A New RP

Post » Sat Oct 02, 2010 9:59 am

I know this Rp has so much potential, but we don't want anything to go wrong so lets make sure we polish this until it shines before we put up a sign up, anyway I need to rest or...I will be, weird to say the least. Anyway I hope to discuss this tomorrow, due to are time zones you both will probably be up way before me, so see you guys tomorrow

Aye, guess I got a little carried away.... :P

But, it's quite ambitious, and as such, will probably be thinking about this for the rest of the night, and next morning. :banghead:

So, I'll see you guys later, and discuss this more tomorrow. :D

Ah, here's a quick draft of something that could be used. Just as a note, it's just an example, and does not mean this will be used in any way.

http://img253.yfrog.com/i/mapexample.jpg/

Just use the linky.

http://img253.yfrog.com/i/mapexample.jpg/

-------------------------------

So, I guess I could be the Cartographer, eh?

And, of course conflict with raiders, and trying to defend the camp/settlement/town/city/metropolis/citystate/nation would be another part of the RP.

Note: I just listed the possible steps of the settlement evolving. :P

Silly Cat, you are now the designated Cartographer. This means that you must keep the map up to date with the current expansion of the settlement. You must also decide the best placement as cartographer, along with the help of the Colony's martial leader, who may be me or Yttrium.

Indeed. So you know, it took roughly 3 minutes to make, so it wasn't exactly a giant use of time. But as said, it would show progress, and I would love at the end of the RP, to show all the maps, and show everyone the evolution of the town.

This could turn out to be a great thing. The whole process of building up, combat, maps....

The type of RP I always wanted to partake in....

Well, I would like to dedicate this Rp to my wife's Alaprazolam (and the panic attack that made me take it) for letting my mind wander, and come up with the idea that a joint effort of people could come together and make a great RP.

I know this Rp has so much potential, but we don't want anything to go wrong so lets make sure we polish this until it shines before we put up a sign up, anyway I need to rest or...I will be, weird to say the least. Absolutely correct Yttrium. We have to get down to the very fibers of this RP before we even THINK of posting a sign-up. By the way, I'm terrible at writing sign-ups. I'd like it to be a long and very detailed one with few spelling errors and rather organized. Any takers (this is for the future of course).

I wouldn't mind joining. You can look at my story (sig) to determine if you want me. I tried one some time ago as well called A Bar on the Road to Nowhere (http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=891417&st=200) but it kind of fell apart. Too bad too, I had this whole King/Lovecraft/Poe thing planned out. My character was going to start losing it more and more until the others either abandoned him or died, as in keeping with Lovecraft.

Have you put any thought into what part of the country it would be in? Cali or NY would allow one to make hints at what would come in the future, but someplace in the Mid-West or just general Middle America would allow more a tabula rasa.

Texas or New Mexico could have that whole Tex-Mex kind of thing, Mississipi or Louisianna could have the bayou stuff present in Point Lookout, North Carolina would have Kitty Hawk (Wright Brothers launch point), Oregon or Washinton State might allow some stuff about the Canadian Annexation, Florida could have gators and all manner of water based stuff....plus Post Apocalyptic Disney World (assuming it made the transition) could be interesting

I have actually been thinking of where the Vault would be. I'm gonna go on the vault wiki and find a list, then we'll all decide on 3 of the best choices that Yttrium and Silly Cat, and me, choose from via PM.

Screw it! Lets just make a Vault up! The ones I looked at on the Vault Wiki wouldn't fit in the RP all to well. Unless Yttrium or Silly can find a suitable one.

Well you don't necessarily have to come from a Vault. You could be survivalists, or the descendants of people who were in a Non-Vault underground facilitiy when the bombs hit.

You could even just be people who lived in a small town that didn't get annhiliated by the bombs and wherein there was minimal post-Apoc Chaos. Hell we could do Alaska if that tickles anyones fancy and just say we're a group of people who were raised in a Weather Observatory in the middle of nowhere.

I think it would be a breath of fresh air to not be Vault Dwellers personally.

Since it's BEFORE Fallout 1/2/Tactics/3 we might even come out of a Vault already used anyway, if set in California that is.

Vault 6 has no known purpose and is set up in Washington State (Mt. Saint Helens)
Vault 8 opened just 10 years after the bombing, it had a GECK but we could have left immediately due to some political unpleasantries or something
21 is in the Mojave Desert and it's purpose is not yet known (Wont be known until NV comes out i assume)
Vault 34 The armory was overstocked with weapons and ammo and not provided with a lock. -Location Unknown
Vault 36 The food extruders were designed to produce only a thin, watery gruel. Location - Unknown
Vault 39 Original purpose unknown. Abilene, Texas
Vault 53 Most of the equipment was designed to break down every few months. While repairable, the breakdowns were intended to stress the inhabitants unduly. - Location Unknown
Vault 76 This Vault was designed as a control group for the vault experiment like Vault 8, intended to open and re-colonize the surface after 20 years - Location Unknown
Could even be Vault 13 cast outs, not like the Overseer wouldn't lie and just send some troublesome people away.

