New Todd Howard Interview with IGN

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 5:50 pm

I'll start off by saying that having Carriages is a brilliant idea and the dev that came up with the idea deserves a :cookie:

That dev or devs can have all of my :cookie: That's what most of us were wanting all along.

That, plus DX11 support (no matter how limited it is) is enough for me to have my faith mostly restored in Skyrim. :twirl:

Now, I'm off to look up whatever other info I may have missed over the almost 2 months I haven't been on here. :read:

He just confirmed having main stats, that you level once per level up. I know some people were worried about Strength and stuff being taken out. Should calm some of their fears.

The main stats are health, magicka, and stamina. Not attributes.

Didn't someone say that we wouldn't get new info about Skyrim for 30 days, Hm must've been an early April Fools joke.

Pete tweeted that there should be more stuff" in the next 30 days". While I enjoyed this interview, I hope he was referring to more than just this.

I'm pretty sure a Podcast is coming eventually because Nick's tweeted about editing it recently.

IGN: Finally, a few silly questions. Is there a unicorn in Skyrim?

Todd Howard: That's DLC. For a hundred dollars.

IGN: Can you ride dragons in Skyrim?

Todd Howard: Not in the way you're asking.

Can you levitate in Skyrim?

Todd Howard: Another DLC. Three hundred dollars.

Also will be using .nifs, which means we don't have to get used to a new file format :D.

They must have bought out Gamebyro when they went bust then?? Otherwise they wouldn't have the .nifs??

I love that Todd say the release date is "as solid as can be" and they are focusing on cramming everything they can into the game now.

Only very very very few modders know how to deal with DX and graphics code and such. Timeslip is one of them.
Not sure where he is or what he does.

But if he upgraded Morrowind from DX 8 to DX 9, maybe he could add tessellation? I sure hope so...

..........................what happens if an enemy comes near you and your talking to an NPC, is the enemy going to attack you to death while your chatting with the NPC.

This has been covered before, with regards to the player being able to just walk away from a NPC while they are still talking, and either return while they still talk or the NPC will stop talking and walk off.

This means that there is no switch into a conversation mode. Enemies will be able to attack you while you talk, and you will be able to defend yourself also, the game is still playable as normal while you have a conversation at the same time.

So.. no spellmaking or levitation confirmed now?

Blast, this is bad news indeed.

Theyll have to handle spells really incredibly well for it not to be a dealbreaker for me.

I bet that's probably why they aren't fully using DirectX11. It would take too much time to fully develop DirectX11 and it lets the modders work on it, also Beth could possibly get new ideas from the modders on how to use the graphics, easily the best of both worlds here.

T.Howard:
?I got randomly hunted by three (Dragons) of them at once in the game last week, and I assure you that's too many at once... (...) LLLOOLLL....

I can see it now, the return of the cliffracers, only they're dragons this time... Oh boy.

Todd said exactly why they're not implementing them. Their art direction is to keep the three versions looking similar. Utilizing certain features of DX11 would make that version of the game look distinctly different from the other two.

Didn't you read... (no offense)?
The reason why they aren't fully using DX11 is because they want all platforms to look moderately equal. Tessellation would make such an incredible difference almost everyone would wanna buy it for the PC (as long as they have a PC that can handle it of course).
I guess a lot less console versions would be sold then. Who knows, maybe Bethesda got this deal with Microsoft and Sony (Xbox 360 & PS3) in making the game look equal, in exchange for money?
Or they're just doing it because they like a balance in graphics.

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS BOSS FIGHT WITH ALDUIN [censored] CONFIRMED.

GAME OF THE DECADE RIGHT HERE, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.

also carriages is neat. DX11 support is neat, too, and hopefully modders will figure out a way to dike around with tessellation.

tessellation isn't an AUTOMATED PROCESS. tessellating every single object in the game just so a small subset of PC gamers will be able to go OH IT'S PRETTY and then [censored] about casual gameplay and [censored] animations isn't worth the effort.

I enjoyed the interview. I love the fact that we can ride carriages as an alternative to fast travel. I would assume its to every city and probably most of the towns. Maybe a few other places but those would be for sure.
