New Vegas Map

Post » Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:30 am

Since I've gotten this game I've been trying to just keep playing, telling myself that it will get better but, it never did. There has been many new thing added to this game which are great but, a lot has been taken away. Its as if the game went from Badass to just Pussified, for lack of a better word. The enemies svck. Geckos look like stufffed animals u win at a carnival, super mutants went from scary to looking like Shrek and even worse, the main "Bad Guy" faction is wearing SKIRTS?! It goes on and on. The main issue though is the fact that the map is MUCH smaller and what is left of it is just empty and boring. I can walk for a very long time without finding any enemies and when I do it is not much. The map itself is to small, You find a location every 1 to 2 mins of walking and there are too many bs locations. I found a location that was only a sleeping bag on the floor. Not even some empty bottles, a dead body...nothing! There are A LOT of these crap locations and its goes on. NO DETAIL. In FALLOUT 3 there was always stuff to look through and for out in the wastes...check the crates in the back of those big cargo carrying trucks, check for crates under water, first aid kits in boats, ammo boxes near dead bodies of enemies you just killed, ect... and one of my favorite things was the locations within locations. On the FO3 map, one location would end up having three, four, five other ones within it like sewers, utility tunnels, houses, shacks and more. My point is that when your walking around on the New Vegas map, there is nothing to look at, search for, and there is definitely a lack of enemies and we are already on a much smaller map than FO3. I think the D.C. area in FO3 is more detailed and much better than the Entire New Vegas map! I know there is much room on the map tor them to add stuff and definitely room for enemies EVERYWHERE! So if you agree just let them know cause ive been trying hard not to give up on my favorite title but things are looking grim if something about this game doesn't change soon. I personally know three different people who traded New Vegas in already. I have it for the xbox which svcks cause if I had it on PC I would just download some mods to make it interesting and they don't make this game for Macs anyway.

There is no main antagonist in this game, the Mutants looks like the original ones rather than the orcs-esque of CW, and the Geckos, well, they look like geckos since FO2,

As for the Legion, yeah, they use skirts, because the Roman Soldiers in the ancient era used it too, the same with the Greeks

and the maps is the only thing thats bother you?, thats not a excuse to trade a game, have you played at least more than one time, working with every faction, completing the side quest?

Its been 200 years, most stuff has already been scavenged, Super Mutants are supposed to look like that, Geckos are big blue lizards how is them being that bad? I assume FO3 was your first Fallout?

Can someone give me a TL:DR? (It's 6:21AM and I've been awake all night, don't want to read a wall of text. (OP, how about hitting the enter button once or twice when writing a post.))

Many things have just been reverted back to pre-fallout 3 ways so if you havent played the pre-deccessors its probably not the ordinary for you, But you do have a point, there is a lack in *certain* enemies and random encounters because lets face it, most people take wild wasteland for the alien blaster. Not like it does anything else, i'd like legion territory expanded and more skirmishes between factions get others involved too like the khans there basicly non existant in the mojave after boulder city. Im also tired of finding many locations on the map simply boarded up they dont need anymore locations just expand on a few and open some up. Sorted. :tops:

Actually the map's bigger and there's more stuff.

The map is scaled differently and you can see a larger border where no locations are available (the area is inaccessible), probably a mistake since it lead to whining about the map being smaller. Some of the barriers (invisible walls, mountain ranges) also affect the feel since you are unable to walk straight from one corner of the map to the other.

While it is slightly bigger there are, however, less big dungeons to explore, New Vegas made up for that by actually having a cool story that didn't pigeon hole you into doing stupid [censored].

OH NOES THE WATERZ! And DAD...that I met 20 minutes ago and I'm supposed to give a crap about that?

Most of the other stuff, mutants, geckos, etc is simply a matter of setting things right and making them appear more like they're supposed to.

I would have taken some more random encounters, though.

My point about the enemies is that they aren't scary, badass or whatever you want to call it and the super mutants do not look the same as in FO3. I used to fear them a bit n now they all look too friendly. I don't care that some can talk like humans. Obviously I know they are wearing Roman armor and the Romans wore skirts. I was also born just south of Rome. I completed it and now in the middle of second play through. I just think the map svcks. Fallout 3 map was much better and way more detailed. Exploring and fighting enemies was the best part about it. I didn't buy a post app. open world RPG game to go to the casino and play Poker or slots. I want to explore, kill stuff, and obtain loot. NOT GECKO MEAT!

Well there's your problem right there, FO3 was not "the original" Supermutants. FO3's Supermutants are panzies compared to the Masters Army. You do "explore and fight enemies" in NV, you just don't mindlessly grind generic raiders/mutants. Oh so you bought a post ap. RPG to play it as a FPS shooter then? I thought you played RPGs to you know, do the story and stuff.... FO3 map wasn't "better" it was jus ta big series of "attractions" that didn't have anything to do with any of the others. Each location was an Island in itself, often not making any sense as to why it's there, or how it existed for so long.

1. Since I've gotten this game I've been trying to just keep playing, telling myself that it will get better but, it never did.

