They had around 2 years to create the game and it was pushed out the door too soon.
So, a counter question: What did you expect?

If we're gonna be blunt about it, it's basically an upgraded version of Fallout 3.
BUT! It's big enough to deserve to be called it's own game and not an "expansion".

I agree, New Vegas is hugly massive and a thrill to enjoy. although it does seen some places, building interiors and people seem to be the same. Have just gained access to no.38 casino doing jobs for mr house with that platinum chip.

Happy new year as well, i agree to some extent, the gameplay, interface, look and feel is the same among other things but i think for the most part that was to be expected at least on my part. The world is completely different it's more wide open and theres more factions and groups trying to make theyr'e way in the wasteland.

I think the further you get in the game the more new vegas will break away and feel further from fallout 3, and there are some new perks and benefits, in time i think you'll find new vegas to seperate itself from fallout 3 more and more. The feel is the same though, along with the controls but i think thats a good thing, the makers created a nice, friendly control scheme.

I do see what ya mean though, but i think the majority of people expected the same feel and controls and what not. Best wishes in 2011.

You can only do such much with Bethesdas limitations and they only had 2 years. All in all this game was excellent and it gave some old school fallout fans like me some sense of hope that the franchise is not entirely doomed yet (As long as Bethesda stays away from it).

Keep in mind that this is not a game developed by Bethesda and is not a sequal to Fallout 3. I almost would think of it as a stand-alone expansion. Bethesda will change up the Fallout world, but right now they are focusing on their other big IP of the Elder Scrolls. I think, given that Obsidian had limited time and where using a vast majority of Fallout 3 resources, created a very great and unique game. If you just started, give it some time, it will grow on you and you will begin to see differances. Just remember that a game set in a Fallout universe will have alot of Fallout aspects to it, you can't expect something completely different, yet want it to fit in the same universe as the other Fallouts. Anyway, that's just my few cents on the matter.

Happy New Years!

i must admit im hooked, i agree the play of the game is true to any fallout i played.
to be honest, if it is to be the same, the maps and wastelands are true to what we know and love.

Fallout 3's story was linear has hell, FNV gives you viable choices at least.

If you're not playing hardcoe, you're early enough in the game where you may be able to start over and play hardcoe mode. This is one big thing that sets it apart from (vanilla) F3. It doesn't make the game "harder" IMO, just more things to consider, more fun. And it makes all the cans and boxes of food that were sitting around everywhere in F3 finally mean something.

The story is more appropriate for an RPG and for an open world sandbox style game imo. Fo3s was too structured for there to be much variation in character and the way it was presented was at odds to the exploration aspects of the game. In NV the goal is loose and detached enough that you can buy all types pursuing it as well as not seeming so urgent that it clashes with wandering off and doing other things. It also handles deviations from the proscribed path better by writing for them so you're not as frequently faced with utterly baffling conversations.

As to the OP i guess it is a bit. They re-use an absolute ton of graphical assets but i don't mind so much as what they've done with them is so impressive. It feels like a real place much more than anything Beth have done. Little things like all the NPCs having a place to sleep (even the raider types), food and water sources, decent sized population concentrations and better difficulty zoning along with less blatant scaling make for a much more immersive world. In many ways it does feel like a Mod as it doesn't feel anywhere near as aimed at the mass market as Beth's last two games.

Ok,Ok,Ok.

These excuses about only having ''2 years'' and that the game was 'pushed out early'' are stupid.

Call Of Duty is FORCED out EVERY year and in-between they can change the engine and gameplay more than New Vegas has.

Look at MW and MW2, its a completely different engine in 1 and a half years time

So it is possibly to improve an engine or build on a existing one or build a new one in 2 years time.

New Vegas because its alot more like the originals. It has better story, better dialogue, more quests, better followers, Damage threshold, Reputation System, hardcoe Mode and multiple endings that tell you what happened to the people and place in the game.

The two are pretty incomparable. CoD is the epitome of linearity and scripting while NV is probably the best example of an open world player driven narrative. Also CoD devs release a game every 2 years with Infinity ward and treyarch swapping dev duties.
IW: Cod 1, 2, 4 and MW2
Treyarch 3, 5 and now Blops

As do GTA 3, Vice City & San Andreas, Gears of War 1 & 2, Saints Row 1 & 2 and Fable 2 and 3.

It's not that uncommon in a series. They can't completely revamp the game world and mechanics with every installment.

You are piss-poor wrong there. MW1 and 2 use the same engine. The IW 4.0 game engine. The same engine they have been using since COD2 back in 2005.

In short, CoD:MW2 is to CoD4 as FNV is to F3.

Take two screenshots; one from Modern Warefare and another from MW2,

Then do the same for Fallout 3 and New Vegas,

All im saying is there is absolutely no difference in between 3 and NV, im not bashing any game here.

+1 reivermk1

MW2 and Fallout.....this is comparing apples with bananas because their fruits. ((-;

You can compare a Straight Shooter with an open worlder with over hundred missions and ten times
the ammounts of if′s and what′s......Wise???
If u try to create a new engine for an open worlder every 2 years........GOOD LUCK ON THAT. LOL

But seriously does anybody here would compare a Movie like :

LORD OF THE RINGS with THE TRANSPORTER, THE GAMER or CRANK.... :sadvaultboy:

........Just compare the scriptbooks of these 2 Productions!!!!

-----Now read both Scriptbooks and correct the errors......got it baby!!!!-------

Back to TOPIC :

FALLOUT NEW VEGAS of course. Reminds me a bit more of the older Days. Fallout 2 was a blast
on Release Date. What a shame there was no BOXING RING in New Vegas
like they did in NEW RENO including the Mission BECOME A PRIZEFIGHTER.....and you could rip off the Masticators ear
like Tyson did with Holyfield.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY :celebration:
NOW WE FINALLY CAN ENTER THE SIERRA MADRE----THE GALA EVENT IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!!!!!! :foodndrink:

New Vegas is completely different from Fallout 3 the only similarities is the Engine, some of the weapons and armor, and the enemies. Everything else is different which isn't a bad thing although I do miss the Yao Guai bears from Fallout 3.

:banghead:

1.) FO3 is a copy of Fallout, and Fallout 2.

2.) FO:NV only has one thing in common to me, they have the same graphics engine.

If anything Fo3 is the odd one out. I don't get this statement at all.

Fallout 3, have the super mutants and Enclave as main enemies, water and geck are important for the main quest.
Fallout 1, super mutants are the main enemy and water is the important main quest.
Fallout 2, Enclave is the main enemy and geck is the important main quest.
Fallout 1, start as a vault born.
Fallout 3, start as a vault born.
