New Todd Howard Interview with IGN

I'm pretty sure 'main stats' refers to Health, Magicka, and Stamina.

Could be, but if there are main stats, there should be not main ones. It could be seen as attributes being main stats and health, magica and stamina being secondary ones.

Good Stuff:

Taxi System: OH GOD YES YES YES YES THANK YOU!!!!!

More Armor types: Lovely :D

Stats are in: Thank gawd, I would hate if these were out Edit: Oh yea, jus read some of the other comments, this may refer to health/magicka and stuff.. tha would svck :(

Different dragon types: Great :D Would hate to face the same dragon all the time

enemy encounters too hard for you to handle: GREAT I hated how every encounter was tailored to my level in OB

Bad stuff:

He avoided answering on spellmaking, indicating that they still havent been able to put it in :(

They treated the idea levitating as a joke? I think it's a pretty valid request

overall a great inteview :)

YES! Morrowind style fast travel :D

It sounds more like Oblivion/Fallout 3/Arena style fast-travel with an optional Morrowind-like carriage system.

most certianly, but it is way more than I ever expected them to do. I honestly never expected them to impletement a taxi system again, the fact that they did makes me so happy :D, no more being forced to use that damned teleportation system

That's fantastic, but those games didn't have a teleportation system. If they did, the presence of that system would completely clash with a carriage system. Time elapsed in those fast-travel systems just as time elapses with carriage systems. Carriage systems can take a player to locations they haven't been to before for a fee, however.

I was going to wait to buy Skyrim until a mod with transportation system come out.
Now I don't have to anymore.
The carriages-thing is really good news. I wonder why they didn't mention it earlier.
Perhaps our reactions to it on the forums changed this? :D

Well, I've long had a suspicion that that is why the PC version is getting it's own UI, but there really isn't any way to verify that sort of thing. Not unless someone on the inside fesses up.

well, personally I wont mind it THAT much that they've included the teleportation style system, they didn't have much choice. I imagine that if they did take it out, a lot of the people who only played Oblivion/fallout 3 would rage. I believe putting both in is the best solution over all

@ Mitheledh I certainly hope we'll get our own UI, from what I can understand, the UI described so far sounds really really console'ish

He didn't mention anything about finishing moves being turn-offable, but he did acknowledge that combat is the meat of the gameplay and that finishing moves wont happen every time combat ends (like New Vegas =/). Hopefully they will be pretty scarce or optional (like New Vegas :P).

Rest of it seems okay. I expect a "jump on dragon to kill it" scripted event now after the "you can't ride dragons in the way you're thinking" debacle. :P

Edit: I don't get all the fuss over the carriage system. I would make a fuss if it was the only way to fast travel, because that would be a bold move. This is just a way to get to some new towns or to pay money to fast travel instead of just choosing to fast travel only to major locations yourself.

There is no teleportation system. It's a system they've had, in one form or another, in all the major Elder Scrolls games but Morrowind. In Skyrim, the uses for the two seem separate. The carriage works as a separate option that provides a benefit of safe passage to non-visited locations for a fee while the travel-to-places you've been system, will be another option that also has its own purpose of being useful to visit places you've already been to for no fee.

I wouldn't be surprised :D
Many people wanted the Morrowind system back.
However, if the carriages turn out to travel in real time, it can't be a last minute addition, it's not that simple.

We are getting our own UI. It was confirmed after 10 pages of PC gamers raging at the obviously console biased UI described in the GameInformer article.

I love going into a new area and getting my ass kicked by some (at the time) god-like creature/person only to return later in the game and be all like ''yeah, I'm back mother [censored].'' I hope there is bits like this in Skyrim. Loving new(and old) Armour types being in, bit unsure about custom spells not however.

he also said the places you havent been as a way to seperate the two in practial applicatino for people who will use both. But in fact it sounds exactly like the MOrrowind system, which is great. And it is indeed a teleportation style system, you go to a map, choose where you wanna be, and poof there you are. I realize it's supposed to be you traveling there, but with no penalty, risk or other effect other than pointless ingame time spent, it might aswell be teleportation. I am very glad they've readded a more immersive way to get around.

Yeah, I think it's time to take out my four year old 8800gtx (you have served me well) and invest in some space age tech to rock Skyrim on. And a new sound system for those shouts. B)

I couldn't disagree more. The real time carriage riding in RDR was a huge waste of resourses and development time. It was cool for about the first 5 seconds then you realized it totally defeated the purpose of a paid fast travel service. I might as well just ridden my horse to my destination in real time. It really added very little or no value to the game. I hope Bethesda didn't waste time implimenting something so useless. Hopefully it is just a paid fast travel service similar to Morrowind.

Your main point is that the carriage system was a waste of resources, but that isn't a very good one if people like myself thoroughly enjoyed the system. Also, if you really didn't like the trip between towns you could go to sleep and skip the whole event.

You also need to look at the system as an alternative to things like loading screens or slower means of travel. They are implemented in it's proper place, with proper reasoning for it. It's not a haphazard element just thrown in there because developers like carriages :)
