New spell ideas?

Gt any ideas for spells that could be added to the game that aren't in any currently?

Maybe raising the dead could return as a spell instead of as a power, and perhaps spell-mines would be cool.

Add Enemies Explode as a beginning spell and heal superior wounds :D (joking)

I think something along the lines of being able to control another NPC would be nice (make them walk around, set off a dangerous trap or just distract enemies by running them into a different room from where you are). Not something like command! Actual direct control. Depending on the level of your skill you could do more things with them? E.g. at first you can only make them walk around / push buttons but eventually you can fight with them etc.

On a similar note, how about an OBE style possession spell that lets you control NPCs (more powerful ones at higher levels and not important ones maybe) from an actual distance (your body would be paralysed during this time), like ACTUALLY becoming them and controlling them like your own character? Although they'd have to make it a criminal offense and count what you make them give you as stealing to avoid abuse of it. It would probably be part of illusion, conjuration or mysticism.

I think that's what I actually meant but I like your additions! Paralyse would definitely be needed and a criminal offense is also a nice touch

To the previous poster - Abe's odyseey did it! I'm sure the Bethesda crew could figure it out :D

I like that idea. Especially the idea of controlling animals and monsters. Imagine ripping bandits apart as an ogre while your mage hides in the bushes.

Well I liked a few of the suggestions that .bob. put in the other thread about gaining spell effects that could then be combined to make spells.

Maybe spell effects that are gained as you level that when combined with other ingredients/skills learned/objects/other people then create full spells.

Though as in that thread I must state in this one - please remove spell buying. Please do not cheapen magic.

Spells are one aspect of any magic. What else could affiliation in a faction or school of magic provide?

First there should be some basic spells similar to the spells in vanilla morrowind and oblivion. When you eventually specialize into a spell school, you will gain spells that are not only more powerful, but look vastly different aswell. For example, with high destruction, you could summon a meteor from the sky when you are outdoors.

However, the awesomeness of this has to be compensated with more variety in melee combat aswell. Mount&blade style directed hits and blocks would be neat (even though i doubt this since the game will be on consoles aswell), and a basic kick for anti-shields as in the same game, and a few special (non-flashy) attacks such as a TF2 spy-style backstab, or a sprint attack charge and/or maybe having a melee combat generally similar to the dark messiah, which would be the greatest thing ever.

Some Ideas that I think would add diversity to magic options for pure mage, hybrids and even non-mages.


- Self targeted illusions i.e. make the PC appear as a different race or monster including faction setting.
- Temporary weapon enhancements e.g. flaming weapon.
- Glyphs and Sigils as placed traps with moderate duration (60-90 seconds) would be good if they allowed trap making too as a non-magical version but thats not on topic...
- Out-Of-Body projection / astral projection, allowing mysticism based characters to scout ahead in a floating and intangible form.
- Shrink/Grow, debuff/buff and utility, allowing caster to fit into tiny places or reach high places
- Chapeshift/Polymorph another flavor of shrink/grow, but more variety
- Time warp, slowing or temporarily freezing enemies.
- Enhanced telekinetic repulsion, basically a knockback
- Summon shadow/mist to obscure visibility in an area for sneaky types
- Wall of Fire/Ice/Storm

And, not a spell perse but a change to spell options
- Cone Shape area effect (rather than just target/self sphere)

A high level spell where you create an shock sphere around you, and every enemy that touches the sphere is instantly killed. It only lasts like 15 secs..

Sorry, I thought you meant like giving commands to the NPC as you play, like attack, heal, retreat etc.

Those ones all sound great, though I'm not sure the shrink/grow one would fit well into the game mechanics. Another one, maybe you could create an illusion decoy, like a low cost summon except it can't actually do any damage, it just appears there as a copy of you and confuses the enemy as to which is which.

wouldn't mind seeing:

wind-based spells

rock-based spells

darkness spell (like Namira's Shroud) -- blind making a return would work too

fire/ice/maybe even shock sword/other weapon -- like the bound weapon spells, but elemental. They would do some damage based on your skill in that weapon type, but most damage would come of the type of the element of the sword

acid-based spells

the return of mark/recall

I wouldn't mind seeing some impedimentary spells either - spells that slow down the enemy.
