New Vegas Nexus launched

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:45 pm

Heads up to folks on this one. Here's the blurb (edited for content):

It is with great pleasure that I announce the launch of the 4th Nexus site on the internet; http://www.newvegasnexus.com. NVNexus will be covering the files for Fallout: New Vegas that is being developed by Obsidian and published by Bethesda.

New Vegas is due to launch on Steam and through video game retailers on the 19th of October 2010 in the US and select other countries and the 22nd in the UK and other countries.

As the game isn't due for release for a couple more days things are going to be a little sparse around the site. Don't forget we'll also need to give the talented modding community some time to actually play the game as well as to get to grips with whatever new features the G.E.C.K. for New Vegas possesses. Hopefully we'll start seeing some early tweaks soon after release but lets give it some time, yeah?

Modders please remember to only setup a visible file page if you have something to upload to it. No placeholders or Work-In-Progress files of what you plan to add to the game. Lets keep it nice and clean. It's good to see the few file entries already added have been set to "hidden" as we await the release of the game.

The site has been launched early to simply put a hand up and say "hey, yep, we're ready and waiting!". Remember your account works across all the Nexus sites so you don't need to register a new account to log in to New Vegas Nexus.

Oh, and look out for a modding competition to be announced soon regarding the celebration of the 2.5 millionth member to register on the Nexus sites. We're a week or two off our 2 millionth member now as it is. Prizes galore, I promise.

Well, unless you are on PC it doesn't really matter. Nexus is a modding site, and it is the most well-known of them. In fact, was there any other FO3 modding site that was adequate?

Popularity. Nexus has always been the biggest.

Aha. Ahaha. Ahahahahaha. Someone isn't familiar with the PC Fallout community I see. Come on in Duskey, the water is fine! :lmao:

You'll be able to use the existing mods for those right away with New Vegas. You will just need to give modders time to adapt the new clothing and armors available in New Vegas to those body models if you want everything to look nice.

There are others, but the Nexus is definitely the easiest one to use due to their tracking and search. I'm glad they made a seperate NV nexus though, instead of putting mods into the Fallout3nexus (as there was talk of doing at one point).

Bring on the GECK (about all I will be able to do on the 19th doh)

I've been waiting for this to launch! I am in eager anticipation of the re-making of many popular mods that were not made into standard features of NV (Congrats to the makers of those mods that were)! Many thanks to the Nexus staff for all their hard work. :celebration:

Both depend entirely on the mod in question.

They should release the geck early so modders can convert some of the essential mods.

Well, before our whole week is consumed with playing. Who here has the mental discipline to mod while first play through?? Unless something really annoying and minor pops up during play....

Any guesses on what the first mod will be?

double or nothing

I'm going to see if Crucifying People (Yes pretty screwed up but its CL) is a possibility in a mod, I'm more familiar with TES's CS then Fallout's GECK, tho i see they are almost identical...if so ill take it head on myself. plus id need animations and scripts :)

Yah, for those that have no idea or clue the Nexus is IMHO the best site hands down
for mods for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and soon New Vegas.
Of course for PC versions of the above.

The best bet, if your going to mod your game, is to keep track of the Nexus as the game is released
and keep track of mods as they are announced. Flag the good ones (only known by trial and error and perhaps
comments on said mod) and install later at your risk. Some mods are great , some garbage, some have hidden problems.

As time goes on it can be difficult to sort out the gems from the turds at Nexus. The only way to know what may be worth trying
is to follow the situation there as time goes on.
If ya let a few months go by without keeping up it's easy to get lost there.

Most of what I used in Fallout 3 was of the texture replacement sort but gameplay mods come into action too and can fix things that
need fixing.

My advice if your a mod nub is to only use gameplay mods on a new game char you create and be cautious adding mods of the drastic
sort to an existing char set of save games. Simple texture re-placers are the safest, usually.

converse is also true, if you remove a 'drastic' class gameplay mod it can hose a characters savegames thereafter with errors building up
that can eventually cause too many crashes.

Just depends on the mod though really, so caveat emptor.
That said, playing vanilla Fallout 3 just doesn't cut it with me, mods saved it IMHO.

Seeing what I"ve seen so far of Fallout New Vegas on some online video game play streams it appears NV will need a lot of texture
modding to make it tolerable to me. Most of the common textures it appears they copied direct from Fallout 3, common garbage texures
like cigarette boxes, cartons, bottles, etc. Yah, it may seem silly to most but for me, got to change those to something less garbage like.
