New strategies needed.

Post » Sun Mar 20, 2016 1:56 am

You know, after hearing about survival mode and the new additions, we need to plan our attack alot more. Originally, I only had a few settlements, but now it seems that settlements will be a huge part of survival for a restock of food and water due to no fast travel, and even take a nap to keep yourself rested and save your game.

No longer is it wise to fight all willy-nilly, as the current slow heal plus the danger of disease from creatures such as mole rats makes things interesting. The Glowing Sea will be a huge challenge now, as there are no settlements or cities to stop for supplies, and it is extremely dangerous and full of disease-causing bugs.

Thinking about this stuff only makes me more excited for survival mode, and I'm already planning routes for my wasteland expedition.

Is there any strategies any one else is planning?

1) wait for survival patch to happen.

2) making a new char.

3) trying it out.

4a) having a laugh, return to normal gameplay

4b) getting angry, a game won't beat me!

4c) go to the forums and whine.

Light loadout, lot's of basic equipment left at as many settlements as possible. Take notes of where beds are - as only beds will do a full recovery. My weapons will be Explosive Assault and deliverer. I generally play stealth and move in between kills when taking on mutiple enemies

1- Will have to plan what weapons to carry, cutting back from the 6 I carry now (4 non-auto rifles, 2 non-auto pistols), because I can't carry unlimited ammo.

2- Assuming there will be a requirement to eat and drink within a 24hr period, I will also have to plan what foods/drinks to carry and how much.

3- Settlements will be important weigh stations for supplies and sleeping, but I'll also need to consider the attacks that happen, no more popping into the middle of a fight, got to leg in back in time to help.

Real time travel is actually faster then "fast travel" travel because "fast travel" is calculated at walking speed while in real time travel you are running all the time and even sprinting. I actually fear that food and water will be too plentiful (as was case in NV). It would be neat if Bethesda would add "spoilage" effect to the food, that would make scavenging for food actually more interesting. Raw food might even spoil faster then prepared food. Even nicer would be recipe for smoked or canned food.

Anyway, lets see if Bethesda will manage to balance survival aspect well. I am definitely looking forward to Survival mode. I just hope it will not be tied to difficulty level.

There already are complaints about survival being "too hard". I think a lot of people don't realize that survival will force new strategies and that they'll get to do things and explore places that are currently not on the map as marked locations. It'll basically be a whole new game. First of all, it's likely they'll have a few bases where they stockpile junk and resources instead of just using Sanctuary for the entire game. Places like Hangman's Alley are going to be more important due to location. And all settlements will probably be visited a lot more than now, where you go only to defend an attack. Yes there are going to be a lot more strategies that open up because of survival mode.

So many of the new features I already apply to my own game threw self discipline.

Eating drinking and sleep/sit and wait if I can't find a bed when it gets dark.

I don't do settlements other than a single homebase which is a glue factory. It is amazing how much junk you don't have to pickup and lug around when you don't have settlements or the MM to deal with.

I only carry 5 weapons(10mm, shotgun, sniper rifle, 6 nades and 6 mines) and none are legendary.

I use the vertibird to fast travel but most of the time I prefer to walk or run.

I am looking forward to the new survival mod and hope there are a few features in it that BGS will surprise us with if not A Wanderers Edition mod should be right around the corner and will fix survival for sure.

Haven't seen any claim it will be too hard. It is other things people have complained about, but not that it will be hard.

Lure a deathclaw to raider camp, or something like that, then use a stealth boy when the s?it is going down.

light load as possible, slow methotical clearing and discovery. Knowing some of the main settlement points from my first play through once I reach them most likely not leave them for several game days or RL days while I build the new settlement... use the locations close to that settlement to scav and then book it back and continue to build it out until it at least produces excess food water and defense. Then continue to push out and look for the next closest safe area.

I've noticed during my current survival playthough im a little to eager to keep pushing onwards in the sake of questing.. but that will have to change.

Use an insanely high level character with the best everything, just to test it out See what you need and what you can live without . Then plan a new character around that.

- Take all perks available

- Get dressed in Ballistic Weave and best armor set

- Fully modded Gauss, Fat Man, and Nuka Grenade with total ammo of 9999

- Loaded up Stimpaks, Rad X, Rad Away, Med-X, and Psycho

- Complain in the forums cuz enemiez are too weakz

lol

Nah, for me I think I'll just proceed cautiously and keep walking in the day time.

When the sun is setting, I'll just head to the closest settlement or any nearby camps I remember.

Yeah, FONV "hardcoe" wasn't exactly hard, so I doubt the new Survival Mode in FO4 will be.

I want a really desperate survival mode, where I'm FORCED to bludgeon a supermutant over the the head with a rolling pin in a desperate struggle for survival over a piece of radroach meat, or pummel a ghoul with my bare firsts because resources are so scarce. Where Cannibalism is a necessity, not a larf.

Not going to see that I'm afraid. Even with shark jumping "hardcoe" sleep to save or no fast travel mode in lieu of something really cool.
