New Towns Setting/Implementation

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:12 pm

So, I just wanted to get people's opinions on new Town Mods-- specifically, where they prefer to see them placed?

By "In the Tamriel World Space", I mean Mods which are actually IN Tamriel (i.e., like the default Towns are meant to be towns of Cyrodill). "In a New World Space" means a Town elsewhere-- maybe on an island, or in another country, et cetera.

By "Open" I mean like the Open City Mods, where they exist in the Main World space, and can be entered without loading a separate worldspace; Closed is the opposite-- how the Vanilla Towns are.

Thanks for your answers :)

A bit unsure of what I should vote. I really want new towns added outside Cyrodiil, but in Tamriel, e.g. either using onra's Tamriel project, or adding them just outside the borders Cyrodiil - anything that makes the world larger. It doesn't matter too much whether they're closed or open, but with a slight preference for open.

^ This pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. :)

OK, I've added a new Question, if that may help for those issues :)

Open would be preferable as long as this doesn't force a reduction in content to keep FPS happy. In the Tamriel worldspace, but outside Cyrodiil's borders would be great, as that's where all the unused space is so conflicts are so unlikely. I wouldn't really care whether they were near the borders or far from the borders, although if an excellent town mod were created a long way from the borders, this might encourage modders to create other content between the border and that town to fill in the emptiness when travelling between the two.

Pretty much what display name said. But... are you talking about towns or cities? There's a big difference there.

I am not sure right now on the Towns/Cities thing :( This project began as ONE solitary castle, and then grew into "Hmm, maybe a small village", and then "Hmm, maybe the village should be in the walls", before "Hey, how about the whole town is built around this castle!!" :S

So, it is still early days-- probably more Town-ish at the moment (based on the current structure, too, you can see into each area from the Castle-- so that may affect the Open/Closed question.

Leave it to me to be the only one (so far) to vote with an "other" response - because you didn't have one that fit with "doesn't matter where as long as it isn't clashing with something else". I obviously favor the open part.

I suspect you're pushing close to actually talking about cities, at least as far as Oblivion has defined them. Not that I consider anything other than the IC to be truly large enough to be an actual city.