Those would probably stretch from the West Coast to just East of the Center of America i think.

I have an idea:

Wichita, KS

All the players after they hear of the war with China and the threat of nuclear warfare, they build bomb shelters and new homes in the near barren waste of Zenda, KS which is near Kingman (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?act=findpost&pid=0. In the area are valuable oil fields, streams. forests (no doubt burned all to hell from the nukes, bey hey?). I'll build my house out there, while some of you guys may stay in the city or even go out into country like me. Then we all meet up as Yttrium said and begin the town.

HOW DO I GET THOSE [censored] LINKS TO WORK!!!

Your onto something dudes =P, I know your looking for experienced people and I guess most people write better than me seeing as they're older. I would love to join this but I have exams coming up and I need to study, if I did join this I doubt I would active (as you can see in my Rp).

But I'm gonna read this Rp when it comes and I have a feeling it's gonna be a good one :)

Oh don't worry Iain, the RP or Sign-up won't be up for a while, we're just in the planning process at the moment.

EDIT: And as long as you be completely realistic with your character (not a hardened criminal who happened to escape and find a shelter) and make sure your posts are over the point of adequacy, I will accept you. This RP is about average Joes who survived the apocalypse, take serious effort in building a town and perhaps rebuilding a bit of society, and try to fend off other survivors (aka Raiders and Marauders.).

wow I posted only yesterday and you guys are already on a new page. I like the map idea and through it's all about location, location, location. Someplace important to America which I am my obviously non bias judgment it could be placed in Atlanta ,Ga which I think is mentioned once in fallout 3 or my other idea is to place near Norfolk Virginia cause of the largest naval base in the world is their and other than that scatter around that Virginia area is multiple military bases which could add up for helping create a town. And don't forget all that country between Richmond,Va and the coast. Lots of mireulurks.

I always wanted to find one of the labs where they created deathclaws before the war.

Wichita, KS is the Air Capitol of the World. It sits right on the Arkansas river. And some other rather important things have happened here.

Another vote of my would be Jacksonville, FL. So we could go and make St. Augustine our town hall.

Everyone post their suggestion on where we should be, then we'll all take a vote. I'll tally them and whichever gets the most gets chosen. Of course though, you must provide info on the place, its benefits to the town we'll build, as well as the threats that would come from it.

I say Wichita because it has lots of old buildings, tall ones, as well as some real open places, perfect for ghouls and raiders!

Well I use to live an hour from Jacksonville and visited St.Augustine . I think if you did that then the fountain of youth should be guarded by the church of atom because somehow it has become incredibly radiated. It's also the oldest settlement in America.

Also about north of Jacksonville on the Georgia/Florida line is a nuclear submarine base. I thinks its name is King's Bay.

Jonas, I can understand if you have any trepidation with me joining (If you'll recall I signed up for 'The long winter', and never posted.) But, I've been wanting to do more fallout stuff, comes easier I guess. So whaddya say?

Hello to all of you, it's great to see more people interested in this RP design. As of sign up stuff, that will start later on, so don't fret. In the mean time, we are simply trying piece everything together, come up something all of us like, and then do sign ups.

As for a location, somewhere midwest would work well. Plenty of empty space to build upon. As for a specific location, i'll think over it after my guitar lesson. :P

Wow, can anyone recap what has happened? For location I had originally put Texas into mind, Cali was the origin of the BoS and I don't want to be close to those. But it's up to discussion, I don't like the idea of cali or anything on the east coast, not that I have anything against the east coast... And DB I would love it if you'd helped/joined.

Yeah, what I had in my head was people looking of a flat expanse of dry land, scorched by heat and ruins of settlements laying in the dust. Gets a nice hopelessness and desolate feel to it.

If I can, and It's possible, I'd be willing to write something like a newspaper article every time something major happens. Then again, the billboard could be used for that. In which case I'd like to be able to handle the billboard, unless someone else was already going to do it.

I have no objections, the others will have to agree. The news would be at the top under a heading like IMPORTANT or NEWS and you could post the news, with the date next to it maybe to keep track of the events.

Well the reason I don't want it in the west or mid west is that I don't feel like being at just dust and rocks. I would like someplace near the coast where plants have actually some sort of importance. Not full blown pointlookout but, places with small herbs and mutated plants that have some importance. Also the coast always has water that can be filtered out as long as you have the machinery or the rad aways. The Midwest just seems like nothing is their.

About the news idea seems interesting.
