New TES Games Bringing New Gamers Restarters to Older Ones A

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:22 am

So, I can't help but notice that the Morrowind board is more active than it was before Skyrim was out. Some older threads have been revived, there've been some cool new ones, and there have been some of those "I'm new to MW and need a little help" ones. I've been off this board myself, but when Skyrim came out, I found myself coming back here. And now I'm mainly lurking in the Morrowind side again. :P

I've been away from the gaming world for awhile actually, only just bought a new gaming computer for Skyrim. Newest games prior to Skyrim I've played of my own systems are from somewhere around 2004-05... So I haven't payed that much attention to gaming forums, either. Besides Morrowind and some other older stuff. Anyway, does this usually happen? That a new part of a gaming series comes out and thus seems to bring many players - old and new - to the older versions as well? Do you even think that releasing Skyrim has helped Morrowind, in this case, to become more popular again?

I′ve noticed this too. Before when I got here I was usually alone and nothing had happened with the threads. I think many people who are new to TES, thanks to Skyrim, want to discover the other ones. What were they like and how did they work? I definitely think new games bring attention to the older ones which I very much approve of! But I′m greatful the MW and OB forums aren′t clogged like the Skyrim one. Too many people is just too much as no one′s input gets read as it′s drowned in all the others.

Morrowind is a great game and worth this attention and so is Oblivion. No bashing needed for either game :tes:

Agreed with everything you said there! :) Yeah, I generally like, say, "less active" boards more than "more active" ones. You don't have to visit them every two hours, or in Skyrim's case every two minutes, if you still want to find your previous messages. I like how these Morrowind forums have had slow but steady discussion going on all the short time I've been here. But I have nothing against the forum's popularity growing a bit as it now seems. :) We're not in danger of getting a topic flood here anytime soon anyway...

Let's just see how long this new coming of Morrowind takes before the minor fuss around it dries down again.

Could some older users tell if this same minor Morrowind boom happened when Oblivion was released in 2006? And was the discussion here much more active back then anyway? I'd guess the activity has generally decreased in here except when these new games come out...

In the run up to Oblivion various Morrowind forums were very very active , but i think many people weren't actually playing Morrowind, they were interested in TES games generally . The Silgrad Tower team abandoned their Morrowind mod , mid 2005 relaesing what they had done so far some 6 months before Oblivion , thereafter it was mostly discussing ideas for mods for Oblivion and making replicas of Morrowind assets for use in Oblivion over on their forums.Nevertheless there were still a lot of mods being made and a lot of activity around Morrowind

When Oblivion was released activity on the Morrowind forums dropped off enormously to next to next nothing initially , but started to recover because a lot of people didn't have pc's good enough to play Oblivion , also a lot of people returned having decided that Oblivion wasn't for them. Nevertheless Morrowind did have a strong following still but Oblivions was much larger.

In the yaers between Oblivion and Skyrim activity around Morrowind stayed fairly constant but was only a fraction of what it was prior to Oblivion, Old faces come and go regularly , new players regularly appear for various reasons , perhaps Skyrim has encouraged them to try Morrowind , maybe they bought a TES bundle off steam, ? Maybe they heard Morrowind was great game and decided to give it a try.

Before Oblivion there was only Morrowind forums for TES fans to congregate whereas today they are spread out over 3 games so activity on the Morrowind forums is tending to thin out a bit , When skyrim was released Morrowind forums again dropped off to just a few posts , but same as before, having given Skyrim a try a lot are coming back as well as new players entering the community for whatever reason , as well as lot of old faces returning home if only to see how far the game has advanced since they last played.

I think the Morrowind Sound and Graphics Overhaul mod did a lot to spark fresh interest in Morrowind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r6hilB6Dlc , 62,000 downloads of the mod so far , surely an outstanding feat given Morrowind was already 9 years old when released,

I would hope so.

I may have only posting on this forum for a couple of days or so but I did start posting here because of the release of Skyrim.
Please note, I do not own Skyrim so I have not played it yet but I do own Oblivion and Morrowind and love the latter far more.
I do like the forum being reasonably quiet right now as someone stated before it makes it so that you do not have to check the forum every 5 minutes