2. There has been many new thing added to this game which are great but, a lot has been taken away. Its as if the game went from Badass to just Pussified, for lack of a better word.

1. I'm sorry to hear that.

2. I'm pretty sure you just avoided the censor filter, and I'd rather blame us being demi-gods once again than calling the enemies "weak".

1. The enemies svck. Geckos look like stufffed animals u win at a carnival.

2. Super mutants went from scary to looking like Shrek.

3. The main "Bad Guy" faction is wearing SKIRTS?!

4. It goes on and on.

1. So?

2. Different FEV strains, and there's a reason that Fallout 3 has "3" on the end, cause there were at least two games prior to it. So look up some facts before saying they went from scary to looking like Shrek, if anything, they went from Shrek to looking like steroid using liver-disease patients.

3. NCR?

4. Do go on.

1. The main issue though is the fact that the map is MUCH smaller and what is left of it is just empty and boring. I can walk for a very long time without finding any enemies and when I do it is not much.

2. You find a location every 1 to 2 mins of walking and there are too many bs locations. I found a location that was only a sleeping bag on the floor. Not even some empty bottles, a dead body...nothing!

1. It's not smaller, it's bigger, and one of the major complaints about Fallout 3 is that it was "too" stuffed with enemies in every nook and cranny.

2. Because it's realistic.

1. In FALLOUT 3 there was always stuff to look through and for out in the wastes...

2. Check the crates in the back of those big cargo carrying trucks, check for crates under water, first aid kits in boats, ammo boxes near dead bodies of enemies you just killed, ect...

3. And one of my favorite things was the locations within locations. On the FO3 map, one location would end up having three, four, five other ones within it like sewers, utility tunnels, houses, shacks and more.

1. ... Skill books?

2. Ahyeah, the over abundance in stuff.

3. Erm... I'm fairly sure that real life DC has those things while real life Vegas don't, and if so, New Vegas portrayed the world realistically.

Boone! thats it! Boone does wear a skirt and im kinda sure he might be the bad guy! I think.....well....ummm....actually I'm not sure he wears a skirt either.....prehaps its the Deathclaws?

well *breathes a sigh of relief* glad we got that figured out

-On topic though, in some ways I can sympathize with the OP. I'll agree that New Vegas doesn't have the exploration aspect associated with it, but that was always something that Bethesda specialized in and I love them for it (as well as the ability to create an amazing atmosphere, its unbeatable). Obsidian's specialties however lie in brillant dialogue and amazing quest and storylines and this is really where New Vegas shines. I love Fallout 3, its still my favorite game of all time and im not sure I like New Vegas more than it (indeed I still play Fallout 3 quite frequently), but frankly some of your comments OP seem to be more out of frustration than anything else and don't seem to make sense (Geckos as carnival prizes and shrek-based supermutants?). Simply saying "New Vegas is a stupid game because its not as good as Fallout 3" is not going to get you a lot of support, even from people who like Fallout 3 better (like myself) and using profanities to describe the game is only going to make matters worse.

-In conclusion, I generally thought Fallout 3 was a better game to respresent a post-apocalyptic America, however I also love Fallout New Vegas and have realized that I can't play it the same way as I played Fallout 3. In Fallout 3, I generally tended to ignore a good portion of the quests (at least in my latter playthroughs) and focused on exploration and creating mini-backstories for my characters. I now know that when I play New Vegas, I need to focus more on the main storyline and quests and have exploration as a secondary goal.

I
I know it's a desert but it's also an open world RPG game. In an open world game there is supposed to be detail and things to keep your eyes and mind busy as you are roaming around in it for whatever reason. Today I walked from the dead center of the map, to the most northern point, all the way west and didn't find even one enemy. I'm sure that doesnt happen all the time but close to it does and the fact that its has so little detail makes it even more boring. In FO3, I fight enemies every 2-5 min if a don't avoid the any of them. I've compared the maps many times when playing and FO3 has more action, detail and things to loot from or search.

I find there to be tons of detail and I'm kept busy by the enviroment(?) all the time.

Well, from center to north lies New Vegas, which is the most civilized area of the game world.

In FO3, I fight enemies every 2-5 min if a don't avoid the any of them.

It didn't really make sense for enemies to spawn every 30 meters in FO3 and just made them feel too out of place for me.

I can't really see where new vegas fails in the "not having enough enemies" department, I'm constantly worried i'll be jumped by a Deathclaw/Cazadore/Giant Rad Scorpion. I never feel like I don't have enough things to fight...

This is my opinion too. Now that I'm 25 hours into New Vegas I can never play Fallout 3 again. Nearly everything about FO:NV (stuff that matters) trumps Fallout 3 in every way. The story, the characters, most of the factions....much better than Fallout 3.

Oh, and the Super Mutants look how they're supposed to look. And act. Not like the [censored] (as in, actually [censored]) mutants they were in FO3.

EDIT: I meant another word for stupid.

Yeah they were like orcs. Super Mutants were supposed to be genetically superior super humans, not mindless brutes. Granted that it made sense that some super mutants were mindless brutes, but definitely not ALL of them!
