New Vegas awe inspiring moments

Post » Tue Mar 17, 2009 7:54 am

Like the title says, what moments or sights made you struck with awe?

For me, it'd have to be the view of New Vegas at night, all those lights in the distance are so beautiful.

Another one for me is
Spoiler
The Boomers B-29 flying overhead and bombing The Fort. Truly a beautiful moment.

Here I thought I was the only one to appreciate the subtle things in the game. I agree, at night and at about 10 AM it's a beautiful overlook. I wonder if Vegas looks that beautiful from afar in reality. :cryvaultboy:

Yeah its the best thing I remember, first thing I saw to basically after coming home from the midnight release and staying up til 5 in the morning absolutely hooked.

Vegas in real life is pretty cool, but from far away, the Strip, is kinda drowned in a ocean of lights. But the Strip is pretty cool up close!

Strangely, the first thing that struck me in the game was seeing the Goodsprings saloon's neon signs at night, along with the creaking, swinging sign. And I like the darker filter of Black Mountain (during evening?). Or the moon rising over the Boulder monument.

There hasn't been too much that struck me a whole lot visually....I like the graphics fine/they work for me, but nothing too awe-inspiring overall. Early evening and night are my fave times for color and contrast tho...with the NV city lights in the distance, or a lot of fire ants/fiends spamming fire & lasers.
There's something about the haze of mid-day (on my pc at least) that I really don't like, however. It robs everything of contrast and I keep thinking my monitor screen needs cleaning. lol

I can just imagine my PC and NCR troops shouting and cheering seeing that bomber in the mid-day sun, the screams of the bombs hitting the Legion positions and watching it fly off in the sun. Beautiful. :cryvaultboy:

@Lady Crimson- Well, I'm a svcker for scenery, so anything that looks pretty makes me go 'oooh'

That's why I only use one companion and barely interact with him. I'm not a very 'squad tactics' person. I just do most things solo.

I had many awe inspiring moments playing FNV. Some of them could happen to anyone...

Spoiler
President Kimball's speech
Meeting Mr. House in person (rather than on a telescreen)
Audience with 'Kaiser'
Boon shooting that old lady

Some of them are more driven by your own choices or are caused by the specific circumstances. Arriving at a beautiful location at a given time of day, or the way an ambush is orchestrated or a fight breaks out.

Spoiler

For example, I reluctantly picked a fight with the Chairmen after trying every other way of getting into Benny's suite. This was early in the game when things were really dangerous. Me and Veronica took on 4 or 5 bodyguards, me throwing dynamite on loads of chems and her with a 10mm submachinegun. The battle was over in a couple of seconds, but the drama was in the preparation and finally deciding to do it.

I agree, with all that technology in there, it kind of gives you this mental reminder of who the Enclaver were, and this sense of government lost there.

@Madoc- Augh, a literal context joke.

Nope, where !
I was completely serious, I spent around 10 minutes finding the best spot to take that picture... it's a great spot full of light and texture.
I did not make any reference or joke on purpose... lousy rep.. sorry if I led you to believe it to be so.

Awe - Awe is an emotion comparable to wonder[1] but less joyous, and more fearful or respectful.

Firing a mini-nuke at the fiend with the dogs. It had been along time, (since FO3), and I'd forgotten just how much chaos mini-nukes can create. :ahhh: :nuke: :ahhh:
