Just got past the Power of Atom and have a question about my Megaton House

Are the containers safe to store stuff in? I've noticed the mailboxes in springvale reset, i don't want that happening to the stuff in my fridge. I hate lots of goods to put in it :)

Everything in your house in megaton is 100% saved. and once you progress far enough you can even possibly re-outfit your house for the right price...meaning lots and lots of caps. Which comes with even more storage.

Good weapons and ammo are becoming hard to find. My SMG keeps running low, my Hunting Rifle svcks... i have 1000+ caps but Harith and Moira don't sell any good weapons. Should i restart from my save at the vault exit?

No! You are in the early stages. It should be a little tough. What level are you and where have you been? Did you get anything to do (quests) when you were in Megaton? The SMG is an awesome early weapon. I always consider myself so lucky to get one early on.

I am level 4, i have been to Springvale Elementary (graduated with an A+ :P), Super Duper Mart... some place in the wasteland infested with raiders and rats. Yeah, i got Wasteland Survival Guide, Blood Ties, an unmarked quest involving Leo Stahl, another unmarked quest involving Walter, The Power of Atom (stole a hunting rifle, and saw beer in Lucas' kids room... :biglaugh: )

Just payed the :swear: 100 caps for the info... i wanted to kill him so badly.

I think i will restart anyway. I realized i forgot to put my specials the way i wanted them. It wasn't hard getting to level 4 anyway.

It sounds like you have been all over the place. I hope you are having fun. The only way for you to really get more ammo at this point is to keep exploring and looting. Make sure to look in every type of container you see until you've learned what holds what. Moira's quest is a great way to keep finding new places to go or you can strike out on your own. It sounds like you have done great if you made it through the School with an A+, Super Duper Mart and Raiders already. I assume you know that Moira can repair your weapons for you if you can't find spares to do it yourself. That hunting rifle in Simms' house is in lousy condition. All the weapons are in pretty lousy condition in the beginning.

yep... i still want to know why Whiskey was in Harden's room though... or was the Bobblehead in Hardens room and Lucas had a teddy bear under his bed.

I think I can answer why you found booze in the kids room. Much like the dark ages its safer to drink than water. No rads.

As for the Hunting rifle, its actually a very good weapon more so if your a fan of accurate shooting and keep it repaired.

I dislike automatics because they chew threw the ammo so fast, that can be offset by using VATS which reduces the spread it seems.

If you have the DLC for Operation Anchorage, do that now. At the end you will be able to pick up a lot of good weapons, power armor, stealth suit and explosives. Also on the way in you can loot the supermutants which usually have good weaons even at low levels. Hunting rifles and assult rifles, sledgehammers and grenades.

I'm sure there is no drinking age in Fallout...Plus, poor kid was born into an apocalyptic hell hole, I'm sure every now and then he'd just like to forget all about it.

question: Is there anything useful by the Minefield?

Is an Assault Rifle and Leather Armor good for level 4ish?

Arkansas has a Sniper Rifle and some .308 ammo.

I would say that that is a good setup for level 4, if you have enough ammo for the Assault Rifle.

the one in the rock, yeah. I sold it so i could by My First Nuka Cola Machine. 5 rads, 20 HP :) good if i only need a few HP.

I also decided to rob Jericho and Lucy West dry, was that a good idea? I tried Simms but Harden kept running outside and getting his dad, i could only take the Fridge, Teddy Bear, Bobblehead, Rifle and whiskey before they both came in.

OK, more questions : Should i join windows live? NO!!!!!!!!!
How often should i use vats? When in a tricky situation and/or when your character feel good in front of the camera to take a screenie
is full screen more fun than windowed? Yes
what is the cheat key? i want to remove it from my keyboard That is the console key. The wavy key below the Escape. I only use that for taking a screenie in other words screen shot at my character dead or live and posing at my character trophy
How can i remove a keyboard key? What that? Just go to option in the game.

Your megaton [or tenpenny] home is the safest place to put stuff.

I think most of the containers in the game are safe. I put my stuff in three containers in the wasteland one in Tenpenny tower, two a steel container in one of the houses in Springvale and the other in the raider strong hold near the Citadel. The wreck bridge one.

Really? I finally have a PC that works with FO3 again and my GOTY is on it's way in a truck right now from Amazon. I don't use VATS much anymore but that's too bad. Is this happening to everyone? I played my old vanilla game all weekend and had great fun with it and can't wait for the DLCs to come. I love PL that makes me so sad. My 360 version is so perfect.

GOTY VATS works just fine in the DLCs and the wasteland. The only problem is a slight hesitation when you first bring up the VATS button. Also, you can't target thrown grenades as we are used to doing. :( I predict you will soon be hooked on mods though. (Like that's a bad thing...)

I prefer Bullet Time to VATS.

Yeah. It's a great little tool. I recommend blowing up some mutie heads with it. I also use it when my computer is lagging. It helps.

First welcome. When building a character use balance on skills and SPECIALS. I go by the "6"principle". I raise all SPECIALS to 6, (some perks require a minimum skill and a minimum SPECIAL) this allows me to select perks at a level that requires a core amount of 6. Adding say the shady hat for perception will raise you SPECIAL, but not to pick a perk like sniper at level 12, so raise all SPECIALS to 6, even charisma. Collect clothing and add ons that will raise you SPECIALS (lucky shades, lucky 8 ball, Ranger battle armor, etc.) Some would argue 6 for charisma, but at level 10 pick animal friend perk and the animals will actually help you fight enemies like raiders, death claws and rad scorpions. SAVE, on poster already mentioned this. Save before picking locks, hacking terminals and speech challenges DO not count on auto saves. I try and save at the minimum 1 save per level if not 2. My last auto save was corrupt just days ago and I lost a few hours of play because of it. Collect the bobble heads. If you want to have 10 on all specials, leave SPECIAL bobble heads where they are and pick almost perfect at 30 and go retrieve the bobble heads. Collect as many skill books as you can and take comp perk at level 4. This will double your skills per book. Use VATS more earlier in the game. NO just for combat, but use it for scouting. If a red blip comes on your PIP boy, go into VATS and see if you want to fight or avoid the enemy until stronger. Most important, experiment with characters, god or bad and don't be afraid to ask a question, theres good people on this site that will kid you from time to time, but they will help you in a heart beat.
