New Vegas is a Fallout 3 Clone

Post » Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:27 am

I swear that Fallout: New Vegas looks EXACTLY like Fallout 3. I was playing it for the first time, and my brother walked in. He said, " Why are you playing Fallout: 3? I thought you got New Vegas..... oh."

I don't consider it a bad thing though. Fallout: 3 was awesome, and I consider this a gigantic DLC. Thats fine with me.

But please give Fallout 4 better graphics and don't make it a clone AGAIN. Its cool once, but not twice Bethesda...

Im watching you :stare:

agreed. it felt like an expansion/DLC

graphics did not change and HDR is ridiculous. outdoor has an unnatural glow and for some reason indoor is so dark i have to tweak my brightness settinsg whenever i go indoor

hopefully this makes up with the DLC to come. $60 price tag for the same game i hope the extra money means more DLC in the future

Well from what I've seen so far it isn't really Fallout 3'ish.
It's more like this is the final product and that Fallout 3 was just a beta.
Both games are still awesome though but yeah they really need to give the engine an upgrade by the time of TESV or Fallout 4.

Hmm, Oblivion With Guns II. :D
Seriously though, I do consider it to be it's own game but it is very like Fallout 3 in some aspects just like how Fallout 3 was very like Oblivion in some aspects.

I'm not trying to belittle anyone here, but it is Fallout: New Vegas, NOT Fallout 4: new Vegas. It is going to be the exact same game, just with differences in story, items, etc. Not graphics, not structures, its all the same. Just like Halo: ODST, its an expansion. Just like Far cry: Instincts and Far Cry : predator. Just like F.E.A.R, and then the F.E.A.R expansion (forget name) before FEAR2.

This has been done many times in the past, I dont know why you guys are all shocked. You wont have something entirely new until there's a "4" behind fallout. I saw this as obvious.

BTW: I am 20 hours in with not one bug. Other than the occasional pip-boy bringup being hesitant, or the re-loop of radio stations. Other than that it is like Fallout 3 on N2O!

Off topic: Anyone know where to get all the necessary items for creating bullets?

fallout 3 costed 60 bucks , 50 for pc.
had atleast 60 hour playtime for first playthrough (for me atleast)
then dlc came each having around 3-5 hours of gameplay so if you got all of them for 50 bucks then you would get 25 hours of playtime...

They should not have the map packs so high , because it offers so little gameplay!
just like every game is right now!

Bethesda already said in an interview they are upgrading their engine again like they did after Morrowind, so I assume the next Elder Scrolls and Fallout games will look much better.

Wait, your argument is that since it has the same graphics it's a clone?

Just to further show Obsidian's laziness. The mining office of Sloan is the EXACT same as the Dave's House in The Republic of Dave in F3

There are many people who think that anything built on the same engine is not a true sequel. Of course if you think this way then Fallout 2 wasn't a sequel either.

Other then the horrible load times and the bugs, this now is Oblivion with guns, the depth that Fallout 3 should of had. Being compared to Oblivion is one of the highest honors one can bestow onto a game.

Nah. Fallout 3 was definitely more of the "Oblivion with guns" type game. Had millions of totally pointless locations that were there "just to be there" not unlike Oblivion, a lot of these being randomly pieced-together labyrinthine dungeons (mainly the subway system, that was horrible) that also seemed to have been inherited from Oblivion. Oh, and a main quest that started with having to find someone, and after having done that, just a bunch of fetch X item from Y location quests, concluding with a final quest where you're mostly just a spectator, which is also how Oblivion's main quest goes. Oh, and bugs is something that makes it closer to Oblivion, you know. Bethesda games aren't generally very stable until after a series of patches. I still remember that form ID bug Oblivion had, nasty stuff.

oblivioun had bad conversation options besides that i love it, and still adore it. :obliviongate:

im assuming they are taking so much time to realease a tes:5 because bethsheida is making a new engine, and its going to be better than gamebyro (its about time they got a new engine for their games). they got obsidian to make f:nv because there development staff is slower than most and now that they had 2 flagship games they had to get more done to please 2 potentialy different audiences(im sure most people like both fallout and tes but some people are more partial to one or the other). hiring obsidian is the best idea because they had the best staff for the job (ex fallout 1&2 writers and developers).

thats my idea on the subject. needless to say i likes all 3 gamebyro games but they need a better engine now.

About the same as saying that Fallout 2 was a clone of Fallout 1. Oh, and the constant demand for new games to improve the graphics so people can use their newest uber graphics gard is one reason that we get less content. See Civ 5.

dont forgert the grand theift auto series with only 4 true games, and 20 ish sequels.

all the inerdiants needed for making new bullets are made after recycling bullets. grab some bullets and go recycle them, you will et all the parts needed for making new bullets

People do not complain because the two games were made on the same engine. Many games are made on the same engine by different developers and nobody ever complains about it. The reason why people complain is because in the short time that Obsidian were given to develop the game they also had to recycle most of the assets from Fallout 3 and simply port them to New Vegas.

I dunno.

Yeah, there's no 4 after the name, and it's very much the same game as FO3. I don't know if I'll get bored quickly since so much of this is the same (same junk stuff just in a new setting). I wasn't expecting a whole brand new game, but I wasn't expecting to see the exact same paper weights again, either.

I like the changes they made to the skills, repairing, crafting, and whatnot, and the game's pretty good, but I see it as pretty much a clone. Different (much better) sizzle, same steak.

It looks similar because it's on the same engine and uses many of the same assets.

However, it still looks better, even in areas using nothing by FO3 assets. It really looks like they cleaned up the textures and improved the models.

They also added new textures to the game, but in same places they clash with the original textures because the new ones have a sort of cell-shaded quality to them where they give the same type of visual quality as, say, Borderlands. Mix those new textures with the old ones and it's like Frankenstein's monster.

Still looks ok though. I don't know how to feel about weapons in the game that look like they blatantly ripped off FO3 mods (which ripped models straight from games like Counter-Strike: Source). Am I the only one who thinks the assault carbine looks like it was made using the same assets from FOOK2 which used assets from CS:S?

the fact that they rehash/recycle things

they had 2 years and most of the models/textures are straight ripped from fallout 3. just because you moved things around and add a bunch of quests doesnt make it play differently. Now if this was marketed as an expansion then i wouldn't mind/care, bought it at the $30 price tag instead of $60

if they released a Sim-like sandbox where i can create my own environment i'll have a Fallout: New Denver out by January without voice acting and probably the same character models (im just saying the map and building wise, ill leave it up to other people to add their own NPCs and quests)

its like they took fallout 3, moved things around, add a couple new outfits, new guns. they basically just made a new map, dropped a bunch of quests and added voice acting

Detracting from the story, its the same thing. quests still play out the same

oh and buggy as hell
