to be honest the waterfall screenshot imo seems to have a lighting problem... seems like a cloudy day's lighting but even so, I can't pinpoint the light source. Judging by the light on the rock on the right of the waterfall, the water should give more reflections, it's a bit dull. Also the colors are a bit washed and the whole scene is a bit unnatural.
Hunter's screen also has the same issues, dull colors, low res textures and no AA.
But I don't really care, it is better than Oblivion, and we haven't seen videos which would give a much better sense of the graphics.

Thanks for those, been looking forward to seeing digital versions of those. The 4th shot with the dragon looks awesome!

*edit*
The snow effect really is pretty cool, remember that is created dynamically in game.

The NPCs look massively improved (minus the hair. Why the heck is it that only Japanese devs know how to make decent hair? Bethesda and Bioware are downright terrible with their "plastic hair helmets").

Exteriors look marginally better. Will really need to see more screens and some video footage to judge. Supposedly the detail scaling over long distances has seen a big upgrade. The GI shot with the wolves still looks the best (that and the 3rd person snowy mountainside).

Interiors definitely look better, thanks to the universal shadows.

Just wondering about othes peoples' thoughts about this... Kinda related to the topic.

I just checked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOwzTYEvIWI. It's in a similar environmental setting, with a world twice as big as Oblivion/Skyrim (around 36 square miles), with great technology. It came out for Xbox 360 only in May 2010.
So I was wondering, do you think this looks better than... http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235967b.jpg ?

The video is in motion, but if you want screenshots of the game you can google them.

Alan Wake looks incredibly stunning I think. Much better than Skyrim's screenshot in the woods. I hope I'm wrong though...

-------------
The autumn trees look very very beautiful. I still think that the lighting just isn't right though. It needs some work/tweak in my honest opinion.

Alan wake doesn't have hundred of NPC behavior to handle, thousand of creatures and their AI, more than a hundred dungeons, sidequests, and above all, let the player free to do whatever he wants instead of following the plot if he actually wants to advance. And in Skyrim, it has been said that EVERY thing you see can be reached. No "background" mountains or forests.

Alan wake is an awesome game indeed, but you can't compare the two just by the size of the playing area. You have a LOT of features to compare.
Skyrim with alan wake graphics or crysis ones would just kill our machines.

Here are the same screens as before but without a magazin logo (they obviously forgot it):

Has anyone else noticed how utterly horrendous the texturing for the quiver and the garments looks like in this image?

Yeah, I'm nitpicking.

Yup, I noticed that too.
Hi-res textures doesn't instantly make the graphics look better though. But they do need to look better. Some are really low-res (look especially at the waterfall-wood pic, and the quiver and garments as you mentioned), which is sad for an almost 2012 game.

----------------------------------------------------------------
In my opinion, the lighting needs to be worked on quite a bit more, which is also one of the most important parts of a game's graphics.
The water and waterfalls too. It should look like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1gummzdqOo, not like http://www.gamereactor.se/media/59/elderscrolls5_235967b.jpg. Even though there is a difference between the sizes of the waterfalls, I'm sure you see my point.

The game doesn't look bad. It looks decent, OK. But it's below average for a game released near 2012. I was hoping for it to look better though, seeing as how a lot of the time I spent in Oblivion was like when it was released "Oh such beautiful nature and graphics. Looks great!". I don't get that feeling at all looking at those screenshots. Morrowind was amazing for its time in terms of graphics. Oblivion was also pretty amazing for its time.
Skyrim definitely doesn't look amazing for its time, which disappoints me a bit.

Let me say it again, consoles have only 256mb of texture memory. The textures aren't going to be high resolution in those screens, because they are console screens.

Why does everyone compare to Crysis? Have you actually played it? It's one of those tunnel driven games where you move along a set path. No open world, no real variety in the world. It's a one trick pony. Crysis is also shooting for pure realism which I don't think is needed for TES. In fact that's what they seemed to of aimed for with Oblivion and look how that turned out, it's certainly got boring visually fairly fast. Then came Shivering Isles which was brilliantly beautiful, even now. It's held up better for longer because it had style. Crysis was memorable for being one of the best looking games around, possibly even still is to some, but it also game with the problem that it took an incredible expensive and powerful machine to run at close to those settings. I am all for pushing boundaries but at a certain point I find it ruins what gaming is about...people being able to just play the darn game.

I don't think the graphics "controversy" will go away anytime soon. The fact is it's the first game in the series released on the same platforms as the previous game, we should all be amazed by how much they have improved it using the same hardware. When the next xbox, ps, and whatever else is release THEN you can say the game should look exponentially better. Either that or they go back to PC exclusive (which is not happening).

Skyrim, as is, looks great. Why make such a fuss?

I don't see how people were expecting massively improved graphics anyways - they are building it on the same console as the last game. In my opinion though, I think it looks amazingly better than Oblivion's graphics (which have not aged well at all, minus the Shivering Isles). I cannot wait until we get to see a gameplay video, just to see how it all looks in action.

While I do think the screen with the waterfall is quite bad (something is definitely wrong with it), the rest of them look great and up to par with the latest games. The only thing it needs badly is anti-aliasing, and higher res textures on some parts. Luckily, I am on PC so both of those are a non-issue.

The screenshot with the hunter going after the elk looks amazing, especially the trees. I love the one with the dragon perched on the ruins, as well as the one with the wolf pack.

@DCDeacon http://www.oxm.co.uk/viewer.php?mode=article&id=17301 That an early build of game? Love everything but water looks meh.
@MrTissueBox Yes it is, and you're nuts. Water in the game looks fantastic.

Did anyone notice the broken tree? I wonder if trees will be breakable. If not, it's still a nice detail, something that was not in Oblivion.

It's probably broken from the start. But I do hope trees will be destructable. We have woodcutting after all, I mean...
It's not very hard with today's technology to make things destructable...

Anyway, anyone else that think that the autumn trees look reallyyyyyyyyy nice? (although anti-aliasing is heavily needed) :D
I can stare at them forever :P

Good news. I hope he's right about the water. It doesn't look too good on the waterfall-in-the-woods picture...
