anyone else feel this way?
Vaults were better in previous games, I hope DLC has one or two
Vault 81 is my favorite Vault in either Fallout 4 or Fallout 3. Nice to see a Vault that's actually functional.
So far they seem very small and uninteresting. And I only have found a few so far....how many are there?
Not in spoilers so probably shouldn't reference any specific numbers folks.
But in my experience the vaults (apart from 111, which I agree is very spartan) are quite nice, extensive even. I haven't found all of them yet.
I agree with the OP. I hope that DLCs will add a sufficient number of Larger and more interesting vaults, including a few "normal" ones. Every vault = experiment is getting a bit old.
I feel like they're bigger and look way better than they did in previous games °_°
but I would've wished there were more vaults in the game
Don't really see the point of making
There were 121 or so Vaults made, according to the Fallout Bible. 112 was just the highest number vault we saw in Fallout 3.
Yup, definitely agree with OP. Vaults are pretty much [censored]e in FO4, sad when something like the Dunwich Site is more interesting then any of the vaults. Makes you wonder wtf were they doing all these years of development. Still like the game but some aspects definitely seemed half arsed.
Whoops. Must have flipped the numbers in my head, especially because of Fallout 3.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Yes its cool, only others I know about 101 who worked and the one in New Vegas who was turned into an hotel.
Now you could easy imagine an village build on top of an vault, top is for farming and extra living space, vault is for security and advanced stuff. Probably how 81 will evolve in 1-2 generations.
Fallout usually contains a horror vault, one that is out of the way, unexplained, and where you have to piece together what happened, I don't feel like any of the vaults achieve this in a meaningful way.
You have a vault full of generic enemies that had chem issues
A working vault with a bunch of rats, who's atmosphere is broken by the most irritating quest condition imaginable.
A gangster filled vault.
The school vault is almost horror, but again is ruined by generic enemies
The starting vault is almost the most horrific of all the vaults, the atmosphere works when you start out and the sense of doom is pulled off well, but of course going through it multiple times detracts from that, as it does in any such situation.
Almost every Vault was an experiment. That's the entire point.
to be honest thats what missing from this game. allot of the atmosphere of fallout 3 is missing. most vaults seemed to be clearer in more ways than one. I really hope DLC will drop soon rather than later, because it getting rather boring. same goes for mods. At the very least some more info about both.
I didn't really find them to be disappointing. They're all at least reasonably large, offer some kind of challenge, and have an interesting story to tell if you take the time to read all of the terminals. More Vaults would definitely be an improvement, but that's something that may be addressed in DLC.
Agree with the OP here.
The vaults where exciting in past games, in this game they do hold some interesting details in their experiments, but the experiments arent as wacky (though equally devious) as previous fallouts and the enemies residing in them ruin it.
Bethesda will always beat Obsidian in one area; World Building, and in that sense the contents of the terminals in 4 are, in my opinion, ahead of New Vegas's Vaults, however, FO3 had more exciting and interesting vaults, and Obsidian have always been better at integrating the vaults into the core stories. Something I feel, and kinda wish, Bethesda built upon.
One thing that was somewhat successful is Bethesda letting you imagine the outcomes of the vaults instead of outright telling you. The outcome is somewhat obvious, but the space for imagination to really make them interesting is still there.
