New to the world of Fallout

If you are a particularly aggressive character you will be nearly level 3 before you leave the Vault, lol...you are going to hell anyway, you might as well take an honour guard with you.

I disagree with the double barrel shotgun though. It's fun, and the reload time is fast, but it's only good at close range, and once they get inside the melee distance it's useless. The CAR/AR's/Xuanlong/LR are more effective and just as accurate at that distance, or you can fall back on scoped .44's or Blackhawk, etc in any case. Personally, because I picked up PL a long time after I had the game, I saw the firearms from it as already being obsolete by the time I could get them. The Axe though, is brilliant. You can't go past a good piece of hickory...especially if it's got a sharp lump of metal on the end.

Tag Lockpick or Science and one of the skills of which there aren't too many skill books for in the game

There are 25 skill books for each skill except for barter, there are only 24 for that skill.

If you take the comprehension perk at level 5 [take Educated at 4] thats 48 skill points for barter and 50 for the rest.

If you do a lot of exploring, start with a decent int, you could have a fair number of skills maxed out by 10

And exploring is half the game.

Just keep on going in the main quest. Once you finish a quest called The Waters of Life, you will end up somewhere and have to ask someone.

ok, too bad the ghouls creep me out. Will setting the scientists essential ruin the game at all? I hate loosing them all to a pack of Enclave with plasmas.... or the ghoul ambush, because i think the BoS dude would die. (i run in front of them and unload a clip or two of my SMG before i die)

If you have the DLC Operation: Anchorage you get powerarmor training at the completion of it

Spoiler
You also get the Winterized T-51b power armor that is virtually indestructable

It wouldn't hurt to make them essential. That's what I do.

I wouldn't still be playing the game if it wasn't for the Perforator.

I got a perk from one of the DLC's that got the damage for the Perforator up to 60. In addition to Action Boy...the only thing that I haven't been able to kill in one attack (four VATS shots) is Overlords...

Sounds like you have Bloody Mess [+5% damage] and probably Superior Defender [+5 dmg when holding still]

If your a vats fanatic get the Tribal power armor and Ledoux's Hocky mask, gives you a net gain of 38 AP should get you an extra shot off with the repeater, maybe 2 depending on what your AP is at right now. Pop some Jet or ultra Jet and between chems and the two peices of armor above and thats 68 [jet] or 78 [ultra jet] more AP

The Lincon's Repeater takes 30 ap each shot in vats.

If you don't wanna cheat by setting them as essentials just tell them to wait, clear the area ahead of you from any enclave soldiers, and then ask them to follow you again. As soon as the ghoul ambush starts they all tend to run inside the tunnels leading to the Citadel where they are safe. The ghouls are no match for your character, your companions, and the BoS dude. I've played this part several times and I never lost any of the scientists.

If the ghoul ambush near the end is a problem you can always run past the BoS dude and up the tunnel untill the scientists are clear then double back just incase the BoS guy gets killed. Your companion may end up staying back with the BoS dude, helping him fight the ghouls while you get the scientists to safty so its unlikely that any ghouls will be coming up behind you.

Or you can tell the scientists to wait, along with your companions to guard them, move up ahead and set out some mines inside the room the ghouls come through. Good place to use any bottle cap mines if you have them. Also if your feeling your wheaties you can go in there and simply kill all the ghouls so that you only have to worry about 1 or 2 when you open the door to the final streach of sewer to get out.

This is one of the streaches I always bring a companion along with me, so that I can leave them behind and not have to worry about something coming along and killing them. Dogmeat and one other.

:chaos:

Sweet

+85 Agility 10 = 85
+25 Action Boy[Girl] = 110
+30 Jet = 140
+40 Ultra Jet = 180
+15 Tribal Power Armor = 195
-2 Tribal Power Armor [-1 AG] = 193
+25 Ledoux's Hockey Mask = 217
+20 Nuka-Cola Quantum = 237
+NukaLurk Meat = 257 AP

Using the Repeater at 30 ap a shot in vats = 8 rounds

I dont think that the Overlords can survive that kind of damage in all head shots......
Hell, even the behemoths could be hard pressed to survive.......

I shakes my head...lol...

It also works if you put a couple of darts into them to slow them down, shoot all the weapons off them, and then take your time teasing them and plugging away at the head. Saves developing a jet habit, and wearing, ummm, funny clothes...(okay, subjective on my tastes there...lol).

My first chemistry set, you can use that to get rid of your additctions.

Also the whole thing is to make sure each hit lands with that hard to get .44 mag ammo and take down the almost-as-hard-to-kill-as-a-behemoth mob quickly.

I'll drop you some of my 2000 odd rounds of .44...It becomes quite plentiful later on.

I've also played a character through most of the game with a substance abuse habit...it's not easy....(that is, he had the habit...not me)

Body Replacer- No.

Other mods- What are you looking for? Do you want new houses, armor, weapons, quests, perks, enemies to fight?

I tried that... i am not looking for a mod that takes over 1 hour to install unfortunately. I don't have much time between, School, Homework, Chores and Dinner. All of which takes up at least 60% of my day. :( so i can't download that in one session.

Try Underground Hideout for a new home. Kikaimegami's Liberty Rifle mod contains my fave new energy weapon. A lot of people like 20th Century Weapons but I haven't tried it yet.

uh oh.... the crashes have begun. I really wish i had the $3000 for an alienware.

Is it mod caused, or just one of those annoying random crashes?

Edit: link for M4 please (whoops! NVM, read post 2nd time  )
