New Vegas is a Fallout 3 Clone

I wish Fallout 4 will be powered by id Tech 5 engine, it looks good (Rage) and we can see that its perfectly suited for a post-apocaliptic world :)
Look what Id Software said about licensing this engine:

"At QuakeCon 2010, id CEO Todd Hollenshead announced that while id Tech 5 will be licensed to third parties, games using the engine will be required to be published by id Software's sister company Bethesda Softworks."

So, go figure :)

Nah. Fallout 3 was definitely more of the "Oblivion with guns" type game. Had millions of totally pointless locations that were there "just to be there" not unlike Oblivion, a lot of these being randomly pieced-together labyrinthine dungeons (mainly the subway system, that was horrible) that also seemed to have been inherited from Oblivion. Oh, and a main quest that started with having to find someone, and after having done that, just a bunch of fetch X item from Y location quests, concluding with a final quest where you're mostly just a spectator, which is also how Oblivion's main quest goes. Oh, and bugs is something that makes it closer to Oblivion, you know. Bethesda games aren't generally very stable until after a series of patches. I still remember that form ID bug Oblivion had, nasty stuff.

Nah, Fallout 3 lacked the depth that Oblivion and New Vegas has.

Fallout 1 and 2 had the exact same engine, the exact same textures, models (+ a few new ones obviously), generally looked the same and both games delivered unique, memorable experience. I guess it's the same story with F3 and F:NV with the main difference being F3 was vastly inferior in terms of storytelling and the main plot, F:NV is almost as good as the classics.

Now replying to the topic: yes, it's F3 with a bunch of mods (like the OST, ammo having weight, I think it was even possible, to some extent, to mod the necessity of sleeping) and a revamped alchemy from Oblivion (now split into the crafting system) - I'm not dissing, I enjoy those additions, I'm just saying.

Lets state the obvious here, Yes its going to feel and look like Fallout 3 because the game mechanics and graphics were made with the same engine. I do not see the whole feels like an expansion thing some people are mentioning lately. The game graphics and controls may be the same but the gameplay is way different then Fallout 3. Where before I could walk to Rivet City at level 4 and devestate Super Mutants, with FONV you need to stick to certain areas so you don't get slaughtered by Deathclaws and Giant Rad Scorpions, etc. I love both games for different reasons, but FONV IMO is alot better.

Anyway, I don't see F:NV as clone. At least not as much as some others. There is a certain resemlance (one could argue that a bit too big for the games own good) in the general gameplay design, but what sets NV miles above FO3 and separates it from it almost completely, is the writing and consistency of the setting. It's an inclination that something good can actually come up with this particular design. I remember I got (eventually) extremely bored with 3 because nothing I did mattered and nothing was interesting enough to worth a deeper dig. Fallout 3 was almost like a testsubject on how well can the franchise be mutated into this kind of gameplay - and since the test succeeded (saleswise, at least), NV was made with some of the right improving ingredients. I have to say, though... It's a bit of a shame that so little was changed in the end in the general design. It would've been even better a game if, when I stroll down the wastes or shoot something or use my pipboy etc, I wasn't reminded of the bore of past years which I am not keen on experiencing again. But that's just my opinion.

it is a clone, but it is in no way a dlc, mainly bc they were made by 2 different companies that have 2 different styles
